Chris Perry contract status

One of my coworkers bet me $50 that Chris Perry is a free-agent this year and I took it. He came back from lunch w/ a print up off of this website( http://www.theredzone.org/2007/freeagents/...p?Team=Bengals) that says he is a free-agent. I know he signed a 5 or 6 year deal but I don't know if there were special clauses that would make him a free-agent. If any of you guys know a reliable site that can provide me w/ a free-agent list that doesn't include Perry, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. A story w/ the details of his contract would help as well. I think the website screwed up and I need as much proof as possible.

Here is another link that list all the Free agent RB.

You could try bengals.com.

http://www.bengals.com/team/roster.html

Scroll down, they break out this years UFAs and RFAs in separate roster charts. C. Perry is still on the active roster, not on the RFA list. I suspect redzone is simply wrong.

Personally I like S. Smith, but Marvin deactivates him all the time; you barely saw him once Fear the Fanene got back. If they aren't going to play him may as well let him go.

Landon and Miller? Ehhhh...can't work much enthusiasm either way. I think they could be replaced without much trouble. That said, there's nothing wrong with them, and they are the kinds of backup/special teams/starter-in-a-pinch player that every team needs a dozen or so of. As long as they don't make any crazy demands I would bring them back.

Yeah, I'm not enthused with Landon anymore. Were his rookie numbers just a factor of playing MLB behind a terrible set of DTs?

Could be. The Bengals always seem vulnerable up the middle and anyone playing mike always seems to look studly: Simmons, Odell, Landon, even Miller last season.

The only reason I'd keep Landon around is because of his durability. That guy, as much as I don't like him, just will not break. I can't even count the number of times towards the end of the season that he was basically carried off the field and then back on after a few plays. Either he's tough as nails or he's acting like he's hurt to get a rest..

Landon mah dood. :P

With all the problems we had at linebacker this season, I'd think keeping our best backup should be a top priority. He can play all three spots relatively well, and agreen's right... He's a tough mofo.

I like Caleb for depth too, but I think he's the more expendable player of the two. Either way, similar players probably come a dime a dozen.

I would have agreed with you had Caleb not played so valiantly this season. I'll agree that Landon is the better LB when it comes to versatility... but let's face it. He's not a SSLB. We put him there because we had nothing else that fit there. Caleb didn't just fill in well at MLB. He was great. He might not be a long term starter... but he's the guy I want back. With how much trouble we've had at MLB in the last 3 or 4 years, having a back-up that can play that solid in the middle is a luxury we can't afford to lose.

Given how weak we were at LB last this season, I can't see the Bengals getting weaker by not returning Landon or Caleb. If they don't then the Bengals will need to sign at least 4 starter/capable backup LB's in the offseason. Good luck with that. Without those two, we have Jeanty, Simmons as starters. Scrum for MLB and backups. I say sign them both if possible.

the team is not exactly deep in quality backers.

Miller...decent backup MLB

Johnson...expendable imo...mediocre

Brooks....maybe break thru..maybe a dummy that cant play in a system

AJ...who knows

Simmons...smart but soft tackler for a backer

Jeanty....poor in coverage and does he ever blitz? thought that what he did best..???????

Frazier..expendable...

Thurman and Pollack... I dont even count them anymore

Id rate this crew a D+ and thats being very lenient..

simmons is a soft tackler for a backer? LOL. ill accept that cuz hes a SURE tackler.

Simmons missed five games this year and still finished 5th on the team in tackling (per Bengals.com). Now, if my math is correct, if you take his totals and expand that to a 16-game season, he'd finish with 88 (third on the team). Not great, but he's far from the "troubles" of our defense (i.e. lack of cover corners forcing seven guys to drop back 15 yards to cover three likely receivers).

yep, i dont see our linebackers as being the true problem, once simmons got back, our weakness at CB was magnified. Our linebacking core could use another player to upgrade our unit, but our secondary needs it alot worse.

Is Chris Perry the most over paid player on the tream or what? We have been lucky with Rudy not being hurt. I wish Perry was a FA. It's somehow ironic we let Justin Smith leave and a guy like Perry stays., but that's business.

The first time we really have to count on Perry heaven help us for he is made of glass. We need somebody to be a true number two and it ain't him.

Let's break down Chris Perry's cost per Yard/TD to the Bengals. Figures from NFL.com:

Rushing

Year ..........Team..........Yards...TDs

2004 Cincinnati Bengals....01.....0

2005 Cincinnati Bengals..279.....2

2006 Cincinnati Bengals....57.....0

SUBTOTAL......................337....2

Receiving

Year............Team..........Yards...TDs

2004 Cincinnati Bengals.....33....0

2005 Cincinnati Bengals....328...0

2006 Cincinnati Bengals.....42....0

SUBTOTAL.......................403...0

____________________________

TOTAL.............................740....2

Now we look strictly at his salary (I'm not sure any bonus money is included here) he's been paid so far from the previously posted figures:

2004......$325,000.00

2005......$355,000.00

2006......$511,000.00

TOTAL..$1,191,000.00

740 yards and 2 TDs comes out roughly to $1609.46 per yard, or $595,500 per TD!

Is Chris Perry the most over paid player on the tream or what?

I think the facts are obvious.

...and people say Mike Brown is tight fisted about his money!

Are you High? Unfortunately, injuries happen, but when healthy, where the hell would you be able to find a RB with his skills for $667,000 (2007 salary) ? Tell me where? If he were making millions, maybe you have an arguement, but c'mon, $667,000 ? Thats VERY CHEAP, considering RB's salaries.

You people need to Back off Perry, You choose to Slam a guy who(when he was healthy) did anything the team asked of him WITHOUT QUESTION, and never complained, Instead of Slamming the guys who ARE HEALTHY, yet dont want to do what the teams asks of them (Hello Odell)

Let me also say that You guys arent badmouthing Pollack (also a former 1st RD pick) Who was also plagued by injuries, unable to stay healthy in his 2 seasons. Yet most of you would welcome him back with open arms if he were able to return. Yet you want to cut Perry?

By the way.....Pollack 2005 salary(not including bonuses) $300,000...2006 $350,000....$650K for ONLY 4.5 sacks and ONLY 29 tackles

OR... $144,444.44 Per Sack....And $22,413.79 Per Tackle !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My point is that it is RIDICULOUS to breakdown dollars to stats because thats not how they are paid,

for example Tomlinson made $4.5 mill this year for 1815 yds or $2,479.33 per yd, while Larry Johnson made only $741,000 for 1789 yds or ONLY $414.19 per yd.....Thats not the way the NFL and contracts work, if you choose to "rip" Perry, THE VERY LEAST you could do is make an intelligent, valid point-------

--Which you did not !
