Carson Palmer's progress (He's runnin')

Billy I believe he was wearing a brace on that fateful Sunday afternoon last January. He will definetly be wearing a brace whether he's on the field or holding a clipboard come opening day in Kansas City.

I don't think so Rick. I'm certainly not calling you a liar or anything, but I don't see one on him. kimo4gz.jpg

I mean he may have been wearing something like the neoprene support brace, but surely nothing like the one in my first post in this thread. There's no way to hide something that big under their tight fitting uniforms!

hey i just got done watching some of cold pizza. they had some dude on there talking about culpepper and palmer. he said to all you bengal fans expect palmer to be ready for the start of the season. he said his rehab has been going very good. this is awesome news guys. if he could only miss 2 games at the worst case scenario we would be in good shape.

Sounds good... but who is the "some dude"? I'm looking for credibility more than fluffy feel good stuff.

Apparently the guys at ESPN have these state-of-the-art computers that are connected to this amazing network called the Internet. That's why they have access to these non-specific rumors that the rest of us haven't heard yet ;) .

He's definetly wearing a brace. Look at the difference in sizes of the two knees. Around his calf where the brace ends is huge compared to the other. He wore a knee brace on that knee the entire season, and I often noticed how big it looked compared to the other one.

Quarterback Carson Palmer didn’t suit up for Tuesday morning’s first voluntary workout of the spring at Paul Brown Stadium, but all eyes were on him as he threw to receivers during warmups and then jogged some sprints at a fairly good rate on the sidelines.

Palmer, rehabbing from reconstructive knee surgery, bequeathed his spot to Doug Johnson and Anthony Wright. Both are to rotate with the No. 1 team as Wright took the first snap of the walk through. Also not in the lineup was running back Rudi Johnson, who worked out on the side as he continues to recover from offseason arthroscopic knee surgery. With Chris Perry also out while recovering from a scope, Kenny Watson took the first snap at running back. It’s Watson’s first appearance since he suffered a season-ending arm injury in last year’s opener.

Also not suited up as they recover from various ailments are linebacker David Pollack (foot), center Eric Ghiaciuc (undetermined), wide receiver Chris Henry (knee), cornerback Deltha O’Neal (knee scope) and offensive linemen Adam Kieft and Larry Moore (recovering from reconstructive knee surgeries).

Safety Madieu Williams, who missed all but four games with a shoulder injury last season, suited up and practiced.

For people who live in Cincy Palmer is going to be on Channel 5 News at 5.

For all you doubters I will take bets on Palmer being our opening day QB. I can't wait. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.

Reading betwen the lines in all this, I note an alarming fact.

The only uninjured center (I count the news about Wilkerson painfully hobbling around on two braces as the same as he is injured) we have is Braham. No, I'm not counting the UDCFA center.

Anyone know anything about Ghiaciuc's "undetermined" injury?

It doesn't suprise me that Larry Moore is injured - I honestly don't recall him ever being healthy during the season - he needs to go.

This may open some playing time for the big rookie OL.....Steinbach would shift to C and he would play LG.

I imagine Ghiaciuc's injury is nothing to worry about. They don't take any chances with guys this early in the practice schedule (which is why the news on Madieu is so good). A lot of big name guys sit out at these practices if they are anything but 100%.

I don't remember who it was last year, but I do remember a certain amount of panic for the same reasons. Rudi, Perry, Deltha, Pollack and Ghiaciuc will all be ready to go for the July training camp I'm betting.

I feel like a broken record, but I fully expect Rich Braham to keep playing past this season. He just said that was his plan all along...so I got that much right, and the rest of my guessing involves him re-signing with the Bengals after receiving little or no interest in FA. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if when the season was over he eventually signs another two year deal.

I seem to remember Willie being held out for much of camp and some of the PS games last year. Is that who you were thinking about DShank? If so, you are right, he stepped right in when they started counting as if nothing was wrong. That could have had a lot to do with his senior vet. status though. In any event, I agree with you that it's too early to get real concerned -- now if this same slate of players is riding the old stationary bike in June, I'll be getting my panties in a bunch too.

Wilkerson will beat out Guychick this preseason, and possibly Braham.

It was mentioned on the radio here locally that the coaches were really impressed with him (100% and in good shape, and he did well).

He's had a whole year to learn the playbook, gotta think he'll give Braham a run for his money, if Braham's re-signed.

Anyone notice the during one of the runs (the only one I found/watched) Palmer takes off running and out of no one the ball boy comes into the picture right in front of Carson making him slow way down really fast........

If something would of happend...... The guys head would be gone!

Here's a rough estimate of an ACL rehab timeline. It's obviously not an exact science... and Carson hurt his MCL too... but it gives you a decent idea of what to look for.

- 3-5 days: Initial physical therapy evaluation.

- 14 days: Achieve 90 degrees of flexion range of motion and full extension.

- 4 weeks: Achieve 120 degrees of flexion range of motion.

- 4-6 weeks: Achieve full flexion range of motion at 135 to 140 degrees.

- 10 weeks: Initiate straight plane running activities, no cutting.

- 12-16 weeks: Initiate early cutting activities and return to sport activities.

- 3-4 months: Completion of formal physical therapy intervention and initiation of maintenance program.

- 6-8 months: Full return to sports participation unrestricted.

Carson will be at the 4 week mark on Wednesday... which means even if things are going slightly ahead of schedule, there's still no story here. Talk to me around the beginning of April. If he's cleared to do cutting activities, it will be a good sign... and something the Bengals will definitely want publicized.

If we aren't hearing reports about him running and cutting in April... well, that will be a very bad sign. Until then, there's really nothing newsworthy to talk about.

My take is that he is ahead of this schedule, although he is obviously not doing any cutting, but my take is that it is conservative precaution. Afterall, why does Carson need to be doing full cutting at this point. My guess is that (and based on teammate comments) he is doing everything that everyone else is doing in the weightroom and conditioning wise, so he will be good to go. the fact that he is on the field throwing to receivers in drills and sprinting on the side is enough evidence that he will be back for opening day. My sense is that he will probably participate in the June mini-camp on a restricted basis and will be full-go for training camp, although my sense is he will be held back and not play preseason games until the 3rd or 4th game.

Besides, why rush him back now? Mini-camp is a month away and training camp is over 2 months away. the critical time to have him back is mid sempteber for the start of the season!

WhoDey!
