DuffMan
http://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/individual_workoutsWhitner's stock just keeps rising, ran 40 times of 4.39 and 4.37 on a fast track. Is that enough speed for a safety in the Bengals' defensive backfield? Could play CB as well. Sorry Ko, you have some hard competition now. I think if Whitner's there at #24 the front office will have their slip of paper up at the podium before Taliabue can say "on the clock." BTW Hawk ran that 40 time everyone was expecting/waiting for. Stripes
That's a good showing on everyone's part... We should see a pretty good number of Buckeyes in the first round this year... I agree, if Whitner is there at 24, I wouldn't object to grabbing him at all.
ArmyBengal
If we are truly targeting a Safety in round #1, one of either Whitner or Simpson will be there and either would make me all sorts of happy !!! WHODEY !!!
GROIIIDayton
We will not take a saftey in the first round. It will be a CB, DT, or a TE
ArmyBengal
If we take a CB and Whitner and Simpson are on the board, I might F*CKING explode. WHODEY !!!
TJJackson
All these safteties and corners sneaking into the lower part of r1 has me thinking about trading down.....if several of the desirable ones are there at 24, why NOT trade down? Give someone 24 (and our 5th) for their 25-32 and their 4rd round pick. Or throw in our 5th and take their third rounder. There will be a LOT of quality available in r3. ArmyBengal
With Marvin and Company you always have to think a trade down is a BIG possibility. With the extra money from the CBA agreement, I can see Marvin drooling over an extra day one pick !!!WHODEY !!!
Whur CHad At?
Ko and Donte are very similar ball players. Either one would be a fine choice in my book. But like Army said, if one of them is there and we pass on like a TE, I might destroy something.
HairOnFire
If we take a CB and Whitner and Simpson are on the board, I might F*CKING explode. I'll miss you, but if the choice has to be made between one of the corners who slipped and Ko Simpson, well...you've got to go.
GROIIIDayton
If we take Whitner I might destroy something. He isn't even close to being worth a first round pick. If he is there in the second that would be a good pick, but I could still find other guys I would rather have. I watch every Buckeyes game this year and Mike Doss was better and he isn't that good of a pro. OSU produces average pro players face it. Produces average pro players ?? C'mon dude...Hair, that was meant considering none of the higher rated CB fall, but yes, I think it would still not be my favorite pick seeing the obvious holes on the D-line.WHODEY !!! kurgan74
Whitner is definitely first round material. Mike mayock of the NFL Network has Whitner as the top safety in the draft. Whitner's speed would allow him to play some corner as well in the NFL. I was surprised to hear Marvin Lewis did not attend the Buckeye pro day though...could definitely be a sign that the Bengals are not as high on Whitner as other teams. GROIIIDayton
I am sure whitner will go in the second round. I like him as an average NFL player. Ko Simpson will be a play maker if we were going Saftey in the first which we are not. If we draft a DB in the first it will be a corner. TJJackson
I'd rather have Jason Allen or Ko than Whitner, but would not want any of them sooner than r2. More and more I am thinking we'll see a CB, LB, or OT at 24 rather than a S or a DL
GROIIIDayton
TJJackson is right. Although I still think a DE, DT is possible just not likely. If Bunkley, or Lawson fall I think we would grab them.
Wraith
Put me down as a 1. Jason Allen2. Donte Whittner3. Bernard Pollard4. Ko Simpson5. Pat Watkinsguy. I have concerns about Simpson because he simply has not played that much football, and I have heard rumblings that he isn't that smart...an issue in the pros much more than college. I like Allen because he is a leader, he is fast can play FS or Nickel CB, he's smart, has good hands, and most of all he's a football nut...a recipe I also liked with both Odell and Pollack (Pollack will be awesome next year write it down).Bunkley is going to be long gone by #24 at this rate he is Dwayne Robertson of a couple years ago, heck he might even slide ahead of Ngata. There are going to be GREAT safeties at 55, again (broken record I know) if Lawson is there at #24 TAKE HIM! Exact same situation as Pollack last year a player who had no business dropping past #15 in the 20's.
kingwilly
totally agree, Wraith....add bullocks to your Safety list, though.
kentjett
I hate Michigan fans, they have no respect for other teams. Whitner seems like he is in on every play. I'm a big OSU fan and I'll be the first to tell you that Mike Doss was the most overrated OSU player to enter the draft in the last 10 years and he is still a good player. Whitner has a lot more range and is a overall better player. He is consistent. Doss had a killer junior year and failed to even come close to repeating it his senior year. TJJackson
Lawson is a DE who will probably need to play LB in the NFL. He certainly would if drafted by the BengalsDoes this remind you of anyone? Anyone at all? Anyway, that makes him a project. We can and will draft project players, but as an 11-5 team with serious Superbowl possibilities, we won't be taking projects in R1 or R2, and probably not in R3.I like Lawson. I really do. But not on a team where we just drafted and ar developing a similar player last year. Not on a team where our starting linebackers may all have 2 years or less experience. ArmyBengal
I'm not saying some team won't make Lawson a LB in a 3-4 set, but his build is not to dissimilar to that of Freeney when he was drafted and Lawson has the frame to add more weight. That being said, I think he could still be a huge DE for some team in great need of one !!! I think we fit that description !!!I would also not be objecting a possiblity of Pollack doing more DE if we draft a LB. Not saying that will or should happen, just making a comment...WHODEY !!! cincy9275
out of all the buckeyes that will be left when we draft i would rather pick carpenter over everyone but hawk and Holmes . carpenter is a beast he can rush the passer and drop in to coverage and stop the run but with his pro day he might be gone as well but if not he is my choice for the first round pick . no question marks good kid a lot of upside with Simmons age and pollacks inexperience and the addition of Dexter he just makes the most sense to me and he could start at the beginning of next season .
