princeton Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 chance seems miniscule that he falls this far, but say that concerns mount over his motion and Wonderlic, and that he's available when the Bengals select. The Bengals have the Palmer knee issue. Even if CP comes back strong, Young can play WR, perhaps. Or, if CP comes back strong, but Young first shows what he can do with a great offense, then he becomes quite a trade chip in the future.I don't see the Best-Available-Bengals passing on him Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 I don't see this happening unless hell freezes over, so take that for what it's worth. I wouldn't want him either... Trading him after drafting him and signing him to a contract would be a big cap hit as well I would imagine...WHODEY !!! Quote
DesperateDerelict Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 It's always nice to see that they're still smokin' pot at Princeton! Quote
princeton Posted March 16, 2006 Author Report Posted March 16, 2006 unheard of? Aaron Rodgers was once talked about as no. 1 overall, slipped to 24. Same slot. Quote
Pandre Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 With a wonderlic score like Young's you would think that he went to Princeton. Quote
Section 310 Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Vince Young would make a nice TE and emergency QB.I'm not convinced he will be a good NFL quarterback. I wouldtake Omar Jacobs ahead of him. Quote
Stripes Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 I don't think the idea is all that ludicrous. My only objection is that I expect Young to be a major bust in the NFL. Cutler? I could see it (if he were to fall that far for whatever reason), though I wouldn't like it. Quote
princeton Posted March 17, 2006 Author Report Posted March 17, 2006 agreed, like nearly all skill position picks at 24, he could be a big bust. But the upside is majorthe Bengals would be well-served to sound out Young about possibly playing other positions if Carson makes a complete comeback, while also promising to make a good-faith effort to deal him if Carson returns strong. If receptive, then he'd be some kind of weapon. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 Taking Young, "IF" he fell that far (Won't happen) is the stupidest thing I've heard of. If we want to take a TE in the first (see Pope) I won't be all that upset, but taking a guy I don't think will be worth much in the NFL to do NOTHING for us (don't tell me he'll start either) and totally neglect our pathetic excuse for a defense AGAIN would piss me off more than I could imagine. It would ruin my draft day party, because I would throw the TV out the F*CKING window !!!WHODEY !!! Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 I feel stupid just responding to this postEven though Aaron Rogers got picked at 24, he got picked by a team with long term questions at that position, which we don't have.It takes more than pot to think this one up Quote
princeton Posted March 17, 2006 Author Report Posted March 17, 2006 I've long assumed that Carson's going to have major knee problems. Powerful, yes, but flexible, no. At age 22, the guy couldn't even touch his toes. That's offensive lineman stuff.I wasn't surprised by the knee; I thought that the Bengals line did a great job keeping it intact for two seasons. But that was some first injury.the Bengals interest in upgrading the no. 2 quarterback from Kitna to someone better is well-justified, IMO. If Young's there, perhaps they pass, but that doesn't mean that they won't regret it down the line. Quote

Cutler threw about 50 passes to former Vanderbilt WRs Brandon Smith, Erik Davis and TE Dustin Dunning. In swirling winds, Cutler made almost every throw from short out patterns to deep balls. Representatives from 25 NFL teams witnessed an ideal throwing performance by Cutler in less ideal conditions. Quote
