First off, Shlegel is an ex-buckeye, and Mike Brown has a hard on for ex-buckeyes. Secondly, Shlegel is a leader and very smart. Before playing for Ohio State, he was at the Air Force Academy where he was a captain on the football team as a FRESHMAN. Boy how nice would it be to have that Ohio State linebacking class right now of AJ Hawk, Bobby Carpenter, and Shlegel?

:o

DAMN RIGHT

Just to give you an update on Schlegal, he was picked by my Jets in the 3rd round just last year. The sttory goes that when the Jets were scouting AJ Hawk for that 4th pick, they really liked what they saw in Schlegal. Bryan Cox (LB coach) particulalry liked him. I believe he is 26 or 27. Fans disliked the pick (mainly b/c the "experts tagged him more as a 5th rounder) but by the mini camp press stories, he became a fan favorite for his apparent hard nosed attitude and anectdotes such as the fact that he goes Wild Board hunting with just a knife. In pre season last year he looked absolutely lost and he didn't even dress until week 11 where he made a critical special teams mistake. He dressed off and on the rest of the year. This camp, he was very quiet and I din't hear his name until the last game. IMO, I think he should have gotten one more chance given his draft position but ultimately at that level, it becomes an issue of how good they are on special teams.

Here is a link to Clayton's take on our acquisitions...

... The big winner of the day might have been the Bengals. They lost out on a waiver claim on fourth-round choice Antonio Pittman, a Saints running back who was released. He went to the Rams, who had a priority position in the claiming system because of their record in a tiebreaker. Both teams finished 8-8 last year.

Instead, the Bengals received undrafted Harvard halfback Clifton Dawson from the Colts. The Bengals needed a backup runner because of injuries to backups Kenny Irons and Chris Perry. The Bengals added depth on defense. They claimed cornerback David Jones, a fifth-round choice of the Saints, and linebacker Anthony Schlegel from the Jets.

Schegel might be the best choice. He comes to a depleted Bengals linebacking corps.

Uh-oh. Guess we better keep things civilized around here...:o

This board looks pretty wild. (How do you differentiate them from domesticated boards anyway?) I'm just wondering what you do with it after you stab it?

You can have it mounted and hang it on the wall, but wouldn't it just look like the rest of the wall?

Whoever that was that said Kenny Irons was drafted so that we can finally cut Chris Perry... Looks like I was right, it was Quincy that Irons was drafted to replace... It's about time they started moving some people in and out. Keiwan should be next right?

I'm pretty sure Irons would or will replace Perry, and that they might've put Perry on IR if Irons were healthy.

You don't use a 2nd round pick on a #4 RB.

Then again, this team is starting Stacey Andrews and Andrew Whitworth over a Pro Bowl alternate LT with a $40 million contract, so, who the hell knows.

A couple weeks back, can't remember the thread, someone was dissing C Perry and said "The drafting of Irons obviously meant something, most likely that Perry will be cut"... I said "Or maybe, it's because Watson or Wilson will be cut (Wilson was a bum!)"... So there you have it, I was right, you were wrong, like always, lol.

If they were so high on Perry making it back some time this year, or even in the future, they wouldn't have drafted Irons in the 2nd round.

Or maybe they were thinking it's about time to cut either Watson or Wilson??

**edit** Better quote this time.

I'd much rather take Rudi, Perry, Irons, Watson than Rudi, Irons, Watson, Wilson.

Ridiculous.

The whole chain of events is skewed because of the season-ending injury to Irons. Your conclusion is ludicrous.

Dude your backwards as hell. Do you really think Quincy stinking Wilson had a shot here after we picked up Irons. Perry isn't going anywhere dude, get over it.

Perry and Irons in a couple of years will be a great 1-2 punch.

I'll just repeat what I said about Perry last week...unfortunately I was wrong about him not getting PUP'd, but I remain unconvinced he was part of their future plans until Irons got hurt.

My prediction is that he is not PUP'd and sees his first action in week 3 versus Seattle. Maybe week 2 vs. the Clowns but there ought not to be a need to push things against Cleveland.

Mr. Glass is shaping up to be one of the more interesting personnel subplots of the 2007 season. I have little doubt that he was a goner, perhaps as early as October. If nothing else, the drafting of Irons shows the Bengals were prepared to move on. In fact, I can find no better reason for his sudden acquisition of a work ethic than the prospect of being traded or released -- if not at some point this year, then in 2008. Certainly, if he'd gone on PUP, and Rudi, Irons and Watson had all been healthy when he came off the list, the Bengals weren't going to cut any of them to create a spot for a perpetually injured back. And if he was actually healthy (as it seems likely he would have been given recent reports) he would surely object to IR.

So basically he had one dislocated ankle out the door already. Then Irons blew out his knee and everything changed. If Perry can get healthy and have, say, a 14-game season like he had in 2005 as a No. 2 back -- about 600 combined rushing and receiving yards, a 4.6 yard rushing average, a couple TDs -- that's going to throw a wrench (in a good way) into the whole RB spot.

Perry score a TD? That is the funniest thing I have read in quite a LONG TIME. He has been in the league how long and still hasn't scored a TD? But hey! He is going to be a superstar.

I guess his 2 in 2005 don't count?

LMAO, LMAO....uh, duh?

CP has 2 TD's

Tab has 1.

Albeit, they happened in 2005 but you've got it wrong.

I wish CP could stay healthy as much as the next guy and I consider him a disappointment because of the recurring injuries but he is not without a TD.

Sorry I was thinking rushing TD's...both of his TD's have come via the pass. If a guy is to come into the league and be a superstar RB who is supposed to usurp Rudi as the every down back, he better be able to punch it in on the goal line via the run.

well, that is just a weak comeback...weak.

look, CP has been prone to everything, ab-sprains, foot-itis, hang-nalia, etc... I agree he should have produced more at this point (which I think is also your point) but let's see where he is when he comes off the PUP before we chop off his nads, should they still be attached to his crotch and not lying injured somewhere in the Bengals training facility. If he cannot get healthy and produce, then they need to seriously examine his contract/cap hit and consider getting whatever value they can for him, bolster the D and pray that Irons can get that knee ready for Spring mini-camp.

For anyone to make the assumption that Chris Perry is going to be anything more than what we have seen to this point is just being overly optimistic. Part of a great 1-2 with Irons ?? There's absolutely no reason to make that speculation out of anything other than hope, because you can't base it on anything else. That being said, I love Rudi !!! I'm very interested in what the new guy might bring to the table though...

WHODEY !!!

Just read that the Bengals gave a work out to Jordan Beck, Tim Massiquai, and former Buckeye Josh Huston.

All of three of these guys are good players who could make our roster better. Beck is a good athlete who could really be a find for this club. The former Michigan TE is a pass receiving threat that could make a good combo for the future with Coates.

All in all I think signing Beck would be a good move, let Eddie Hartwell take some time to get right, have him come back next year when he's 110% healthy.
