Most likely KC will win Sunday at home. I'm not sure what there record is in December at home but it's something like 20-0 or very close to that. They are virtually unbeatable at home in December.

Yep, KC is 9-0 at home in December over the last 4 years (not including that Jan 1 beating they stuck on the Bengals last year!).

Interestingly, we are counting on that Denver win in a few weeks, and they are themselves 8-0 in December at home over the same timespan. Well, that is, of course, prior to last night's loss to Seattle.

Well the Bengals' can afford to lose a game if KC and Denver lose again next Sunday (very possible), and/or the Bengals' beat Denver, if the Bengals' win their other games of course.

I disagree. The Bengals have to win every game regardless what K.C., Denver, Jax and the Jets do to ensure they make the playoffs. One loss could end any hope of the Bengals landing a wildcard spot.

Not sure what you're disagreeing about then - I said they "could" afford to lose one game if Denver and KC lose next Sunday (a real possibility considering who they are playing). Not that they can afford to lose one regardless.

I'm trying to be realistic - expecting any NFL team to go 6-0 to finish a season, ecspecially road games against Indy and Denver, is a bit much to ask. Not that they can't do it - but I'm looking for the bright side here and how realistic the playoffs are at this point.

But yeah, it all comes down to the Bengals' taking care of their own business - if they win all 4 games, they are 100% positively in the playoffs with the 1st WC or possibly even a division championship if Baltimore goes into the crapper (not a far-off possibility either).

Should be, hopefully, a very exciting/interesting season finale coming up.

Yup. At least in the AFC. I can't recall a year when things were this competitive this late.

Just to recap: It's week 13 and not one team in the AFC has clinched a playoff spot, much less a division crown. Only 3 teams can clinch spots (their respective division titles) this coming week -- Indy, SD, and NE -- and NE needs help in the form of a Jets loss even if they win. Meanwhile, there are five (!) teams, all 7-5, in the WC scrum. And any one of them could still take a division title if they get hot and the current leader falters.

I can't remember a December in which there will be so many meaningful games between so many good teams. It's worth noting that the AFC has 9 teams with winning records, all of whom are involved in the aforementioned playoff hunt. Meanwhile, In the NFC you have 4 teams over .500 -- and that could drop to 3 if Carolina loses tonight.

The real crime, I think, is that the numbers dictate that some good teams are going to end up out in the cold, while some mediocre ones end up in the postseason. I would not be surprised to see more than one 10-6 squad in the AFC not getting in. Meanwhile, I would not be surprised if the two NFC wild cards are 8-8.

My bad I thought their home record was more than 9-0 in December.

They have won their last 17 home games in the month of December. However... that seems like a fairly meaningless stat... especially considering that the stat began under a different coaching staff, with mostly different players.

It actually reminds me of the movie Mr. Baseball from 1992:

Jack Eliot: I'm a World Series MVP!

Skip: That was four years ago, Jack. Last season, you hit .235.

Jack Eliot: LAST SEASON, I led this team in ninth-inning doubles in the month of August!

Even Marvin wants KC to beat Balti...

"This is the one we got dealt. It's what we earned. It'll be good. We get to play great football for the next four weeks. We've got to win four games. If we win four games, I think we'll have accomplished one of our first goals, and that's win the division. So we'll keep pressure on them. That's the thing we've got to do. We've got to win four games. Not worry about anything else. Just win one game at a time the next four games. I think things will take care of itself."

So come on everyone, put your energy together to pull for KC to beat Balti!

Nope, still want the Chiefs to lose. Easiest path to the playoffs iS as WC, so, rooting against all the other 7-5 teams...

You know, though, the great thing? One of them WILL LOSE, either way it is good for us!

Since we hold the tiebreaker head to head with KC, it is okay if they win. :sure:
