HoTbOy
How I wish we could start this season over...but back in the pre-season we were some magazines and analyst pick to go to the SB...were our hopes to high think that our O would carry us or that our D was much improved...Or did all of the distractions in the off season and the injuries derail our SB train...as much as I would like to blame injuries, I have seen other teams win with backups, everyone knows what the Patriots have done with injuries, I think we underachieved, the D has not come to the party yet in MLewis's 4 years here...I don't believe the distractions had much to do with us not making the playoffs as much as our pass D did... HoosierCat
There's no doubt injuries and suspensions were murderous this year -- and in injuries I include Palmer, who clearly struggled early and never really looked like his '05 self all season. That is by far the No. 1 factor in the team's performance, and frankly IMHO it's somewhat amazing that they managed to get to .500 with everything that happened. That said, there are a lot of things you can't blame injuries for. Dropped passes and lack of effort by the wideouts. Boneheaded mistakes and penalties by veterans. Bad ball security by both Carson and Rudi this year. Special teams miscues like Shayne's missed FG today. Questionable coaching and game planning on the part of the HC and both coordinators at various points throughout the year.In short, I'd say that the injuries pretty much ensured that the 2006 Bengals were not a championship-caliber team. Despite that, they had the chance to be at least a playoff-caliber team, and have only their many screw ups to blame for not making the postseason. HoosierCat
Well all that and a really tuff bunch of games, man there was never a easy one all year... Also true. Bengals ended up tied for 6th-toughest sked in the league (with Cleveland). That didn't help. Even so, tho...so many missed opportunities. The team just choked away too many chances. Stripes
I'd say we underachieved and henceforth were also overrated. There were many reasons the Bengals struggled at times this season that will be fixed next season. Still, as Hoosier pointed out... Some things will need to improve dramatically. MiamiOH91604
overrated??? hell no. We underachieved.Just ask any other coach or GM in the league if they'd like to have Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson, or TJ (one of the best #2's in the league) and they'd almost all would say yes over their current starters.we blew it. ShulaSteakhouse
Yeah fairly unanimous underachievement...again.There's plenty of talent on this team to finish better than 8-8 every year. How many close games did they lose this year, that they could've win with just a little more discipline and execution of basics? I have lost a ton of faith in Marvin as a head coach. Maybe there was a reason he wasn't hired earlier in his career. He needs better people around him for one, if he's going to be here for a lot longer. Some of his assistants and his defensive coordinator in particular is an absolute joke of a coach.
jjakq27
With the exception of a couple of games, they were all winable even late in the fourth quarter.
Scottishbengal
At the end of the day the schedule is the schedule, injuries happen and you get away with some plays and don't with others. I don't think we are "overrated" I think we have potential that wasn't met. That potential could take us all the way but this year it didn't. I am p1ssed off, I am disappointed, but I'm already looking forward to next seasons Bengals! WHODEY!
