An outsiders view of the Bengals

First off, I am really sorry you guys lost yesterday. As a guy who has a Bengals fan in the family and who has been through those types of days before, I can feel for you.

First off, my advice is to igore the media. They tend to exaggerate things and make big deals about insignificant things. Now, I know you guys don't want to hear this but if you make 2 kicks, you are a 5 seed and if youdon't hosed on the worst call of the year, you are 11-5. W/ your schedule that is not too bad. Things are never aas bad as they seem and never as good as they seem.

There is such a fine line in football. IMO Luck is largely the difference b/w 8-8 and 11-5. The talent level in this legaue is generally pretty even. The media (again don't listen to them) likes to say teams w/ big play skill guys are the most talented but don't get fooled by that argument. The Bengals aren't SOOO much more talented; they have flaws just like all teams do. Unfortunately injuries and legal issues weakend the team. You think w/ Odell and Pollack your D wouldn't get better?

If you guys fill out some of the holes on D and Careson has a full year of healthy off-season work, you guys will rebound. Don't look too deeply into things. had Mike Nugent missed a zFG versus Miami last week, my Jets would be a cursed franchise and the sky would be falling (see Doug Brien in 04). Instead. Mangini is a God. We may very well be 6-10 next year b/c of some bad bounces. The Bengals will fine.

I don't think there's a "sky is falling" mentality - just a fan base that's seriously questioning the over-all ability of it's coach to deliver something more than a .500 season after 4 years and one playoff loss to show for it, and a 6-10 record in December...regardless of the excuses.

A QB is a #1 over-all pick for a reason. Palmer has the ability to go as far as he's able to with the proper support.

His #'s are right up there with the great QB's in the league now, and in the past. QB's, defense and coaches win in the NFL.

Basically, after 15 years of not even a single playoff game win, we want something more - we deserve it and giving someone 4 years to do it with a lot of high draft picks to boot, is not unreasonable.

Many other franchises would've fired Marvin yesterday. Mike Brown won't do it until people stop showing up to games again. Which is fine ultimately. Continuity in football year in and year out is important - see the Patriots, Steelers, Ravens and Colts for good examples of this.

But Marvin has to do a much better job next year of winning close games, games against teams that aren't as good as his - that is the ultimate judge of a coach's ability. He failed big time this season. Let's hope he figures out a way and makes the right changes next year.

You say that QB's, defense and coaches win in the NFL. That is true enough but as far as the QB part, for that to happen, the QB needs to be protected. So when you dig deeper, the QB needs a strong offensive line to be effective. IMO, our offensive line was very inconsistent in protecting Carson this season due to the injuries and a lack of depth. We have a lot of other areas that need shored up for next season but this is one that shouldn't be overlooked.
