Becton is an injury waiting to happen. I would have been so excited to have drafted him and more disappointed to see the outcome. I don’t care if you are 6’7, carrying nearly 370 pounds around isn’t a good option when your knees are made of glass. Him and Eifert are probably related.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m also good with the double tag scenario. Might not be the best approach, but makes a shit ton of sense financially. That being said, I still would move on that offer should it ever be presented.

Switching back Higgins for a minute… I’ve seen talk of The Jags being interested in teaming him back up with Lawrence, his college QB. The thought is it would cost them #17 overall to make the deal. Here’s where I am with that thought… Do it. Take OT JC Latham and WR Brian Burns. You get a Tee replacement with an option for a 5th year and drop the $22 million hit to the cap. With Ridley leaving for the Titans, it makes it more feasible. Not saying it’s a certainty, but I’m all in.

Hill played nickel CB for a time while at Michigan, so I don’t think a move to CB is an issue. Not only that, Bengals coaches commented when he was drafted that he’s built like a CB and covers like one, but has great range like a safety. Even Hill commented when drafted about wanting to play both spots. Honestly I’m excited about the thought. Bell coming back is solid for leadership and depth, if nothing else.

I’m torn on Rankins had been inconsistent through his career, but had a solid season last year with the Texans. Preferably, they still bring Reader back with him, Rankins and Hill. That’s a nice rotation. Hoping… Yes, solid offseason for sure.

Well the Chargers situation was easily rectified on their part and uneventful for everyone else.

We got their 7th, and they trade a guy for a 7th in return. Why didn't we just trade Mixon for Collins? Guess the Bengals didn't want him, but yeah, I wouldn't have minded.

A WR that I will be watching to see what happens with him is Keon Coleman. He ran a slow 40 at the combine. I think a 4.6 if I remember correctly. However, it has been noted that he had the fastest speed during the gauntlet drill hitting 20.3 mph. It goes back to asking how many times does a WR run only in a straight line during a game? I will keep eyes on if he falls or not. A WR I am absolutely amped about is Brian Thomas from LSU. Absolute stud.

This is what I was talking about the other day with them paying two WR's top of the market deals. Look at those numbers. The cap going up surely didn't help them as those contracts aged and that is usually a reason given. The talk these days is that the Jefferson's and Chase's of the WR world are going to see contract that "could" hit $30m per year. They have two guys NOT named Jefferson and Chase both slotted at more than $32m for 2024. That's simple unsustainable. I said getting rid of them is a need, not necessarily a want. Pretty much yep.

There are still a few teams over the cap, which they have to be compliant with by 4pm today, with the Chargers in absolute cap hell. It should be interesting to see if any players of interest hit the market. Maybe there's another trade opportunity in there.

With bringing back Sample on a 3 year deal and the addition of Gesicki, I think that lowers the possibility of a TE early on. No RT and no DT signing in free agency, despite the effort tells me those are going to be the top targets. Obviously, I could be wrong, but as a fan, I think the team is in a better place at Safety, Tight End, and maybe even RB then we were a week ago. The Mixon, Moss trade off remains to be clear, but certainly Safety and TE. As always though, the question that is always relevant... Who else is on the board? Won't be long until we get to see.

Makes me wonder what the Bengals know about his injury that isn't being said.

Regarding no signing of any RT’s and the thought that all the “good ones” are gone, my thought has always been that none of them were really any good. The kid from New England would have been an average option but he went back. If there was a year to take a RT in the draft, this is it.

I guess it's just perspective. All better than average teams go through this. If you have a bunch of stellar players, sooner or later you won't be able to afford them all. I never expected Boyd to be back, although I would have no issues with him returning. I expected Higgins to the odd man out when considering both Burrow and Chase extensions. I advocated for dumping Mixon (at his current salary) last year, before he took the pay cut which impacted last year and this year. Higgins "might" have netted a 3rd round comp pick at best after his departure next year. Getting two 2nd's (probably won't happen) would be the far better option to him walking and us get what amounts to zip. Trading him also frees up that $22 million, which could be used in other areas. Hell, they could bring back Boyd with that savings, plus draft a new WR. It's not to say it couldn't all blow the fuck up and kill 2024, but I try to remain optimistic in Burrow's ability to win.

Higgins... When looking at the Panthers picks, I can see why they don't want to give up their two 2nd round picks. Since they gave up their first in selecting Bryce Young, they wouldn't make a pick until pick #65. They gave up their 1st and 2nd last year, their 1st this year, their 2nd next year, along with DJ Moore. Now facing their two 2nd rounders to get Higgins? Total that up for a second and look at it. Two first round picks, four 2nd round picks and a true #1 WR go out the door. Their return "would be" Young and Higgins. That's 6 high end picks for an underachieving QB and changing WR's. OUCH !!! That being said, if I'm the Bengals, I would stick to my guns on those two 2nd round picks. #33 and #39 isn't a bad thought when looking at some of the holes that still exist. However, one of those would need to fill the loss of Higgins. I'm lukewarm on that one...

Mixon... I woke up and still don't care for the move in the grand scheme of things. The cap going up 30 million allowed them to cover his salary, which was manageable when looking at some of the other RB deals. While I will agree that Mixon wasn't always on his game, he was still producing and was a LARGE part of this offense. I assume they are looking at his stats and figure had he started more than 8 games, his numbers would have surpassed Mixon's and he was playing in an offense led by Gardner Minshew. I don't necessarily disagree, but it's speculative. I will be rooting hard for Moss and Brown to make a nice 1-2 punch in the backfield. I will thank Mixon for his time here and will miss seeing him at the local high school football games. He would typically have another guy, like Tee, in tow with him and were always great with the kids and parents. Hope he goes to the Texans so I can root for him some more. Good luck Mix !!!

Funny because I told my son, right after hearing about his release, that Mixon would be a great pickup for the Texans. They lost Singletary earlier in the day.

The Bengals sign Zack Moss to a 2 year deal and release Mixon. They bet Moss for two years what they were paying Mixon this year. Wow

The Bengals better hurry up and make up their mind about Reader. DT’s are drying up quick and his market is going to heat up if for no other reason than limited options.

Back to Tee… Who the fuck is Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports claiming: “In terms of a trade package, Schultz said it was his “understanding” that it would take a second or third-round NFL Draft pick to get Higgins.” Really? Well his understanding equals shit. I couldn’t care less about what some other team has to pay in an extension. You don’t give away what most think is a true #1 WR, for a bag of stale chips from Chipotle. Tee has produced in both the regular season and post season and has two 1000 yard seasons playing as a #2. Get the fuck out of here Schultz !!

Add ADG to the massive list of free agents next year. Glad he’s back though.
