Spor_tees
Out of all the NFL players out there, why would someone take the time to make up something about Odell Thurman?Gee I don't know ...Maybe some numb-nuts who is desperate for any traffic he can get on his s**tty little blog ?This story is bulls**t ...Dude the only people that are even looking at that guys blog are Bengal fans and people from where he lives. But when PFT brought it up, that brought more traffic to the blog, even though they tried to distance their selves from it.
DesperateDerelict
For one, that PFT article is pretty funny because it enabled them to print the info about Odell but did so without putting their own necks out on the line.Agreed! That is why I think this story probably will turn out to be true.Yea . . . but which part is true? Is it actionable? Was there a crime? Was Odell responsible? Is someone trying to make a buck? Will the cops touch it with a 10 foot pole? With the current NFL climate, any hint of impropiety has to concern an NFL Player, and scare the sh$t out of anybody with past troubles. Good-all, for all of his noble intentions, has fostered an environment of fear and loathing that rivals the Spanish Inquisition - "You're guilty 'cause I say you're guilty".If I'm a young idiot at a party that just got my clock cleaned, and Odell was just driving by outside, I would be tempted to mention him predominantly in my report to my friends . . . but would have a real problem filing a police report. (Of course, Odell would make every effort to keep the fact that he was even in attendance as quiet as possible.) However, since it was reported that 'hush money' had already been offered, then PEOPLE WOULD BELIEVE THAT ODELL HAD BEEN INVOLVED REGARDLESS OF THE TRUTH. And, since Good-all is cleaning up an image, which is the result of people's perceptions, this could actually end his career no matter what had transpired this past weekend. To quote Hannibal Smith - Don't you love it when a plan comes together? Kazkal
:unsure:So no info on subject besides from this blog still eh?PFT mentions the blog but you think if there was more to it they'd be all over it...this is what they live for if it's true. HairOnFire
Sorry, the Chris Henry drug test story is just too fresh...so I'm not going to say anything until there's confirmation of the story. I mean c'mon, the whole idea of PFT quoting With Leather is almost laughable. That said, you've got to love a website whose mission statement says everything needed about credibility. "With Leather is a blog about all the a**h***s and idiots in the world of sports, and the hot chicks who date them. People who get offended or take too much pride in their favorite team should probably just leave now, because I hate you already."
membengal
Guys, I help run a "rival" blog to withleather, and, I promise you, withleather does rather stout numbers. They were born from Deadspin, and Deadspin helped them get going. They're not a fly-by-night place, I assure you. They got e-mailed this stuff because they are known by a goodly number of people.Just sayin'...That said, I didn't link to the withleather story at my little corner of the internet (where we do pretty damn decent numbers as well, as I didn't want to add to the "noise"). But, I did want to discuss it amongst "friends", so to speak, here in Bengals-land. Sorry for any that are offended by that attempted discussion. My bad. I won't make that mistake again... Sorry for any that are offended by that attempted discussion. My bad. I won't make that mistake again...It's okay, mem - if it wasn't you, then it would have been Captain Kirk, rippin' them a new one, or Hair on Fire, rippin' them a new one, or Kazkal . . . . It's just that so many bloggers cite half-truths to support their assertions. Politicians, TV evangelists, Radio talking heads, and Paul Daugherty are the worst offenders one used to worry about, but bloggers have far surpassed them in spinning hypothesis out of hyperbole.(Present company excepted)
HairOnFire
Well, I've got no problem whatsoever with you passing along the rumor....since you identified it as just that, gave the source, and provided a link. Under the same circumstances I would have done exactly the same if I had stumbled upon the rumor, source be damned. It could even turn out to be legit. But again, after the Chris Henry fiasco I'm not losing my head simply because something appears in print....especially when the website in question doesn't even pay lip service to the idea that they're a serious source of news. WhoDeyForever
This can't be true. What an idiot Odell would be if this is infact true. I really hope it isn't. He is such a playmaker when he is on the field and would help us out greatly this year and for many years to come.

Stripes
I see no reason to rip Mem for this thread, but it seems that has already been resolved for the most part. I don't care for rumor sites, especially for insignificant blogs like WithLeather. I highly doubt they'd just pull this story out of their asses though, so I'll wait for a more reliable news source to supply the entire story.I'll reserve judgement on Odell's actions until then. bengalsfansince68
Though it could be percieved that way, my intention was not to rip Mem, however....The split second that I read that Odell was in trouble again, my heart sank to my knees. Then the substantiation that I get is this trash rag blog and their annonymous source.Perhaps I am too emotional about my team. agreen_112
A fight at a party is not a big deal, he shouldn't be there, but it's not breaking any rules/laws. Kicking the guy in the face... Hearing this just makes me want to see Odell on the field 100 x's more than before. I'm sure, if true, Odell's side to the story needs to be heard. And unless Odell actually had a gun in his possession and someone has a picture of it, I'm not worried about that one bit... Your damn right I'm coming back with a weapon if someone pulled one on me! DesperateDerelict
I see no reason to rip Mem for this threadWait a cotton-pickin' minute. I realize I am way older, out-of-touch, and a crappy typist to boot (which is why I always seem to respond to hour-old posts => I'm still typing . . . lost part of a finger to the VC) but I thought this forum and all blogging had certain rules:1) Always shoot the messenger2) If you have something nice to say, keep it to yourself.3) Historical facts are less valid than current innuendo, which is less important than one's opinion.4) Anybody who types in complete sentences, uses grammar and punctuation well, and uses words normally found in spelling bees is probably an English teacher, and totally unreliable.5) Revisionist history is encouraged.6) Anything expressed in a non-humorous way is fact.7) If you start the topic, it's your fault. 8) If you quote an internet site, you must include the link, and 50% of the people will think you are somehow responsible for the information. WTF< I learned many of these from Spain himself! Obviously, numbers 1,4,6, and 7 apply to Mem#1. Perhaps, to quote Jack Sparrow, these are more guidelines than rules?Note to Mem: I do not subscribe to number 7.

Your damn right I'm coming back with a weapon if someone pulled one on me!I'm pretty sure you're not all that familiar with the law. Assaulting a guy at a party, and returning with guns, is abso-freaking-lutely against the law. That's not to say that the rumor is true, or whether it can be proven in court, but the allegations as they stand would definitely be against the law. ShulaSteakhouse
Someone would have to press charges for assault. That picture on that web site looked like a 3D graphic model to me though, in other words, doctored/fake.So who knows. IF Odell was even at that party with a gun - that's enough for me to not have any faith in his ability to grow up and become a reliable player regardless. He's still hanging out with the wrong people if this is at all true.

DesperateDerelict
Hey, did you guys hear that Chris Henry failed his drug test? errr uhhh wait, nevermind...... Yea, but that rumor was started by an attorney in Kentucky . . . I'm sure any website with the word 'Leather' in the URL would prove to be much more reliable!!! Stripes
Someone on another board claimed to have seen this story on channel 9 news in Cincy.**This was a MySpace message board. How the credibility of such a place compares with WithLeather is debateable.
