Kazkal Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Giants | Arrington releasedMon, 12 Feb 2007 14:27:10 -0800Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports the New York Giants have released LB LaVar Arrington. Quote
CJBestInAFC Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 He would be an upgrade over everyone we currently have, but at what price? I think they could cut Simmons and sign Lavar to a similar contract to what Simmons is making. Why keep Simmons when he doesn't tackle very well and can't cover? I think the big question would be his torn achilles tendon. I don't know how long that takes to recover from, so if he is healthy I would be all for signing Arrington. Quote
MacD BengalFan Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 The Bengals don't need another player who takes excessive chances, over pursues and is rarely in position to make plays. They have enough of them on defense. Adding Arrington will only add to the headache the coach's already have. Quote
WhoDeyForever Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Surprising, would love to have him but he is injury prone...Rather just keep who we got and draft a linebacker Quote
CantStop85 Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Name your price, LaVar.I'm willing to take a chance. Quote
Spain Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 At the right price, we do have a big ? with wareboy. Also we can always cut him. Quote
agreen_112 Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Man we should jump all over Arrington! Him, Odell, and one of the others (Brooks, Nicholson, Pollack) would be huge. Quote
Kirkendall Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Why do we always seem to forget that this team will NOT pick up a big name free agent? Shesh. I say pass too. However, if they did sign him, I wouldn't be disappointed either. Quote

However, if they did sign him, I wouldn't be disappointed either.I would say that a "big name" is about all Lavar is at this point. He was already a question mark last time around with his rebuilt knee, now he's got an Achillies tear to go with it. Really, I think Lavar is, right now, exactly the kind of FA junk the Bengals all too commonly sign: bargain-basement bums cut by other teams due to age, injury and/or poor performance (Sam Adams, Bryan Robinson, Duane Clemons, Michael Westbrook, about half a dozen QBs, etc.).Pass. AMC Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Please perish any thought of signing Arrington....Next topic! Quote

Really, I think Lavar is, right now, exactly the kind of FA junk the Bengals all too commonly sign.... I agree with the above. I liked the idea of adding Arrington last year, but in my opinion the injury changes everything. It's a very difficult injury to come back from and unless Lavar comes back 100% it has the potential to negate the very things that made Arrington attractive in the first place. As for the mandatory rant about Arrington being the kind of junk FA the Bengals always sign...I'm reminded that Arrington is yet another example of a big name free agent blowing up on the team that won the bidding war for his services. IckeyShuffle Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Speaking from experience, achilles tendon repair has a 12 month rehab and its a debilitating injury, you never return to 100%, best case scenario is about 75% effecitiveness after a complete tear. Any speed he once had with his first step, will be gone. I'm 14 months past my achilles surgery and I still feel it everyday after 10 months of rehab, running and strength training. Arrington will never be what he was, I'll have to pass as well. If we're gonna dwell in fantasy land, let's get Freeney in here to put pressure on QB's. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Ill take him, he is an upgrade over what we have, plus I don't think he will come with a bigger price tag this time. Worth a look, I wont be mad if we pass though Quote
Spain Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Im begining to shill on the I dea. We need healthy dependable bodies. If we are staying with the 4-3 , he wouldnt even fit. Quote
WhoDeyForever Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 After looking at his injury, I think Lavar is done with his football career Quote
BengalByTheBay Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Looks high-risk and low-reward to me. The biggest problem with him in DC was discipline (on field) and I haven't seen anything that makes me think that has changed. With the injury I just don't see much upside. If anybody signs him, it would likely be a minimum and short contract -- I suppose that wouldn't be too bad, but I just don't see it happening. Quote

And Chris Perry. That Odell draft pick's working out well too.Yeah, FA is too much of a gamble compared to the draft.I would hardly call Arrington's signing a "bidding war" either, it was pretty typical for FA.Players don't just crawl up in your lap and beg you to sign them, unless they suck, which is the world Mike Brown lives in. BengalChamps Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 We do not want an old player with an achilles problem. He will NEVER be the same. Plus he is not a team player. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 According to the Giants he was a team player, and he is not old. He is 28, same age as Chad. Quote
