Saints Fan in Austin
Apparently, the Bengals have picked up one of the Saints cuts, CB David Jones from Wingate. He can really cover, but, he misses tackles. Great size for a corner. If you're able to develop him, you guys just got a really solid corner. Not sure who you guys dropped to get him. Ox
Bengals make more movesThe Bengals this afternoon waived three players -- cornerback Blue Adams, rookie offensive lineman Dan Santucci and tailback Quincy Wilson -- and signed three players off waivers. The teams signed cornerback David Jones (Saints), tailback Clifton Dawson (Colts) and linebacker Anthony Schlegel (Jets).Jones is a rookie from Wingate and was the Saints fifth-round pick in the 2007 draft. Dawson was a rookie free agent from Harvard signed by the Colts in the spring. And Schegel was a third-round Jets draft pick from Ohio State in 2006. He played in four games as a rookie with New York and had one special teams tackle. The Bengals signed seven players to their practice squad, as well: wide receiver Bennie Brazell, safety John Busing, tight end Tim Day, guard Nate Livings, fullback Chris Manderino, defensive tackle Matt Toeaina and offensive tackle Dane Uperesa. In addition, three players waived (injured) Saturday have cleared waivers and reverted to the team’s Reserve/Injured list — kicker Aaron Elling and cornerbacks Brandon Williams and T.J. Wright.http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/benga...-more-moves.asp

Green 66
Another kid from the SAC cool. My undergrad was from a school in the SAC which has produced several players in recent years which for a Division II conference is kinda cool for a bunch of little private schools in the mountians. Hopefully he works hard and learns to tackle better making a roster spot worthwhile.Mike Green Tusculum College 2001

TJJackson
I really don't like the linebacker we picked up....Schlegel..... short, lacks athleticism, speed, and ability to drop into coverage....I know we needed to add a linebacker but this ain't the guyThe running back suprises me, I thought they'd pick up an established name like Wali Lundy or maybe a lesser known RB from a division rival like Pittsburgh, or at least a team we play this year. If you told me they'd pick up a RB from Indy, I'd have thought it'd be DeDe.The Saints fans seem to really like the CB we picked up...apparently covers extremely well even despite his lack of great timed speed....he could supplant Keiwan in short orderhttp://www.saintsreport.com/forums/showthread.php?p=617251I think kicker will be a last second pickup, if at all. If on Friday morning he can't kick w/o pain, they'll fly in kickers - probably give the former UC guy a try as well
BengalszoneBilly
If you told me they'd pick up a RB from Indy, I'd have thought it'd be DeDe.As did I. IMHO he'll be a good pickup for someone!

He's a downhill type, aggressive, hard-hitting, sheds blocks...but no he isn't particularly quick or fast. Look for him as a situational rusher and special teamer. BengalszoneBilly
BTW, I think the reason the Bengals didn't go after Dorsey was because he was arrested in January earlier this year for gun charges (concealed gun, loaded and didn't have a permit). IMHO it has to be the reason why the Bengals aren't touching him!
HoosierCat
Looking at Saints, Colts and Jets fan boards, the consensus seems to be:Jones: $%#@! &^%$#@ Bengals!Dawson: Darn.Schlegal: Don't let the door hit you in a$$ on the way out! Bobcat Bengal
I really don't like the linebacker we picked up....Schlegel..... short, lacks athleticism, speed, and ability to drop into coverage....I know we needed to add a linebacker but this ain't the guyAnthony Schlegel LB Ohio ST StrengthsAnthony is an excellent head up, wrap up, squeeze and drive tackler. He has excellent size and looks to have good speed. He has really good football instincts and has a great burst. Anthony shows good leadership skills and excellent mental toughness. This kid's face should be in the dictionary next to the word "linebacker" with no explanation needed. Needs to ImproveDon’t be a putz! Just draft this kid -- any improvements that he needs, he will do or minimize by instincts and brains. Bottom LineThis kid is a pure linebacker. Recently, I saw him play with even more athleticism in his game than I thought he had. That leads me to believe that he's been playing injured, but still playing at a high level. That’s what you need when you draft a leader, especially at the LB position. The last game I have on tape, he does one of the smoothest hip-flips and gets back in coverage as good as any strong safety I've seen. This was the one question I had with Anthony’s game. How good would he be in defending the pass and could he stay on the field for all three downs? Originally I felt that Anthony was a 3-4 DE/LB. But that hip-flip made me realize that Anthony is a LB that can fit into any system and be an impact LB. If he's healthy and works out as well as I think at the combine, you're going to see him shoot up in this draft. He has 1st round talent. From now on, when we see a player make a head up, wrap up, squeeze and drive bone-jarring tackle, we're going to say that someone just got Schlegeled! This kid reminds me a lot of Mike Vrabel, but believe it or not, I think he's a little more athletic. The Patriots are going to be drooling when they see this kid on film. bengalboomer7
As an avid OSU fan I always thought highly of Schlegel. Extremely hard nosed, downhill type of guy. A really solid player I always thought

HoosierCat
So what happened to Matt Muncy?I'm disappointed to see him go.......Looks like they want to spend the PS slot on Santucci. But I'll bet you a dozen donuts that if Muncy still wants to play he'll be back on the squad next offseason. And Wright's on IR...we'll get a Bobcat on this squad yet... markymark69
As an avid OSU fan I always thought highly of Schlegel. Extremely hard nosed, downhill type of guy. A really solid player I always thoughtI agree with your assessment. For what they will want out of Schlegel I see it as a good pick. Don't know much about the other guys, but if the Saints are upset about Jones not being on their team any longer, that could be a good sign. Although they probable overvalue their players like everybody else does.
Tasher
Considering how our receivers torched the Saints secondary last year, if Jones could not make their squad with his 'exceptional' cover skills, that leaves a LOT of questions in my mind.Course OUR own secondary was not the most stellar in coverage either as I now seem to recall. Oh, well, we shall see how it plays out. We certainly do not have the most healthy bunch on the 53...

ArmyBengal
I remember Schlegel (sp) as well and always thought he was a better than average LB. That being said, I never followed his production once he was drafted so I have no idea how he did at the next level... I to feel bad for Quincey, I always liked having him around if something happened to Rudi.WHODEY !!!

Spor_tees
First off, Shlegel is an ex-buckeye, and Mike Brown has a hard on for ex-buckeyes. Secondly, Shlegel is a leader and very smart. Before playing for Ohio State, he was at the Air Force Academy where he was a captain on the football team as a FRESHMAN. Boy how nice would it be to have that Ohio State linebacking class right now of AJ Hawk, Bobby Carpenter, and Shlegel?
