I like Soliai as an eventual replacement for Sam Adams and I like Antonio Johnson as a replacement for John Thornton... but I don't see the Bengals taking a DT here. I'd be fairly giddy if they did, but I'm guessing LB.

Based on today's draft, I think they are going to go hard after Ed Hartwell, but first of all... there are no guarantee's they'll land him, and secondly... it will only be a 1-year deal. I think the should take a LB early tomorrow, let the guy learn and get a year under his belt, and be ready to start in '08. That's why if I had to guess, I'd say they are targeting Siler or Everett with the 4th rounder.

I agree with you Derek except for Soliai...Peko is his replacement

Alright. Fine by me... but Sam Adams was at his best when he had another enormous guy next to him. I personally would have no problem with both Soliai and Peko on the field at the same time. It would certainly free up the DE's and LB's to make plays.

P.S. Anyone have any thoughts on the Safety from Troy - Brannon Condren? He's the only player listed on Gosselin's top 100 that I haven't heard any discussion about whatsoever.

Here's a few names:Linebackers Rufus Alexander, Zak DeOssie,Earl Everett, Tim Shaw , Rory Johnson, H.B. Blades. or Dallas Sartz. Safeties Josh Gattis, John Wendling, Michael Johnson, Eric Frampton, or Kevin Payne. TEs Scott Chandler, Ben Patrick, Joe Newton or Kevin Boss. How about CBs Tanard Jackson, David Irons or Kenny Scott. Or DEs Baraka Atkins and Brian Robison. My choice: KEVIN PAYNE

Paul Soliai or Kevin Payne.

Pitcock is gone...

Pong is happy. :lmao:

Kazkal is happier.

I'd also like Desmond Bishop.

Yupyup,Soliai would play NT and Peko would play UT where peko can play NT he's more balanced he can play the run and the pass...I'd much rather take Soliai as the future then just rotate in a smaller DT on 3rd downs.

Don't forget that the Bengals signed Michael Myers. So if the Bengals do draft a DT today that will mean someone on the roster will more than likely have to go. Last year the Bengals carried 5 DT's plus had Fanene who pivoted between DT/DE. So, if you have Sam Adams, John Thorton, Michael Myers, Peko, and Fanene still...more than likely with a newly drafted DT in the mix someone is going to be deactivated each week or someone will get cut. You know Sam Adams when healthy and in shape, Thorton, and Myers will not be deactivated any given week because of their experience and contract size, and Peko really started to come on towards the end of last year, so where does a rookie DT fit on this team?

So the question to everyone is this: Do you draft a DT to bring in just to sit deactivated each week, or do you cut Thorton, Peko, Adams, or Myers?

Honestly in my opinion, if the Bengals do take a DT in the 4th or 5th round, it will spell the end of John Thorton's career with the Bengals. Besides, the Bengals are going to need his cap space relief to sign Ed Hartwell or maybe some other FA cap casualty that may arise post draft/Preseasn.

How is this a problem? Myers very well could be gone if he doesn't show he's better then JT or Brob :P

I can't even beleive you listed peko :P,Yes you can cut him and if rookie had sit each week thatd be fine with me.I want a DT that we can Devolope in to a future starter with 4 DT's 30+ on the team we could use some youth at the postion.

Myers led the Broncos defensive line in tackles with 80 last year, plus he is a 10 year veteran that they gave a 2 year contract to. I'd bet the house he sticks with the team. BRob can't really be added into this discussion because he is a DE not DT, unless you are just talking about him in means of a possible cap casualty. Honestly I think BRob sticks with the team unless Eric Henderson or Frostee Rucker comes in during training camp and blows people away.

At DE you have Geathers (huge new contract), Justin Smith (Franchised), BRob, Fanene, Henderson, and Rucker. Also add into the mix Pollack if he ever comes back, plans to maybe come back as a DE. Take into account the Bengals only dress 4 DE's each week, so where do you go from there? If the Bengals draft a DE, who is going to be gone? If the Bengals dress 4 DE's each week who would a rookie take the place of between Geathers, Smith, Fanene, or BRob?

Honestly on defense the Bengals are in a huge bind at a lot of spots because they need to upgrade some players, but they have so many guys with only one contract year left, or unproven guys that didn't play enough last year to be evaluated.

The Bengals really need to spend probably 2 picks second day on LB's and maybe look to see if teams are maybe interested in giving up a second day pick on Miller still. Best case scenario would be the Bengals picking Everett, and then trading Miller (Restricted free agent contract) for a 4th or bundling a couple picks to move up and selecting Siler, Rory Johnson, or John Abbate. If you look at the LB position on the roster, the Bengals don't even have enough LB's to start the season when you take into account that Pollack might not be back yet, Odell might not be back, Brian Simmons and Marcus Wilkins are gone, and AJ Nicholson didn't take a snap last year. So you have Landon, Miller, Jeanty, and Brooks. OUCH! (I didn't take into account Andre Frazier because he is basically a Special teamer labeled as a LB.)

I think there is no doubt if any what needs to be addressed at this point, and the Bengals have 5 day 2 picks to do it with. So I would say day 2 will go LB, LB, OL, DB, QB. (Not necessarily in that order.)

I agree there. I've never disliked Thornton half as much as the majority here... but I do like his $3 mil in cap space savings if he were cut. I like Myers to fill his production at a cheaper price and with little to no drop-off (if not an increase).

A 4th round DT would have time to learn, under Adams, Myers, Peko, and B. Robinson... but also an opportunity to get snaps. I like the idea of another 4th round DT... but as I mentioned earlier, if Siler, Everett, maybe Alexander are there, they are probably the pick.

I don't see that the Bengals are in quite the bind you feel they are Spor. And I'm betting you could solve some of the problems you are worried about a little easier in free agency with that cap space that Thornton would free up. So if they do go LB in the 4th, I'd be plenty happy with them going DT in the 5th (assuming there is a guy worth grabbing at that spot).

I don't know if I'd have that many guys ahead of Everett... and Antonio Johnson should probably at least be on the list... but for the most part, I'd be okay with most of those players as 4th rounders.

Tanard Jackson, CB/S, Syracuse -- nope, off board due to character issues

Rufus Alexander, ILB, Oklahoma -- ditto

Paul Soliai, DT, Utah -- ditto

Reading the tea leaves, the bengals were apparently set to pick Durant or Woodley had they been there in the second. So it sounds to me like they are looking for LB help, which they ought to be, and may jump that way this round (Blades, Siler, Everett, Alexander, etc.). I'll put my token on Blades.

Blades runs like he has concrete shoes...there is no place in Marvin's defense for slow LB's. Marvin will take an undersized fast LB over a slow big LB any day. That's why he liked Durant so much.

Brandon Siler (4.67) fits that mold the best, but I still like Everett (4.88) because of his versatility and the defense he came from.
