membengal Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 It was rough, but they still scored 28. They can ride it out until Richie is back. Quote
WhoDey93285 Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 You have to give the defense of the Steelers a ton of credit, all of those sacks weren't Giachuc's fault...We'll be okay. Quote
Stripes Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 The entire offensive line aside from Big Willie seemed to struggle at times today... but I agree that we'll be able to ride it out until they get back in form. Quote

I don't care that it was ugly we got the "W". Quote
DontPushMe Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 most of the pressure was coming from around the outside, willie anderson looked real bad too..that said, we do need braham back, because he makes the line calls, and is a real leader and vet, we can hold up until he gets back, but it will be a huge boost to our team when we get him back Quote
Kazkal Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 Aye just hope we get more protection next week sense pats offense >stillers Quote
ArmyBengal Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Our line played like absolute sh*t and there's no way to argue that one...On the other hand, it's nice to know our sh*tty days are still good enough to get the win !!!WHODEY !!! Quote

buck3y3d Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Willie looked old and slow on the one play. He got beat straight up the outside, no move. That line play worries me. There was no room for Rudi in the middle either. I think Braham is an integral part of the o-line, and we may just miss his stability. Quote
Kazkal Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 hope they put in the linemens contracts their not allowed to give up more then a certin amount of sacks lol. Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Our line played like absolute sh*t and there's no way to argue that one...I will. I thought the line looked pretty good all things considered, including Bluto in for Braham and Whitworth having to come in for Levi. But even with the line at 100% you still know it will be a contest and Palmer was taking way too many liberties for my tastes. I can not tell you how often I was screaming "THROW THE BALL, CARSON!!!!" at the TV. If the coverage is there, eff it, throw it out of bounds and try again. Or punt. But he took sack after sack today. And his ball security sucked too. Could the line have played better? Sure. But Carson knew what the state of the line was, you have to adjust your play to deal with reality. Early on he didn't and that almost cost us big time. Props esp. to Bluto for falling on that first fumble. Blame Carso, blame Brat for not giving him enough outs (TEs or RBs, damn, where's Chris Perry when you need him!) but the o-line wasn't the bigest problem on offense today. Quote

How much of that is attributable to Braham is questionable. They were basically attacking the line in both run and pass blitzes. When it got picked up Carson had people open. Quote
rishipatel Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 An ugly win but a win just the same. What is it that they always say? Oh yeah...the good teams find a way to win...even when they have a bad game. Quote
Dadraftnick Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Coaches need to explain to Girlcheck that his guy to block is NOT the invisiable man.The last few weeks he has just stood there blocking air as a pash rusher went right by him.He may not have caused all of the sacks but ,he caused most of them. The Bengals need to consider giving Wilkinson a shot or at least get him off the practice squad before some other team takes him.Wilkinson was the one opening all of those big holes in the pre season,I think he is a better C than Ghicaiuc,he was All American before his knee injury.Another thing I would like to see is Stacy Andrews tried at C, he would be a hell of a thing to try to get around. They said that they have some plays for Andrews at TE , I would love to see Andrews at TE blowup Ray Lewis on some running plays. Kirkendall Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 A quick note... not connecting anything to poor play, but this is pretty interesting. When Rich Braham played this season, the Bengals offensive line gave up only one sack. Since he left the game early in the 2nd quarter of game two -- when Eric G. came in -- the team has given up 10 sacks.I'm not going to blame one guy or the other. But Eric G. is the offensive line signal caller and he's the one that establishes those that will block blitzing linebackers, etc.. Just a thought. Quote

TippCityRick Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Anybody else like the idea of playing Steinbach at C and bringing in Whitworth at LG? I thought it worked well against Cleveland. Of course this is assuming that Levi is healthy. That I'm not too sure of. Quote
TJJackson Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I look at it this way - we need to find a suitable replacement for Richie Braham (over a dozen years of paying has taken its tool on this blue-collar warrior of a player) here and now, so while he is out, we need to let Ghiaciuc take the rookie lumps and get valuable snaps in actual games. So much the better against better defenses and on the road, where the going is tougher and you learn more.It is said one learns far more from mistakes than from successes. We need to allow time and snaps to let Ghiaciuc learn the spot I think he'll be fine once he has a few games under his belt, particularly in home games where noise won't be such a factor. Quote
BengalByTheBay Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I'm with Hoosier on this one. Plenty of blame goes to the O line, but CP was rooted there and seemed unsure of his timing routes. Almost like he needed to see the receiver get open before letting it go. Obviously, since this was a big game and LeBeau was sending people from everywhere, it's understandable. CP has played better and will against almost every defense in the league. He had a down game and still sacked-up for 4 TD's. Bluto's getting some valuable experience, so this is not a complete waste. I expect improvement and so, I am sure, does the coaching staff. But, damn, his first two career starts are vs. the Jags and Steelers. He's doing okay. Levi's still hurting and that's more of a concern to me at this point. Quote

Of course this is assuming that Levi is healthy. That I'm not too sure of.Short term? yeah.Long term? It's highly unlikely we can afford to keep Steinbach past this year. Let the guy who will be staying get snaps at the position he'll play....and to me, that means Ghiacuic at C, and Whitworth 9 (as much as possible) at LGDon't get me wrong - I love Steinbach at LG, and I love his versatility. It's purely a cap thing - they should have put the money they gave Willy (and old but great player whose best games are unfortunately behind him) on Steinbach (a young and very good player with great versatility) who will likely only get better. Quote
TippCityRick Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I guess I did mean short term, TJ, until Braham gets back. No, Steiny will be gone at the end of the season (cap) so this wouldn't work long term. But short term, instead of taking the chance of Palmer getting beat to a pulp, it may have some merit.I understand those of you who want Gcheck to get his experience. However my eyes tell me that there was a lot of confusion in the protection schemes yesterday. Yes, Lebeau sent some exotic schemes, however it won't get any easier next week. Belechic loves to confuse the opposition and if he can't confuse Palmer, he'll confuse Gcheck. If I know Braham, he'll be back after the bye or after Tampa at the least. Quote
Kirkendall Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 At the same time, it's hard to compare the KC D-Line with Pittsburgh's.Very true. But in two games last season WITH Rich Braham, against the Steelers, Palmer was sacked a total of THREE times. He was sacked six times yesterday. Quote
HoTbOy Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I want RBraham back...If CPalmer gets hurt yesterday everyone would have said because RBraham was not in...EGhiacuic did a decent job but 6 sacks they were coming so fast I couldn't tell who got beat but most were straight up the middle when the LB's crossed...when WAnderson got beat for a sack, I was like why did they resign him, he L Ked terrible...
