HairOnFire
What the he!! sense does that make? If you are in an illegal formation you will get a flag whether you throw a bomb or take a knee. Same with illegal motion. It's not my rant so I can't defend it in depth due to not hearing the explanation that was said to have originated with Bengal coaches. I'm just passing along a response that was given during the preseason when I made the very same complaint. I can accept that possibly the OL may not be ready to properly protect Carson, but I believe that play has worked about 50% of the time. It's not worth it. I'd guess it's produced a quick and easy five yard gain by penalty more than 90% of the time.
COB
The penalty comes when a run is called and you heave the ball. Your drive blocking linemen are all illegal receivers downfield.

JohnsonX5
The penalty comes when a run is called and you heave the ball. Your drive blocking linemen are all illegal receivers downfield. Then don't heave the ball, just run the play, hand it off and see if you like the result better than the penalty yardage. I can accept that possibly the OL may not be ready to properly protect CarsonThat's my best guess as well. Maybe there's too much of an injury risk because, except for the center, nobody else is ready to block yet.
membengal
Amazing that the rest of football still runs the plays. I guess after 80 years of the sport, the Bengals' geniuses at coach think they've uncovered a better way...Someone let me know when other teams start copying this play. I guess after 80 years of the sport, the Bengals' geniuses at coach think they've uncovered a better way...Someone let me know when other teams start copying this play. The #1 reason to hate that play:1-10-CIN33 (:55) C.Palmer pass incomplete short right to T.Houshmandzadeh. 2-10-CIN33 (:50) C.Palmer pass deep middle to C.Henry to PIT 20 for 47 yards (B.McFadden). 1-10-PIT20 (:23) C.Palmer spiked the ball to stop the clock. 2-10-PIT20 (:22) PENALTY on CIN, Delay of Game, 5 yards, enforced at PIT 20 - No Play. 2-10-PIT20 (:22) C.Palmer kneels to PIT 21 for -1 yards. 3-11-PIT21 (:13) C.Palmer spiked the ball to stop the clock. 4-11-PIT21 (:12) S.Graham 39 yard field goal is No Good, Wide Right, Center-B.St. Louis, Holder-K.Larson. 5 yards closer and that field goal is good, which puts the Bengals in the playoffs. After the bomb to Henry, the offense looked more like Keystone Cops than anything else. That was one pathetic effort with the season on the line. ArmyBengal
I can't with that explanation Jet. Nothing personal, but there is no way in hell Graham should be missing a 39 yarder with the game on the line. They don't call him Shayne-o-matic for nothing, but everyone has an off day. i just can't blame the one kneel down as the cause of that particular miss...WHODEY !!!! That series just epitomized the entire season. Instead of putting the nail in the coffin, they take a delay of game penalty and do the kneel down, which essentially cost them two plays, because they had to turn around and spike the ball. I was just trying to explain why I hated that play so much. Bad memories man.!

I hope to see him wearing stripes for many years to come. That's right...he's wearing a Pro Bowl uniform for a reason.
