bengalboomer7
Saw this on PFT and it scared the living s**t outta me POSTED 12:20 p.m. EST; UPDATED 12:29 p.m. EST, December 20, 2006CARSON PALMER INJURED?A reader tipped us off on Tuesday to the possibility that Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer emerged from Monday night's loss to the Colts with an injury. Per the tipster, Palmer has a shoulder injury, possibly a torn rotator cuff. We've poked around a bit via our network of sources, and we've concluded that there's something to this one. It's our understanding that Palmer is undergoing tests on the shoulder today. It's the last thing the 8-6 Bengals need as they prepare to face the 8-6 Broncos on Sunday in Denver. The winner will be in great shape for a playoff spot; the loser will be battling with the likes of the Jaguars and the Steelers and the Jets and the Chiefs and the Titans and the Bills (the Bills?) for the six seed. HoosierCat
There was some mention by the MNF crew of it looking like he hurt his arm on that sack at the end of the half. But he seemed to be throwing fine in the second half. Cetainly, if he had a torn rotator cuff I can't see him being able to throw much at all. Stripes
Yeah, he was throwing normally in the second half, so I can't imagine was as bad as a torn rotator cuff. I hope not.

HoosierCat
Tis true he's dinged...from Hobson:Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer didn’t practice Wednesday with a shoulder injury, but he’s listed as probable for the Christmas Eve game in Denver and is expected to have a full practice Thursday.http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5793

HairOnFire
One of the things that was so frustrating about the Colt game wasn't just the sacks, but the way the rushers were able to completely break free of all blocking contact and go all out for a strip....usually resulting in some wild haymaker-styled karate chop on Palmer's throwing arm. The punishment Palmer has been subjected to this season has been been brutal.

HoosierCat
A little more info from Hobs...Palmer had his throwing shoulder checked after he got sacked on the last play of the first half Monday night in Indianapolis and he appeared to take another shot there in the second half when end Robert Mathis hit him just as he was throwing the ball.Jack Brennan, the club's director of public relations, said there is no structural damage. Trainers and coaches felt Palmer came out of the game sore, Brennan said, and that it was best to hold him out of practice for the day.Re: Shula, Hair -- Yup. delhole
Well this doesn't come as much of a suprise after the beating he took monday night. There was bound to be something wrong with him. Figures it would happen right when he's almost back at 100% too.........
Jet23
Whitworth has been blamed for the sack that caused the fumble on the first possession. Although he did have a rough night, on that play he did exactly what he was suppose to do. When a speed rusher takes that wide of a lane, you have to push him past the pocket. If not for Steinbach being blown up (again) Carson could have stayed in the pocket and he would have been fine.

Carson turned back exactly to where Whitworth pushed him (like he was supposed to, as you pointed out). Probably also, that play was one where the ball was supposed to be gone, and Carson decided to ad-lib a bit on the play with disastrous results. Although Whitworth still didn't stay with his man long enough on that play either. At one point Whitworth got the spin move and looked silly. But Palmer was sacked because of the guard/center breakdown ultimately, because he can't step up

BengalPimp
I really dont think its anything more than a sore shoulder. Keep in mind that the media has to give each report/story a little "juice" , to generate interest. Also, If Wright plays part/the whole game, it might not be as bad as you all think because Denver had a snow-blizzard today, so it seems as though it will be a snowy day come Sunday, which usually means more running/less passing. If his shoulder causes him to miss that game, and in fact it does snow/icy field, in addition to wright, I'd even like to see McNeal get some snaps in there at QB, just to run it.If his arm is still bothering him, I say there is no way in hell you play him, regardless if we need the win or not, because if its a cold/snowy day, think of what might happen if he were to take some shots to the shoulder. If the OL looses their footing on the slick field and gets beat on plays.Carson is about more than just this season's playoffs, He is the Future of our Franchise. My take on PFT is that they probably do get inside tips on things like this but they are not afraid to embelish (spelling?) the truth or make assumptions to make the story a bigger splash. That's all they ever seem to do is come out with "THIS JUST IN!!" type stories. It's all hype and designed to attract attention to them as a media source, not as a source for valid information. Freeney just about ripped his arm off. Have you ever held a football and went to throw it and someone graps you arm.... That s**t hurts like hell. Palmer was definitely feeling that for awhile. I gotta admit, he's a tough son of a bitch. No one should blame Whitworth, he's a rookie and that's whats going to happen from time to time. I think he's still going to be a stud. I also agree with another post that mentioned that it wasn't Whit's breakdown on that play but Steinbach's arse getting blown up - which forced Carson to scramble - and unfortunately, put him right in Freeney's crosshairs.
