duus
OK ... nothing, I guess. But is it any great secret at this point that Favre is trying to force the Packers hand on a trade? Sounds a bit crazy at first, but I'm seeing more and more that this may very well be what is going on. Hard to think of Favre outside of GB, but he wants to win ... and now. He doesn't see the commitment in Green Bay. Imagine that ... it pains me to even consider it ... that the Bengals come to the conclusion that they may be without Palmer for the first 8 games. Heck, I've heard 8-12 months, which could mean more than that on the outside (I think I want to cry ... and then go take it out on a Steeler fan here in Pittsburgh ... now that would be fun). Back to the topic ... wouldn't it be a bit crazy for the Bengals to then make a pitch for Favre? There is no doubt that the Bengals are as close as any team for next year if it isn't for the Palmer being out. Hey, a fellow can dream can't he? His recovery is right on schedule at this point...Man, I want this to be true more than anyone. You know how many times I've worn my Palmer jersey here in Pittsburgh over the last few months and had jerks yell, "hey, how's the knee?" Yeah, classy fans ... anything but. I want him back for week one ... that is my dream. But I do know this is a tough injury. Heck, Culpepper had a similar injury, right? And his was a few months earlier, and he is quoting as 'hoping' to be ready for week 1. I really don't want to be pessimistic about this, but just a concerned fan. Then again, Rod Woodson, as I recall, tore his ligaments in August in the mid '90s, and was able to play in the Super Bowl that year. That was only like 6 months. I would love to know of recent recovery examples ... that might make me feel better about the whole thing. I just cannot wait for the day when I can reply to these obnoxious fans. turningpoint
they have something in common, they seem to get a lot of interceptions.
andybren
Brett Favre is the worst possible candidate to bring into an established system and expect to "fill in" for a game or two. He's an unorthodox quarterback who relies upon his physical skills (which are declining) and raw instincts, and would require the entire offensive system to be re-written to suit his playing style. He was a great football player, but he's no hired gun.You bring in Brett Favre and you might as well bench Palmer for the year. Unless you want the rest of the offense to be learning two different playbooks --- one for Favre's 3-4 games, and one for Palmer's 12-13 games. On the other hand, what better redemption against Steeler fans than to have a relatively healthy Palmer throwing a 60-yard bomb on the first drive of the game. Whether it's Week 3 or Week 16.
derekshank
Culpepper's injury was significantly worse than Palmer's, because he also tore his PCL... and the fact that he is a mobile QB makes his effectiveness even more in question. That is the concern. If he was a pocket QB, there would probably not be much of a question.Palmer has beat every target date... but I still expect him to miss the first few games, and be back after the bye week. I would be surprised if he missed any more than that. He will feel like the knee is ready by the beginning of the season, and will be pushing Marvin to get him in there... Marvin will allow him to go after the bye week, if not earlier.
Larry
Derek is right again....after the bye week I say,Farve should only be considered if Palmer is out for the year, and that is the only way he would come here. You know if Greise wouldn't come here to sit, do you think a future hall famer would? It would be fun to see him throw to Chad and company. Know one throws the rock like Brett...
redsbengalsbucks
He already has 5 completions to the Bengals last season.
ArmyBengal
Faver is not what I would like to see the Bengals do. For one, I want to see Faver retire as a Packer. He took them to the big one and won it and would look idiotic in any other uniform. Sort of like when Montana put on a Chiefs uni... Stupid...WHODEY !!! duus
Hmmm ... Montana. Now there's a thought! Ha! Just having a bit of fun ... looking for yet another reason to get folks stirred up in a boring April. Boy, do I hope and pray Carson is just fine and gets a big ol' miracle and is ready as can be by Week 1 !!!

duus
Duus have you had any good stories to tell us about the trailer folk in Pitt lately? Any of the local radio guys bashed the Bengals recently? The thieves are as obnoxious as ever now that Choke Cowher finally got the nut every blind squirrel finds in a lifetime. They are still flying their car flags and wearing their gear everywhere from churches to funerals (I kid you not ... I've seen them in both places and everywhere in between). I continue to take my fair share of abuse, but I don't care ... I will wear my Bengal gear every day of the week! As I always say, "allow you to wade in your ignorance" is best applied to this dying city full of yinzers. Hey, I'm heading to Indy with a short trip to Cincinnati this weekend. I can't wait! Home, sweet, home. I've told my wife that I need periodic doses of sanity (trips to Cincy) until we finally move to the good old KY. I long to find that place I will some day call home in the heart of the Bluegrass ... Lexington, Ky.Go Bengals!
ArmyBengal
I found this bit of information MORE than interesting... No wonder he's being a D*CK...Packers | Favre's retirement could make team spend moneyTue, 11 Apr 2006 18:31:26 -0700ESPN.com's John Clayton reports Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre's retirement could be a financial disaster, but in a different kind of way for the team. With his $3 million roster bonus and $7 million in salary, Favre would make $10 million this year if he plays. The Packers would save $10 million of cash if he doesn't, but that's not necessarily a good thing. The Packers have a payroll of around $76 million, but that doesn't include draft choices or any other free agent signings. Not having Favre would take the payroll down to $66 million. With the new collective bargaining agreement, teams must have a minimum cash payroll of $85.5 million, meaning the Packers would have to spend $19.5 million just to make the minimum. With the players remaining as free agents, the Packers would be hard pressed to spend the money they would need to.WHODEY !!!
Stripes
I still think the Packers would better off if he retired. I saw another headline on espn.com about the Packers possibly getting involved with the LaVar Arrington talks. He could help them keep that spending up if Favre leaves. Then they could overpay all their rookies and extend all their current valuable players. Sucks to be the Packers either way.

But that is probably just a move to tell Bret that the Packers are trying to have a winner so he stays. I would be surprised if they signed LA. The other thing that is odd, is that the new coach hasn't said a word about any of this stuff. Who is their new coach anyway? The inmates are running the asylum on this one. Favre's skills (ie: mechanics, decision making abilities) dropped off steadily after Holmgren left. He put his foot in his ass while Sherman let Favre run the show. He is too undiciplined to do that consistently. Remember, BF was boo-hooing about not coming back if Sherman wasn't there anymore. Last time I checked, Sherman got the boot after the season. MacD BengalFan
30 INT's last season. Now, people are suggesting the maybe Brett could come in and help while Carson is recovering. Sorry, but that is an insane idea. He has already proven he can't handle the current system he is playing in and people expect him to pick a new system. The 30 INT's from last season would be repeated before the bye week this coming season if he played for the Bengals. He forces the ball all time, he makes horrible decisions, throws the ball up for grabs and constantly tries to make something out of nothing. He will not change for anyone. If he is picked up by the Bengals, that would be such a huge mistake that even Mike Brown wouldn't attempt to make. Brett needs to retire and quit holding Title Town hostage and please parish any thoughts of him playing for the Bengals.
Wraith
LINK: http://www.gbnreport.com/Thought this might spark conversation, if Favre wants to play for a winner and only wants to play one more year and won't mind stepping aside for Palmer when he gets healthy, I'd do this for a second rounder. You know from last year Chad would love Favre to throw balls to him
turningpoint
LMFAO a 2nd rounder for a qb to play 5 games! We might as well trade our 2nd and 1st rounders and go up to get jay cutler.Maybe favre for a 6th round pick, that's it. Larry
WRONG. Farve first of all would mind sitting behind anyone anytime. It would be worth talking about if Palmer was not able to go most of the season.
HoosierCat
I wouldn't mind Lord Favre, but I wouldn't hand over a second. Maybe a conditional fourth in 2007 that could rise as high as a first (if, say, Favre starts the whole year and we win the Super Bowl). ArmyBengal
A 2ND ROUNDER ??? Are you sure you aren't a Green Bay fan in disguise ?? Their fans are such blind fans of Favre they don't care what the team does as long as he has a good game. Crazy !!! I think any defensive position could be addressed with that 2nd rounder before we brought his monkeyass in here !!!WHODEY !!!
Stripes
I think we could get a quarterback in the 7th round that wouldn't throw 30 interceptions.
