walzav29
I think it is hands down the area in which the Bengal's need the most improvment. It's hard to say really. I'm just trying to see what I should root for in the draft.
Stripes
I'm not sure if there's really a right answer to that question. Our starting unit at defensive tackle is bad, and our depth at safety is even worse. So it becomes a question of "What's more important? Getting a penetrating force into the DT rotation, or adding a good SS in effort to prevent last year's Ohalete debacle?"We need both about equally in my mind. One could also make a strong argument for defensive end... We had a terrible pass rush last season, and the ends are the catalysts of such. Perhaps someone like Kiwi or a free agent like Trevor Pryce could be added to put Geathers back in his original situational role and free up Justin Smith to play more to his potential. HoosierCat
I would argue DT over SS in the draft, for two reasons: one, SS is a lot easier and cheaper to fill in FA; and two, we already have at least one stud in the safety ranks in Madieu, while our DT rotation lacks any standout. ArmyBengal
I would say DT in the first ONLY if Bunkley is there due to the facts we won't get Ngata and no one else is close to being a first rounder. Safety can be had in the 2nd, but wouldn't mind Ko Simpson or maybe Whitner. If neither Bunkley or an impact Safety is there, I think the pick will be a pass rush specialist DE. Hali, Kiwi, or name your other would work here. After that, maybe an impact TE, but doubt it...WHODEY !!!
walshfan
I have to agree with Joisey on this one.....We have Williams at safety and if worse came to worse KK and Williams isnt that bad...Our Dline is not good.... Improvement has to be made for the backers and Ends to be more effective....more penetration up the middle and someone that can clog blockers is a must imo..... TJJackson
I'll add that a good DL will tend to have more effect on a team's run defense than a good S, even a good SS.

We have less depth at safety, but less front-line talent at DT. There are more S available in FA, but fewer DT available in the draft where the Bengals pick. Sounds like a wash, take whichever one falls.
TJJackson
also, it has to be a DT since we won't draft a SS -- remember, Marvin only uses 2 versatile safeties, not SS and FS

I've decided I want us to pick a DT in round 1 if Bunkley falls to us, otherwise grab a good DE or SS. In round 2 we can grab a safety or a TE. ShulaSteakhouse
They will address both in FA or the Draft, and it will all depend on who's available and whom they come across.I would think a 1st round d or o-lineman is more likely, and a capable SS could be had in FA or the 2nd round. (like Madeiu) Guess it depends if Marvin feels he needs another veteran at safety, or if he can trust a 2nd round rookie and a 3rd year player back there. I'm sure Tory will have competition for his job as well somehow.
bengalsLB
i have Doubts we get a Shot at bunkly with how good his combine was but i think we can get a good DT in the second ir third as long as we get one on Day 1 i will be happy, now there are only 2 Safetys that are worth taking at our Pick that fits Marvins philosopy on Safetys Donte Whitner and Ko Simpson both of whom i would be glad to get. i don't know why but i have a gut feeling that Marvin will reach and take DE Darryl Tapp in the first
Spain
The DTs will be gone. the top teir TEs,CB,S,CB,G will be there when we pic. I wouldnt mind moving down.
Sox
I want a pass rusher that can bring consistant pressure from the front four.I'm tired of no pass rush unless there's a blitz.A guy I like that no one seems to be talking about is Kamerion Wimbley, DE Florida St.

Most there seem enamored with Manny Lawson, but in my opinion Wimbley is a far better DE prospect. He's got more athletic upside, has a more complete package of pass rush moves, and could add weight just as easily as Lawson. Not sure about the fit though with an undersized Pollack already on the roster.
Whur CHad At?
Personally, I would just like us to draft a defensive player who could start right away. Preferbally, Ko Simpson
