ShulaSteakhouse
Why is everyone "stupid" or a "dumb a$$" lately Hair, if they disagree with you? Get over it man! (although I agree on Brooks to an extent because he's playing "this year" and doing rather well now IMO) Please don't agree with me in the same sentence you're attempting to attack me. It confuses the kids.Should be a politician, or a Bengals' head coach.
HairOnFire
Why is everyone "stupid" or a "dumb a$$" lately Hair, if they disagree with you?"lately"?? Must I remind you, dear moderator, that it was I who recently appealed for calm on these message boards, and after criticizing my own behavior I offered some sort of apology to the now offended Kid Steakhouse? And need I remind you, dear moderator, that you responded to the above by lusting for even more blood to be shed. As always, dear moderator, my sword arm is at your command. The "lately" was just too easy. If I had a nickle for every time you've called me "pie-eyed stupid" or "batsh*t crazy" or somesuch, well, I'd have a whole lotta nickles. (Of course, it helps that I am batsh*t crazy.)
HairOnFire
Oh, and I forgot.....bring back the Heat Miser avatar. Your request is noted, but it's my choice and I greatly prefer the naked gal wrapped in a flag. The "lately" was just too easy. If I had a nickle for every time you've called me "pie-eyed stupid" or "batsh*t crazy" or somesuch, well, I'd have a whole lotta nickles. (Of course, it helps that I am batsh*t crazy.) Totally unfair. We've been swapping for more than a decade now, and I bet I could count on one hand the number of times I've insulted you in a sincere and meaninful manner. So at best, you're owed a quarter. The truth of the matter is while you may be occasionally bes**tted...you're no Kantou.
BengalPimp
I have seen Rucker play, and he sucks. He's also another questionable-character type that we need to see far fewer of on this team. He might have been ok as our second 7th round selection, but not at 3. I'm confused by the way you stick to your guns in one tiny portion of your post, and in several others willingly admit how horribly wrong you've been. Are you assuming that your willingness to admit how often your opinions are clueless somehow strengthens your credibility on the remaining issues whose outcomes can't be determined yet? Frankly, the only reason your opinion about Rucker can't be concluded to be pure idiotic folly is his unfortunate inability to play a single down this season. The moment that fact changes the quicker your opinion about him will be unmasked as the ravings of an unlovable fugtard....giving you yet another opportunity to brag about your willingness to admit your past mistakes. Why not hold your tounge until your brain engages?EXACTLY
Kazkal
Tell the Browns, texans and raiders hes avg where he was at most teams he would have been drafted as a starter.
BengalPimp
Hey Tijuana Jackson, Please pay close attention......It is impossible to accurately assess a draft after 1 year or just half of a season. Anybody who thinks they will find 7 immediate starters or contributers is either asleep dreaming in lala land, or is for an Expansion team. You Draft for the FUTURE. It is far too soon to pass judgement on players. Just because there may be some players who have yet to make an Impact, doesnt mean that they wont...In order to really evaluate a draft it has to be done 3 or 4 years down the line, to see who has produced, and also who did not leave as a free-agent, get injured, etc. Marvin does the Right thing....That is, draft the best players they feel are available(talent-wise) that they can use, Instead of Drafting for a Specific NEED and REACHING for a player with less talent................TEAMS ARE BUILT THROUGH THE DRAFT, BUT ANY TEAM DRAFTING FOR SPECIFIC NEEDS AND EXPECTING IMMEDIATE RESULTS IS A DESPERATE (LOSING) TEAM, TEAMS THAT HAVE THE LUXURY (PLAYOFF TEAMS) OF DRAFTING AND NOT DESPERATELY NEEDING IMMEDIATE RESULTS OFTEN END UP WITH FAR LESS "BUSTS" BECAUSE THEY DIDNT REACH IN THE DRAFT.........GET IT ? Stripes
I've already admitted that this draft is not as bad as I originally thought it to be. Several times.Sure, you've gone from "Worst Draft Ever" to "Very Poor Draft." Baby steps, I guess. BTW, this thread is a great read.
TJJackson
Hey Tijuana Jackson, Please pay close attention......It is impossible to accurately assess a draft after 1 year or just half of a season. How about assessing the players BEFORE draft day, so one can make good choices? Keep in mind that THIS is what I am talking about. Is that impossible too? I only ask because the league, all 32 teams, and several so-called experts (Mel Kiper et al ad infinitum) do seem to think that some analysis IS possible. There's all that college game footage to look at, interviews, observations of drills, interviews, sprint timing, strength tests....none of this has any value in evaluating a given player? Perhaps you feel it'd be just as good to have college players simply randomly assigned to NFL teams?TEAMS ARE BUILT THROUGH THE DRAFTThis is perhaps the one thing we agree on - and mind you, this is why I care so much about the draft......good decisions now mean a good team in the future. When I see poor drafting, I get upset about it, because it will hurt my team - you know, the one in the tiger stripes - in the long run. When I see poor drafting, I get upset about it, because it will hurt my team - you know, the one in the tiger stripes - in the long run.As for the drills and workouts, the Bengals draft talented players, players who perform, as for strength tests, while it is 1 thing to observe, dont read too much into that. There are some players who are "workout warriors" who skyrocket up the draft charts, while all the drills, strength tests, 40 yrd times, may have been impressive, they dont always translate into on-the-field-production....I remember many players who "wowed" at combines, but were "busts" . As a matter of fact I remember a lot of the so-called "experts" (Kiper included) saying Mike Mamula had THE most impressive workouts they have EVER seen, this guy is a Stud, he will be a monster, blah,blah,blah...end result "BUST"..the draft is a gamble.....sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes youre just ok.If you get a chance TJ, watch Inside the NFL(if you havent already) this week. They had a pretty good takeon some of Marvin's picks on "questionable" characters, this is not word for word, mind you, but basically they were saying that when Marvin got here, and at the beginning, the Bengals were terrible for a long time, so nobody wanted to come play here, it was hard to get good free-agents, so he had to kind of gamble on players with great talent, but somewhat suspect charcter issues in the draft just to upgrade the talent on the roster. They also said that they are a much better franchise now and he doesnt think that they need to draft questionable "character" guys who anymore, because now they are a better team, they can draft differently and free-agents are willing to sign here....again not word for word, but it makes sense. Regardless, I think we all know they will do things a little differently come next April.
