Difficult schedule or not, there is NO reason why we can't go 11-5. Healthy Carson and an improved defense. How much improved will be the deciding factor in the end, but 11-5 is more than possible for this team barring injuries of course...

One thing about the schedule is that several of the games that seems like they should be tough will be easy and vice versa. I'm not about to try to predict each of the games considering that so much can change within the season itself, but I believe that we are better than last season and even with the "harder" schedule, we shouldn't drop lower than our 11 - 5 mark from last season. So for this season, I will predict one more win and make the final total 12 - 4 including another AFC North crown. Last season I predicted 11 - 5 and got it right... here's to hoping that trend continues.

Hey, just to keep things in perspective, 9 wins will win the AFC North this year.

Just remember you heard it hear (get it?) first!

(BTW, I am not predicting that OUR Bengals will win that FEW ball games.)

:P

My pick for the B's? 11-12 W's (gotta figure we are due for a couple on the road like last year vs Jags), especially since we are still YOUNG and immature (more mature than last year for sure, but still maturing). See Thurman suspension first four games if you are in doubt. Then read the Page 2 ESPN article to see what I mean.

HE DIDNT EVEN INHALE! (Not that I doubt him, but WHERE have we heard that before?)

Not to shoot down anyone's predictions... they are just speculation after all... but I just hate the 10-6's! This team has only gotten better than its 11-5 performance last season.

Sure, there's a huge difference between last season's schedule and this one, but if this team is as good as we all think it is (to even be mentioned in Superbowl discussion) I wouldn't think that should matter.

Difficult schedule or not, 10-6 is mediocre. Just my opinion.

I'll explain my 10-6 prediction. For me it's an attempt to temper my homerism. After Monday night it is really easy to get sucked into the 12-4, 13-3 discussions.

For instance... ESPN Radio had a Bengal love-fest after Palmer showed his stuff. Cowherd, a Bengal basher, finally bought into Palmer. Mike and Mike raved, and Mort changed his pick from Ravens to Bengals. The Sports Bash guy, Eric (I'm not going to try to spell his last name) said "If you're a Bengal fan, there's not a team in the league that you should be afraid of."

So the 10-6's are an attempt to balance it all out. I want to come out with a 19-0 prediction like the sarcastic Hoosier prediction, and my heart tells me to, but it's just not realistic. We have a tough schedule ahead of us... so I'm just trying to be reasonable... and personally, I think 10-6 will win this division, so it's not "mediocre."

I will say that when I look at our schedule, I don't see a single loss. I can come up with an immediate reason why we can win each and every game... But we're not going to do that. We're going to lose a game or two we shouldn't... and probably a couple to really good teams that we'll get a chance at again in the playoffs.

If it makes you feel better... I do think we've improved every aspect of our team now that Palmer looks to be back... so I'll bump my prediction up to 11-5, but that's as high as I'm going. If we do better, I'll be that much happier.

I'm still predicting Super Bowl though. Last year all we needed was a decent defense. This year we've got it.

It's not sarcastic, it's part of plan to become a sports genius. When the Bengals go 19-0 (and someday they will) I will be right and all you peons will grovel in awe before me! BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

Heads off to the Krusty Krab to implement latest scheme for stealing the secret forumla to the Krabby patty...

That's certainly understandable. Nobody wants to go out in a thread like this and look like a lame homer/bandwagoner that didn't know who Chad Johnson was until two years ago. Like you, when I look at the schedule, all I see are inferior teams. Teams we can and should beat, every single week.

I know we won't win them all, probably not even close. I just can't imagine a team this talented and this driven losing six games. I don't want to sound like a homer either, but I gotta be honest too. I see 12-4/13-3 as more likely than 10-6.

I hope I'm right.

Stands up .... adjusts sporran....prepares to be shot down!

Sept: 1-2

Loses at Kansas & Pittsburgh sandwich the home field destruction of Cleveland

Oct: 3-1

Blow past New England, Tampa and Atlanta with Carolina being a bananaskin

Nov: 4-1

Split matches with Baltimore and beat San Diego, New Orleans and Cleveland

Dec: 2-2

Beat Oakland and Pittsburgh but lose away at Indy and Denver

Pans out at a 10-6 season and a possible wild card

Takes deep breath from last weekends debacle and reassess feelings.

Well, apart from getting my dates wrong (3 games in Sept? D'oh!) how do I now think the season will pan out?

Up to bye week 3 - 1

Oct 3-0 (6-1) I think we will bounce back and sweep October with home field advantage playing a big part

Nov 2-3 (9-3) Split with Ravens, beat Cleveland, loose to NO and San Diego will run all over us!

Dec 2-2 (11-5) Beat the Raiders and Steelers, slip up at Indy and Denver.

Finishes up at 11-5 and a wild card spot but no divisional title, better than I originally thought before the season kicked-off so WHO DEY!

6-2 @ home worst case scenario

5-3 on the road worst case scenario (I believe that we will be better on the road again, 7-1 or 6-2)

So, 11-5 at worst and 13-3 more than likely.

I still think that 9-7 will win the AFC North this year. But I guess that we will just have to wait and see. :sure:

We're on pace for 12-4... and have by no means played the easiest part of our schedule. NE, @KC, and @ Pit are all incredibly tough games. being 3-1 is still damn respectable.

Meanwhile... everyone is in love with the Ravens who beat Tampa, Oakland, and barely squeaked out a victory against Cleveland. I'll give props for the SD victory... but they haven't proven anything either with a first year starter at QB.

Let's see how Baltimore does in its next 4 games (@Den, Car, @N.O., Cin) before we dub them the "team to beat." Given the schedules, I'd still say our 3-1 is more impressive (although I admit they would probably be 1-3 with Boller at QB).

My initial thoughts this season were 12-4 or 13-3, and I'll stand by that. I didn't see the Patriots romp coming at all, and that's because this is a very good football team. The run defense will have to improve if the Bengals are going to do anything in the playoffs, but until then I think we're going to be winning games consistently all year.

If we beat SD and Ben gets on track; you will have more to worry from us than Baltimore. Bank on it.

That is a pretty big IF, don't you think?

I don't think that is anywhere near a big "IF"... The Steelers with a "right" Rottenfurburger and that defense are more of a force than what Baltimore has done to this point. Minus the San Diego game, I'm not overwhelmed with the Ravens, but will not take anything away from their 4-0 record atop the AFCN...
