Chad's Disappointment after the win

His only disappointment: a gag order from coach Marvin Lewis now prevents him from celebrating or gloating.

"I was asked to change by the head man," he said, clearly disappointed. "So therefore, what you see from me is what he wants -- just make your plays and go back to the huddle. So that's what I'm going to do. Going to be no more talking, no nothing. Just go out there and play, go home. If that's what it takes to make us a better team, so be it."

Asked if that means no more touchdown celebrations, Johnson nodded.

"Very lame, isn't it?" he said.

I dont think this is great news :(

Nope, publicly showing up the coach is not what you want. Looks like Marvin needs to talk to Mr. Sensitive.

You are over reacting to a non story. Chad said that he will do whatever it takes for the team to win, and if that means to go back to the huddle, run the plays, and not have such over the top celebrations, he will do it.

Non story. Move along.

I need to see the expressions he had on his face during this little interview... but yeah it looks pretty bad in text.

I did see the interview, and he was rather somber. Of course they didn't show the part of the interview where he was asked about the 4th down play and he said "I love Bratkowski. I love him, I love him, I love" or something like that.

Last year in the playoff game, Chad said that Marvin gave him a gag order not to do any trash talking. Later on Marvin said that Chad asked him if it was okay to throw him under the bus, and Marvin said it was fine.

Chad decided that the best way to prepare for the game was not to get overly involved in the trash talking, and thought that rather than explain that to the media, he'd blame Marvin.

Not sure if the same thing is happening here... but Chad looked frustrated (as well as hurt) the entire game. Seems to me that if he manages to get healthy, and Carson can get him the ball in the 1st quarter like he did in the 4th, we won't see somber Chad, but the same old fun loving Chad.

As for the TD celebrations... I'd bet that Marvin warned him not to get any 15 yard penalties, but I doubt he said anything more than that.

I don't read this as pouting.

I think this board and Bengals fans have an unhealthy obsession with trying to generate controversy with Chad Johnson. Every game, every time, someone is parsing some quote of Chad's and playing arm-chair psychologist by trying to suss out his every expression. That s**t gets old.

He had the single biggest catch of the game, and moved the chains on four other occasions. Period. Nothing to see here, and the attention to trying to manufacture negatives from him on every ***damn occasion is unseemly...

Ummmm, I read it as pouting. Chad has gotten plenty of undeserved props for not melting down in the press yet, but anyone who hasn't seen his overwrought gyrations and displays on gameday isn't watching closely. Not that our impressions matter much because this is Marvin's team and he alone determines what issues are important enough to deal with. And on that score he's finally admitted that Chad Johnson's habit of drawing endless attention to himself is impacting Chad's own play and by extension...the rest of the team.

Like it or not the public face of this team is too often portrayed by the Bengals trio of supremely talented but goofy as hell wide receivers. Happy trash talking Chad, angry trash talking TJ, and the mumbling drunken ramblings of manchild Chris Henry.

So who am I to complain if Marvin has finally told the most visible member of that group to tone it down? Frankly, if you ask me it's been too long in coming.

Chad always looks hurt! He does put his body out there a lot with total disregard to injury and takes quite a bit of his share of beatings, but he does seem to be a bit of an exagerationist.
