BengalChamps Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 As per Hobson's article:The mock draft of Scouts Inc., has the Bengals taking Wroten at No. 24, but that probably won’t happen if Georgia tight end Leonard Pope is available, as he is in their scenario. Also in the same article:If one of the pass rushers fell. . .but it never happens. Another quote:After selecting four First Day backers in the last two drafts, it just doesn’t look like it’s going to happen at No. 24 this trip. And:One of these days, the Bengals are going to take a cornerback in the first round and play him there. It hasn’t happened yet, but the odds are with them now. What the Bengals definitely know is they want size. They only want to see 6-foot corners (or close to it), and Zemaitis (6-1) and Youboty (6-1) qualify. Scouts Inc. puts Youboty No. 24 on its big board of 32 as its third and last corner. Sounds like Marvin is focusing on a TE or CB in the the 1st. I have been touting Pope. I would love to see Polamolu trying to tackle of stay with that HUGE TE!As much as I hate to say it, we have to focus on our individual matchups with the Squeelers. Pope would definately occupy Polamalu's thoughts, and he would be less inclined to roam around the field. If we could steal Hope away, that would help to address our safety needs. And hurt the Squeelers. In a game of chess you have to control the middle of the board. And in football too. Control the middle of the field. We can do that with Pope on offense and Hope on Defense.I WANT POPE AND HOPE! Quote
schweinhart Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 I WANT POPE AND HOPE! Sounds good -- literally. Quote
Stripes Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Pope and Hope would be just great. I'd be more pleased with stealing him away from Pittsburgh than adding him to our roster. Pope would be a perfect fit in this offense. Good stuff. Quote
turningpoint Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 How about Pope and Tank?i don;t want another lB, tank doesn't fit this system one bit. Quote
Kazkal Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Hopfully pop will turn out better then stevens though I like stevens(seahawks TE) but jeaus he drops alot of balls... Would be happy with pope, davis in 1st lewis in 2nd and day in the 3rd Quote
WretchedOne Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 I think our offense is already potent enought to handle the Steelers. With so many good TE's one will be available in the 3rd.A team will be looking to get Pope 60-70 balls a year, and we just don't have that many to go around. While the Henry fiasco took away some of our speed at WR, we still have Chris Perry who can line up as a WO. Kevin Walter has always been solid. Tab Perry may have the largest role in all of this and depeding on what they want to do with him (i.e. WR or Saftey) it will factor into where we are heading. We need to focus more on stopping Pitts offense. Not letting them run all over us. Not letting them convert 3rd down. Not letting them pull 3 "trick" plays on us in a game. The best place to start is getting a pass rush, cause I dont' about you, but I'm sick to DEATH of watching us give Benny all that time.1st round DE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
kentjett Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 David Pollack should play DE. Whenever he lines up on the end, he gets to the QB. People say he is to small but he is 6'2" 255 lbs and Freeney is 6'1" and 265 lbs. LB's are easier to find then great pass rushers. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Yeah, Hobs has been strongly suggesting that TE (and specifically Pope) is the call. I remain ambivalent about TE in the first, for reasons I went int elsewhere a while back and which Marvin raised in his recent comments on TE, namely that there aren't enough balls to go around. And when we're already, what, No. 3 or 4 in the league in scoring, versus being on the butt-end of the league on D...man, that's tough.Nothing against Pope or Davis or Lewis, I think they'll all be fine players, and if we end up taking one of them, I can live with it. But I''d prefer a CB or DT or DE, even if it means a bit of a reach or taking someone with "questions." Quote

Defense is a much higher priority. But if they're genuine about their best player available in the 1st philosophy, then it could happen. Quote
turningpoint Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Only reason iwant Pope more so then anything, cause IMo it would be an immediate redzone impact....if it's 2nd and 7 we don;t have to worry about chad being doubel covered or them stacking up the run....imagine a 2 wide set on 2nd down, with pope in at TE, tj and chad lined up at WR, and rudi in the back field.there is no way they can cover all that....pope could just find then open zone, carson throw a jump balls and pope just has to go up and grab the damn thing..think dallas vs SF in the 1982 NFC championship.Montana to CLARK! TD! Quote
TJJackson Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Who is Gillis? What is his first name, his position, his school - give me something to identify who it is you are talking about Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Who is Gillis? What is his first name, his position, his school - give me something to identify who it is you are talking aboutHe is talking about Max-Jean Gillis, a guard from Georgia. He is huge, but def. won't be a first rounder by any means. He prob. won't be a second rounder either. It is just Spain being Spain.I kind of hope we sign Tank or Hope, becuase I am liking the idea more and more of drafting a TE first round/second round. Quote
TJJackson Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Oh, I see, he keeps mis-spelling the fellow's nameIt's Gilles, not Gillishttp://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...jeangilles.htmlThat said, he may well go in late r1 for all I know, but not the the Bengals. If the Bengals take an OL, it'll be a LT, not a OG Quote
Spain Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 first of all , Marvin said we aint going TE. He said there arent enough balls to go around. someone is lying. The writer or Marvin. This looks like a smoke screen. Sorry boys did my mock and Gilles is the BPA. Him and andrews will be the right side for years to come. He can also play Tackle like Bach. Giving versatility to the line. Ask yourself how many 4th and one we made then decide if this isnt a great pick. Palmer will be protected and our runing game will finally be able to win games. With Palmer being out till god knows when the running game is going to have to carry this d. Ask your self did we need Perry. No but we took the BPA. the other guy on my radar is FB Bernstein the guy would be like an extra gaurd on the power O. He would be a great fit here. I doubt we draft a TE till the second day. Its just not a big priority in this O. With WR now a problem we might see an all o draft on the first day. Quote
TJJackson Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 we might see an all o draft on the first day....and this is a classic reminder of why I pretty much don't listen to anything Spain has to say Quote
Stripes Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Sorry boys did my mock and Gilles is the BPA.I assume this is the central point of your post, and will word my rebuttal accordingly...You may very well be correct that Gilles will be the best player available, but I doubt Marvin and crew will see it the same way. There is so much defensive or tight end talent available, that with any of it still on the board, it would seem to me an obvious choice over Gilles. I may be wrong here, but wasn't O-line one of the three things Marvin said would not be a priority in the first round? I'll go by his word there. Quote

Spain Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 OK guys as far as drafts go they never go the way mocks go. This guy is larry Alien all over again. Whne all those deep D guys are gone this guy will be in the probowl. The only reason he will fall is beause he is a gaurd, Gaurds are underrated. Lets see Bach fell to the second. why because he was a gaurd. He still had one hell of an impact. Levi,Bach, Ghiachac,Gilles,Andrews. Get used to it. The D talent isnt going to fall to 24. While I could see marvin trading down but this guy is in the scopes. Not making one fourth and one can kill you. On top of that he can play tackle. The guy is Warren sapp on the O line. He will be sitting there, who else is going to fall that would have that kind of impact? We dont even need him now. Bobbie can hold down the spot while he learns. Also yes they said they would consider O line if the right guy was there. I just happen to feel this is the guy. He will be the BPA.com Quote
andybren Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 Sorry boys did my mockSo when are you going to be posting your first round? It seems the football world needs to be educated because NOBODY has the Bengals picking an O-lineman. Quote
Spain Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 Nobody had Keiwan,Perry, M. Williams, However they worked out well. Ill post the players that willm be gone if you want? Quote

Part of the BPA philosophy that you're so high on is getting value for your pick. You don't pick second or third round guys in the first round. Quote
Spain Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 We might trade down, like the Perry pick. Is what I was referring to. Marvin drafts the BPA, things are like they are! Quote
