ndukwe/Hype Hobson`s spinzone

from the dark and dizzying hole which is Hobson`s mind:

Ndukwe may end up being the closest thing to Fulcher since the 235-pound Pro Bowler reinvented the safety position in the late 1980s with linebacker size and DB range.

Say who?

first of all, there is a lot of difference between 235 and 218....

Chinny's just tall - thus his weight. If he were skinnier he'd be a stick.

I guess I'm missing something here in the Hobspin Zone - where is it shown/written that Chinny can cover NFL WR's or at least back-up a CB at this level? Didn't this team give up the most passing yards in the entire league last year? Don't safeties have to cover people the majority of the time? Why else do you have linebackers then? I didn't think it would be "that" hard to find tweener safeties in the draft. They're everywhere.

Comparing him to Fulcher is way overboard.

Chinny's done good - hope he gets better at some things - good late round pick - will leave it at that and not go into Fulrock territory based on a training camp and a couple of preseason games geesh. He's obviously a good run support guy who's willing to give it up on ST's to hold a roster spot - kudos to him.

Just another trip into the Hobspin Zone (cue Rod Sterling music)

There has to be some concern though in that article. Why is our rookie free safety lining up at linebacker in our Nickel Coverage??

Don't we have 2 linebackers on this squad that play the deep 3 and cover the flat in our nickel coverages..???

If teams see this happening during the regular season, expect us to get beat on a lot of 3rd and long draws. You don't want Safeties having to take on guards and centers !!

As a matter of fact who are our Nickel Linebackers???

1. I'll give you Landon Johnson,

...

Someone come up with the 2nd ???

Brian Simmons and O'Dell Thurman could come in real nice right about now !!

I subscribe to the theory, after seeing last year's defense, that "anything different is good" (borrowed from Bill Murray near the end of "Groundhog Day"). Of course, comparing any rookie to Full-rock is premature - but didn't he weigh in at around 220 lbs his rookie year?

I LOVED the way the opposing receivers got a severe case of "alligator arms" with Fulcher playing center field !!! :P

I want to know why ndukwe was playing while dexter jackson got injured. I know that the bengals think he had a great camp and everything but he is still the same player he was playing for the golden domers.....he cant cover and he displayed it on that broken coverage on the long pass by harrington that was a touchdown, then he couldnt tackle norwood on a swing pass and that went for a touchdown......PLEASE PUT MARVIN WHITE IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ndukwe will be no better than a special teams player

I'm sorry, but I simply can't read this hacks overly optimistic articles anymore without desperately fighting my gag reflex. He honestly puts way too much sugar in the coolaide he's pouring to protect his job at their offical website. Looking through his rose colored glasses of journalism, you'd think the Bengals problems were miniscule. IMHO they're not. Peril still looms, and he (as many other folks throughout Bengaldom) chooses to ignore it. I do not. Granted, they are not all on the defense, but that's where the biggest and most glaring problems lie. For him to start comparing Ndukwe (I prefer HairOnFire's "Duke Nukem") to the great David Fulcher is the most homeristic sin an alleged professional Cincinnati sports writer can make. C'mon dude. At least let the guy prove himself in the league as a starter for a season or to before you make outlandish claims like that. I suggest that it's renamed "Hobsons Hype-Zone". :furious:

Pfft I don't ignore it I just keep a open mind till we actually play a real game,If we start out 0-3 I'll start running around like a chicken with my head cut off like everyone else has been...But aslong as carson is healthy and hopefully willie or levi will be rdy.I just beleive offense can carry this team like the colts offense has always done for them till came to superbowl time :P

You said it right there Kaz...they never would have gotten there had not the Colts defense had not stepped up, played solid defense, and therefore balancing out the team. Hoping that your teams offense is going to be able to perform at it's highest level week after week without fail to make up for a marginal defense is nothing but a recipe for wasted hope IMHO. I believe to have CONSISTENT success in the NFL these days it takes a total team effort.

I agree totally about Hobson`s Hype-zone. I am seriously considering stealing the man`s job. He is a complete hack. Who can read it with an open-mind given the dribble he reports so often?

Back to the thread, if Ndukwe isn`t the next David Fulcher, could he be the next.... er.... Marvin White?

He seems to be getting a lot more playing time than White.

Ndukwe was out of position the WHOLE GAME! The guy plays fast and has hustle but the information from college has transferred to the Pro's he doesnt have the nose/knack for keeping himself in the correct position.

Some would say this is a learned trait that will come, but i tend to think that a lot of football intelligence should be able to be picked up over training camp.

Our secondary looked pathetic, hopefully it was just due to Dexter Jacksons injury but i find that hard to believe.

I think they have made him drink the s**t flavored Kool-Aid. He seemed better when he was raw and not "coached-up"...it looks like they ave gottent o him and turned him into a lesser player. Not saying he was going to the pro bowl, just that the more time he has spent with Coyle and Bres, the worse he has played.

Well if he's beating out your 4th rounder on depth chart he must be out playing 7th round....or was white injured?

oo white played he was they one the called PI penalty on. i think busing look head and shoulder better than both of them, he had a sack and did something none of our safety's have done so far cover a receiver and actually knock down a pass. and dukie was the one who gave up the td pass to jennings and whiffed on a open field tackle to give up norwood td the guy looks like what he is ps material.

Agreed. IMHO there may not be a harder position for a defender to learn in the NFL than either safety position, and both White and Duke are going to have more than a few growing pains. In fact, it's a very solid bet they're going to be routinely exploited by offenses whose gameplanning will be no more complicated than..."Where's the rookie safety?"

This is going to take time.

That said, the Bengals should have the time needed if Dexter Jackson and Madieu Williams remain healthy.

It would be a laugh to give Hobson's job to some of the posters on the board.

The entire game review article would be "f**k! f**kING f**k!!!!" and call for the sacking of everybody on the team

except maybe Carson and TJ.

Then in the In the Locker Room video we can watch Thorton or somebody beat up the interviewer.

Well if Thorton fights people as well as he's played his position since he's been a Bengal, it wouldn't be that severe of a beat down.
