EdwardG
Should be a good replacement for Tory James. We desparately needed some more athleticism in the secondary. This pick reminds me of the Madieu Williams pick, a guy somewhat unsung guy but a good athlete.

WretchedOne
I think Jonathan is a very solid playes. Very sound in his coverage skills and is a ballhawk. Prototypical Marvin Lewis player. If we can get him into camp on time, I really think he's got a nice shot at starting.I would also expect Tory James to now be cut. princeton
sounds like Deltha, whom we cleaned up. Hopefully it works twicecan he return punts?
cincy9275
he sounds like he may be a good player . biggest knock was he was a project and could have used another year his size and speed are very good but i am not real happy over this pick there were a lot of better players still available . i would have rather traded down and there is a real good chance he would still be there. another 1st round draft pick that will not play alot next season i hope he does but we have some guys that can play back there. I say let him stay around and help Joseph learn. Besides, you can't have too many good corners and Tory is at least still a decent corner. TJJackson
I would also expect Tory James to now be cut.Err....keep in mind that Joseph has only one year of starting experience at the 1A level....so we need to groom him for a year or two to replace Tory.In the meantime, he plays some at nickel or dime and probably a lot of special teamsTory sticks around to MENTOR this guyThey guys who face being cut now are Keiwan, Bauman, Brooks, and Body. Probably mostly Bauman
NJ29
FYI, Available numbers for JJ (My nickname for him from here on out.)222629373839434546I hope that he take seither 29, 39, 37 or 46. If takes 29, I'm buying a jersey.

kingwilly
Props and Kudos to WO for pimping him from the beginning...BUT this is a bad pick...barely 1 year of starting????? good athlete but next to no big time/game experience.YOubouty was there, Lewis, Kiwi...This one will come back to bite us...THe two picks I was going to be angry about the Bengals taking in r1 were Joseph or Mangold.....I think this was a bad bad bad pick... wookie
Agreed, James will not be cut. The Bengals coaches had nothing but praise for James this year, even saying they thought he played better than his Pro Bowl season last year.James has lost a step, and he wasn't one of the fastest players on the field to begin with, but he's still the starter. I think Joseph gets time to learn the position from a talented veteran and he gets a chance to start in his 2nd or 3rd year depending on 1: How long James is effective or if he retires, and 2: Ratliff's progression.I think he will be utlized in the nickel, and will be a productive special teamer. kingwilly
Cromartie was injured, and returned.....Not the same as being green from inexperience.Plus, he was gone so the point is moot. My point is that among the remaining players they took JJ....weak.

kingwilly
When evaluating a guy who is inured vs not...it does present a dilemma...I consider Cromartie a better projet/prospect as he played better, when he got the chance and offers more...returns, going over to safety....JJ offers one year of playing D.I-A at ALL....Anyone who thinks JJ is anything more than a project...fools.... HairOnFire
Anyone who thinks JJ is anything more than a project...fools.... I think you're driving your point home a little too strongly, but I'm not as positive about the pick as most seem to be. Frankly, I think I've pimped every cornerback in the draft who was a potential 1st round pick, but I never included Joseph because I felt he was too raw to qualify. That said, it's not a bad, bad, bad pick....simply because JJ has got every tool you look for, speed to burn, and the Bengals can afford to wait. But damn... kingwilly
HOF...you are right but this draft is stacked with impact players at nearly every position..that is where the "DAMN" comes into play...JJ rmins me of Fabian Washington, the Neb CB Oaktown took last year after the guy raced up the boards with great workout numbers....he is a project, as is JJ...and now I end my negativity towards the pick.It is my solemn hope that JJ develops quickly and becomes a solid, long-standing fixture at our CB position. From here on...it will only be support for our newest Bengal Jonathan Joseph!!!!! WHODAT?...I mean...WHODEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NJ29
I'm okay with it... All I can say is that people see him as a Deltha clone... and that has worked out for us.
