  1. For a man with a heart of a pig, you make a good point :-)

Given the choice in football between two equally talented defenders, I favor the bigger one, because the bigger ones start closer to the football. I see us winning more games than we lose when we control the line of scrimmage, and of course, to even say so is tired and well-trod ground

So yeah, all else being equal, Id rather see us take a linebacker than a corner or safety if all else seems equal.

Let us not forget that we lost another linebacker - Marcus Wilkins - to free agency and draftees are typically called upon to play special teams. I can see us drafting at least one and as many as three linebackers in the upcoming draft. Honestly.

  2. I agree that Landry will be long gone, but I think we have a realistic shot at Houston.

Funny how that works  I'm not holding my breath just yet but I think the Bengals could still have a realistic chance at Jamaal Anderson. For all the sudden hype on him that shot him up in the media to a Top 10 pick, he ain't done nothing since. And teams will keep reviewing the game tape and they'll see some things that will make them wonder just how great he really is right now....not that he isn't the FREAKBEAST but he's been somewhat overrated IMO. Teams picking in the Top 10 will want the surest player they can find because busts are increasingly harder to bear and Jamaal Anderson is not a sure thing.

I doubt we take a DE in r1 simply due to the dollars just recently invested in Justin Smith and Robert Geathers.

I'm not saying I'd hate that pick, not at all, just see it as unlikely.

  3. actually, this is a very definite possibility.

first, he was another of the arrested players

second, his play level dropped tremendously over last year's performance

third, his cap numbr is relatively small - we traded for him, and so the Broncos ate the signing bonus portion, all we had was salary

finally, I keep hearing word (Nothing confirmed, all vague and not detailed, sorry) that his head is not in the game anymore, and he has started to let himself go physically as a result.

So it'd still be a surprise to me if they let him go anytime soon, but it would not be (imho) the shocker the original poster seems to feel it would be

  4. There's no risk. Play him

Naah, there's plenty of risk in bringing him back in

First off, management risks coming off with the message "It's OK if you do drugs. We'll take you back in a jif, as soon as you do your suspension" and thus damaging the rest of the team

Second, any practice time Odell is given eats into the practice time that woudl go to his replacement. If you are 100% certain he' won't last the year, cut or trade him, and spend the money and time on developing his replacement

Third, Odell drags teammates along with him, pulling them into his world of substance abuse. You don't need a bad player creating bad situations for you other players.

Finally, Marvin has made it clear he's DONE with this fellow. If management says "no, you have to take him back" they stand to severely alienate Marvin.

  5. I think worse case scenario, actually, is a RB, OL, or QB in round 1

I don't see offense in the first as a real possibility.

Agreed - reason I wrote what I did was that the priginal poster noted that the pick of the WR in question would be a worst case scenario for the Bengals -- I was saying "no, it'd be even worse than that worse if we picked a RB, OL, or QB"

  6. FWIW: Good deal. Koo is a solid player and frankly I haven't seen Andrews show me he's better. Especially with Steiny apparently gone, this is a good move.

Agreed and agreed, but I found myself wondering when we were playing 3 backup offensive linemen, why Kooistra STILL wasn't being played. They did play Stacey ahead of him.....and it wasn't just to get him reps....they needed those games....

  7. Great, another opportunity for certain posters here to defend the turd-like credibility of PFT.

    Any takers this time? <_<

If past history is any guide then this rumor will be followed up a few minutes later by a disclaimer, then repeated as if it were gospel, then discounted as lunacy, propped up yet again, and then at some point allowed to fade away....replaced by a downpour of cell phone ads.

As long as the original poster makes it quite clear in the subject of the thread that the source is PFT in a manner like this

--Marvin to become the next Cowboy's head coach [PFT]

--Marvin welcomes back Odell Thurman with a kiss and a hug [uTTER CRAP]

--(etc etc, these are all the same to me, more or less identical)

then I am fine with it, personally.

  8. I see losing hm for September as the "best case scenario"

It is not out of the question that he will be suspended for the year. I'd say this is certainly not as likely as 4-6 games, but remains a possibility, especially considering that the commissioner by now has to be thinking about setting an example

But that's just the initial suspension, and makes the assumption that no more legal troubles arise *and* that he meets all the terms of all the court decisions to date. As pointed out by Mr Steakhouse, there is a better than even chance he won't (given his gangsta-wannabe lifestyle) be able to meet these terms, and ergo will face added suspension time

I'd feel better about it if I got any sense he had given any hint of contrite-ness, but to date, there's been nothing

  9. Underrated

Tab Perry, Kenny Watson, Ethan Kilmer, Kevin Kaesviharn, and the recently departed Rich "Buckethead" Braham

    Overrated

Madieu - was not the impact player in 2006 he was in 2004

Fat Sam - just watch him waddle off the field

Big Willy - great player and human being, but his best games are behind him.

Rudi - fan favorite who is starting to fumble, little or no breakaway ability
