Levi, Steiny, Bobbie in Extension Talks

At this point and for the dollars being thrown at other o-linemen across the league, it looks like Big-Willie might not be back, unless he takes a lower number considering he's getting up there, but I just don't see us getting that lucky when other teams are freaking stupid about giving crazy contracts...

**cough** Redskins - Browns **cough**

WHODEY !!!

I'm not to worried about Levi getting resigned, cause we'll use the transition tag or Franchise tag on him no matter what.

IMO i'd go transition, cause no money is too much for a franchise young probowl caliber LT.

Hell even if the redskins offer him 7 years 70million we need to match it.

Well what if Washington does that, and we happen to loose him?

Any good Tackles in the draft next year?

IDK but we wont lose him, cause I'll bomb Mike Browns house if they don't match the offer.
I will be the L  kout for you... i know the Bengals have good depth at OL, but i would hate to lose WAnderson...

all i remember is how everyone said levi was drafted to early  well it was one of the many solid picks

well he was drafted too early, but all the draft experts were flat out wrong.

Look at Mike WIlliams who went 4th overall and was thought to be the next Orlando Pace, he got cut and singed some s**t poo contract down in jax.

I don't understand paying relative big bucks to average players like Williams when you can easily draft a better one and sign him up for 4-5 years at a lesser price, and spend that money more wisely.

Justin Smith is the wolf in grandma's clothing - a tweener LB posing as a D-lineman with a bunch of junk tackle #'s and not enough sacks for a guy who seems to rush the QB on every passing down. He will hopefully not be re-signed, but since we're stuck with him, you have to hope he has his best season in a big FA year. I knock him, but I can't criticize his heart and effort...so there. :)

I hope Levi gets a 2 year extension and no more also.

I think Willie's health and effectiveness will keep around another couple of years...as long as the team is fair about his compensation.

Levi and Steiny will get some bank...but not before one is tagged for at least one year...it just is too risky to have them both signed, with huge signing bonuses, should one of them go down...

As for Justin, Ilve mentioned before he could probably play LB in a 3-4 scheme...inside or out..probably outside. I think he has underperformed for where he was drafted and will probably move on....now watch him break-out during his contract year.

Nick Mangold would be a better BPA than Gilles anyway...plus at a more needed position.

Glad to see the gesture at the very of least of the Bengals initiating talks with their O-Linemen. But it's my guess they'll all get strung along and this conversation will continue into the first part of the season. Levi's gonna be looking at huge LT money and Steinbach should be able to add a hefty sum to what he'll want thanks to Steve Hutchinson.

I don't expect us to get Levi extended into mid-way through the season. Thats how we did it with Carson, and Chad so I expect the same. Steinbach, I dunno, but he is NO Hutchinson, so if we wants what he wants I will stab him in the jaw

The only question is whether Hutch's contract will drag guards up in general. I'm almost inclined to say that his contract was so ****ing nuts that it will be tough for agents to use as a "comparable." Kind of like LaMont Jordan and the Raiders, in a way. But you never know.

I'll argue that they need to get one deal done pretty soon. It doesn't really matter which target signs, but this is the strategy they've embraced and they need to show some results.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Discussion wiith Levi, Eric and Bobbie are ongoing, if reports are to be believed -- but with all five offensive line starters becoming FAs after next season, the Bengals' negotiating leverage is practically nil. They can only franchise one of 'em, after all. And if either Steiny or Jones escapes into FA they will easily attract top-five-level money. In short, if the Bengals want to sign them now, they will have to pony up Big Buck$. In the end, I think they do...but I think that end comes a lot closer to next December than we are right now.
