But as the Michigan search approaches its third week, that confidence is not universal. The search could continue with college coaches. Missouri’s Gary Pinkel and Cincinnati’s Brian Kelly are possible candidates. The Wolverines’ defensive coordinator, Ron English, has been interviewed for the vacancies at Michigan and Arkansas. Michigan may also look at N.F.L. coaches, including the Oakland Raiders’ Lane Kiffin and the Cincinnati Bengals’ Marvin Lewis.

But right now, Michigan’s search appears no closer to completion than it did when Carr retired.

Hey Marvin...this might be more at your level. Get some good experience, and then give the pro's a shot again.

NOOOOO!!

With the Brown approach, this would mean that Chuck Brensahan would be our next head coach!

To tell you the truth, I think Marvin would be a very good college football coach. I would still like to see him given at least another year. The thought of Chucky being the next head coach would make me give up on the Bengals completely. I'm serious...

WHODEY !!!

Elite college football programs and the NFL are apples and oranges. Just because someone is a good (or bad) coach at one does not mean that he'll be good (or bad) at the other.

You have to deal with completely different environments and both have their positives and negatives.

Depending on what ML's achiles heel is...you could argue that he would do much worse at UM than in Cincy. I think, for example, that he would be under much more of a microscope at UM than in Cincy...on the other hand...he would have much more control over his players...

The Paul Alexander option just made me shiver.

New York Times can say all it wants about the UM job, but I don't think they know much about college football. Other than the fact that most of their staff hates it.

Possibly Marvin's agent leaked this fantasy to either take a potshot at an extension, or to get his name out there as an available candidate for other hc jobs?
