ChadJohnson-85
Is it just me or did Marvin White look more of a first rounder then Leon Hall did? Seriously Marvin White was all over the field agains't the Lion's while Leon was TRYING to cover CJ (Calvin). If I was M. Lewis I would seriously consider starting Marvin White over Dexter this year IF he play's that way the rest of the pre-season. I know that was Leon's first game but you would think you would see a little better out of him. When we drafted Marvin White he said that we got THE BEST SAFETY IN THE NFL DRAFT. I know most rookie's will probably say stuff like that but he sure does look like the best rookie safety so far.

Honestly I think that play was a scheme breakdown just as much as it was blown coverage. If you look at the footage, you see 2 WR's on that side and only Ratliff and Ndukwe. If the Bengals are going to scheme all year that it makes a Safety cover WR's, they are going to give up some big plays more often than not. A guy is a safety and not a CB for a reason. That's just my 2 cents. BTW Ndukwe was also all over the field on Special teams. barring injury, this guy is a lock to make the team. Question is, who is going to get the pink slip? Variety
Marvin White was the best safety in the draft, Toeina was the best DT, Leon Hall the best CB etc. White looked solid, he didn't stand out. He had a nice hit on special teams but on defense he wasn't doing anything special at all. Ndukwe to me looks like he's got way more upside. I love how physical he is and he is an extremely smart tackler as well (watch that Duckett tackle). His closing speed is amazing. As for the big play we gave up i'm pretty sure it was Ratliff's fault. When he went to the sideline the coaches starting yelling at him. Also when you watch that play Ndukwe stepped in front of Calvin Johnson when Detroit's QB threw the pass while Ratliff wasn't covering anyone. And where was Marvin White? Nowhere to be seen.Whatever, stuff like that happens when you have 2 rookie safeties and 2 backup cornerbacks out there.

ShulaSteakhouse
I think you'd have quite a different impression of Marvin White if he were put out there against 1st teamers for a prolonged period of time. I like the guy too and think he has a ton of potential, but he was a 4th round pick for a reason.

They don't get drafted as high as other positions.

J24
Marvin White might be this year version of Dawan Landry and for people that are saying Duke played better then White what are you smoking White had the most tackels out of anybody on the Team and also had an INT. J24
marvin white having 7 tackles and a pick on some backup lions isnt enough to start him over dexterI agree with that statement but at some point in the season Dextar is going to get for some sort of time and White will have to play during that stretch. When was the last time Ed Reed had over 100 tackles? Landry had more tackles than Reed last season, does that mean he's the best safety in the NFL? Things that make you go hhmmmmm. And his interception looked more like a fumble recovery. The receiver already caught the ball, then Ndukwe (once again) showed up to hit the guy and that's when the ball popped out / that's when the receiver lost possession of the ball.Besides White's tackle numbers are worthless. You make it sound like the guy was around the line of scrimmage a lot or making key stops on 3rd and inches. White gave up a lot of catches and after 20-30 yards gains he finally showed up to tackle the receiver. That's nothing to be proud of.Ndukwe however was around the line of scrimmage, making key stops, even at the goalline. He was responsible for that "interception" and he should've returned the fumble for a TD (100+ yds) as well.

I want my linebackers as my leading tacklers, not my safeties!
kingwilly
I think White and Ndukwe played above my expectation. Despite the blown coverage on the long pass TD, they were very active and looked good. How they progress will be interesting.Madieu and DJax are the starters until someone beats them out of a spot (or they are injured)
walshfan
I just love how after one preseason game you're asking to start a late round rookie word...I saw shades of KK on that missed tackle by White.word is he has to be told over and over before it sinks in.Chinny on the other hand, grasps things quickly..Give White some time to excell or bust .. who knows at this poiint..One game...lol
Variety
"Slipping: The three rookie defensive backs - Leon Hall, Marvin White and Chinedum Ndukwe - were on the field when Detroit completed an 83-yard touchdown pass in the preseason opener. They all went after a fellow rookie, Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson, the No. 2 overall pick, on the play. Fourth-year cornerback Keiwan Ratliff appeared to catch most of the coaches' wrath on the sideline, but the major offender was White. Rookie corners and safeties will make mistakes."http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...SPT02/308120005So Ndukwe did what he was supposed to do. TJJackson
He made his share of mistakes....he also picked off a pass. Many of the tackles were indeed downfield, but at least he made them. Tackles are definitely better late than never. One more tackle downfield against Santonio Holmes last year, and we *might* (yeah....I'm stretching) have gone to the playoffs :-)Overall, a pretty good first professional game for a 4th round rookie, I'd say. Better than I expected.
