Wow, Quentin Moses was cut. That has to complete on of the fastest and most remarkable falls from grace of a once highly regarded college prospect in recent memory. Total free fall.

Maybe. Moses and two others cut by the Raiders got snapped up elsewhere, per PFT:

QUENTIN MOSES TO CARDINALS by Michael David Smith

You wouldn't think cast-offs from the worst team in the league would be hot commodities, but three players who were waived by the Raiders yesterday were quickly snatched up today, headlined by third-round pick Quentin Moses.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Moses, who as the first pick of the third round was the highest-drafted player to be released yesterday, has been claimed off waivers by the Arizona Cardinals. That gives the Cardinals another team's high third-round pick after they got rid of their own high third-round pick, linebacker Buster Davis.

Schefter also reports that guard Kevin Boothe, who started 14 games for the Raiders as a rookie last season but was waived yesterday, has been claimed by the Giants. And safety Eric Frampton, the Raiders' fifth-round pick out of Washington State, has been claimed by the Lions.

That players whom the Raiders jettisoned are having no trouble landing with other teams may indicate that coach Lane Kiffin is right to think the Raiders made some mistakes in trimming their roster yesterday.

That last bit refers to an earlier PFT piece:

LANE LIVID ABOUT ROSTER MOVES

A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that Raiders coach Lane Kiffin is fuming about the final round of roster cuts in Oakland. Though we don't know of any specific moves about which Kiffin is particularly upset, we're told that the bulk of the moves is evidence that owner Al Davis still has a significant amount of influence over the football operation.

Even when what Davis wants conflicts with the wishes of his head coach.

But what's Kiffin gonna do about it? He's a guy who was on no one's radar screen as an NFL head-coaching candidate at the end of the 2006 season, and his selection for the gig likely was influenced by the fact that he'd go along to get along.

Despite the perception that, because Kiffin took the job no one wanted, he must not be very good, we've heard from several media types who are impressed with the former USC assistant. In our view, the mere fact that he didn't shrug in response to moves dictated from above tell us that Lane is his own man.

It might get him fired from his current job, but it could help him land his next job.

BTW, I agree DeDe Dorsey is an interesting option due to his speed and prior knowledge of the Bengals offensive scheme. For whatever it might be worth, immediately after Kenny Irons was injured unreliable rumor source Lance McAllister claimed the Bengals were interested in the Panther's busted ex-2nd round pick Eric Shelton if Carolina cut him loose. They did.

Dorsey was injured vs the Bengals in the last preseason game and was an Injury waiver. He goes back to the IR list for the Colts. I doubt he was cut due to being beaten out by one of the others...

Well I'd go with the reason they didn't resign Dede was because they cut him last time, so why would they the following year cut quincy to keep dede?but like Hooiser said Jim Anderson is the one position coach we can rely on doing the right thing.

My memory is a little fuzzy but I'm pretty sure one of the reasons given for keeping Quincy Wilson over Dorsey was Wilson's superiority as a pass blocker.

It's probably no coincidence that both players, Moses and Davis, were the two players who struggled most during the entire week of practice at Mobile. Moses was said to have been exposed as being too weak to play DE and too inexperienced to play a true LB spot. And Buster Davis looked remarkably short-winded, stiff, and inexperienced in drills run by Mike Singletary.

In something of a surprise, Kwash continues to survive in New England even as the Pats trim down their bloated WR corps. Getting a pink slip today: Reche Caldwell. Given the Bengals' struggles with finding a receiver not named Chad or TJ who can catch a freakin' pass, I would definitely be interested in him. He led the Pats with 61 receptions last season, posting over 700 yards and 4 TDs. And hes 28, so I think he avoids both "old" and "washed up." He also has lots of ST experience, including as both a kickoff and punt return man. I have always been a Holt fan but Caldwell would be a huge upgrade IMHO.

At least we'd never have to worry about him not looking the ball in.

Refresh my memory. Didn't something goofy happen with him in the Bengals-Pats game last year. Dropped a pass or was involved in a controversial play? I am drawing a blank. "Late" hit by KK? maybe?
