So teams and agents can’t do anything until they know what is what. For instance, Jeff Nalley, the agent for Bengals tight end Matt Schobel, has been told the club could re-sign him back if the cap goes to $102 million but not if it sticks at $94.5 million.

“He loves it in Cincinnati. He’d like to come back because he loves playing for Marvin,” Nalley said. “But they’ve told him they probably couldn’t afford to pay him if the cap stays because they’re looking for a quarterback and defense. But if it moves up, we’ll see.”

Schobel is in the same category as backup linebacker Marcus Wilkins, one of the Bengals’ top special teamers. Schobel is going to get more play, but both are unrestricted fourth-year free agents who won’t be able to sample the uncapped year because they would bec

We can do better. Let him go elsewhere no matter what the cap ends up being.

If we get lewis, pope or davis :P I woulden't mind losing him but if we took TE in 3rd round I woulden't mind keeping him for depth for league min

We gotta bring back JJ though only player I think this year is a must return :P

Nothing against Schobel but I can think of a lot better things to do with an extra $7-8 million in cap space.

There should be a special category for threads generated by quotes from agents.

Jeff Nalley is a smart man. He knows his client's going to lose his job and he's trying to make it sound like it was for salary cap reasons. Nice try.

Give San Diego a call, Jeff. I hear they're looking for a good pass-catching TE.

Just pencil me in as one of the people SICK of watching Schobel drop passes that hit him in the hands. I'll take the third round TE available and call it even. Well, come to think of it, we'd save money, so BUH BYE Schobel !!!

This must be what it's like when you hear someone is dating your ex-wife. The news is interesting, but you still don't want her back.

I give myself the off topic here---> :offtopic:

It wasn't interesting to hear someone was dating my ex-wife, it was disturbing and I felt utter sadness for that poor guy. He had no idea what he was getting himself into !!! Psycho comes to mind very quickly !!! :death:

Oh yeah, Schobel can hit the bricks !!!

Have fun in Canada this year Schobel :)

He will be on an NFL roster. His speed at the TE position will earn him a job somewhere in the nfl.

Agreed. He may have been a lower end starter, but he was a starter nonetheless (well not technically behind Kelly, but you know)... He'd still make good depth for any team as a tight end.

I think someone said it before, but I will say it again.

I think they may just passs on the TE position all around. I wouldn't be upset be that direction, as I think the defense should be the main priority on day one at a minimum.

That's about how it went last year... Everyone was still shouting about grabbing a tight end and we didn't draft one in any round. Then again, that may be reason to think it is more likely this year after other defensive needs were covered last year.
