Just for the record, I don't have any problem with anything Sherman said or how he said it. You walk the walk, you get to talk the talk.

Agree about Bayliss. He's a world class douche nozzle.

Sherman has some personal stuff with Crabtree, so that's coming out. More to the story, I suppose...

I saw last night on Fox news (my mother in law tunes in for her daily dose of hate) and saw where they were talking about how Sherman said the use of the word "thug" is an acceptable way to call someone the "N" word. Then there was a great debate among the rich white announcers. I just couldn't turn it off. (see trainwreck)

To be honest I don't care what Sherman says or thinks. As for words that people cant say, where in the heck did all the freedom in America go? Seems like he is pretty thin skinned for the best CB in the NFL.

Freedom of speech protects you from being persecuted by the government.

All we have here is a debate. With opinions. And assholes talking about their opinions.

Sherman has a 3.7 GPA and a master's degree from Stanford. He's far from a thug.

Is he an asshole? Maybe. But then look at how many assholes who run this country that we look at as "smart".

I retracted that term in an earlier post cincy, not because of the ridiculous racist accusations, but because I haven't seen any behavior to warrant that accusation.

Also, I have no clue about any of the colleges but I do know that many of them have been caught with NCAA violations, pampering and allowing key athletes to be held to different standards than the rest of the body.

I'm not saying that Sherman benefited from that whatsoever, but don't think for a minute that ALL athletes graduate with truly 'earned' GPAs.

Beyond that, most of the arrogant sand paper people that I've run across in my 60 years, are mostly pretty intelligent!

There are idiots and then there are intelligent people that act like idiots. Sherman seems to fall into the second category.

When you get a graduate degree you are doing something right. There's no reason that the staff at Stanford would escort him through a master's program for the sake of his football career.

As I said in my post, I have no clue about Stanford or any 'particular' college as far as NCAA violations, and I am not 'accusing' Stanford of any violation.

What I AM saying is that there ARE schools that we DO know about that HAVE committed these type of violations ONLY because they somehow slipped up and got caught!

Sports programs in colleges bring some serious revenue into their budget!

My point was that let us not be naive enough to think it DOESN'T go on somewhere in some of the schools as we speak. They just haven't gotten caught yet.

I agree that some schools go out of their way for the student athletes and sometimes WAY above.

That being said, I can only see them looking the other way so much when it's concerning an undergraduate degree.

When you start talking about Master's level work, I can't see that being the case ever.

I would say the percentages of that happening at that level, go way down Army, but with the decline of moral standards and values today, NOTHNG surprises me anymore!!

Not much surprises me anymore, but being a person currently in my Master's level work, there's simply NO WAY anyone can get around what needs to be done.

I can't say that's the case in undergraduate work though and wouldn't be surprised in the least to see that happen.

Just to give a little bump.

Oddly enough, the more I've heard Sherman talk recently, the less irritated I am with him.

I usually tune out people that irritate me, but I have given him a listen when little else was going on and he's not as bad as what people make it out to be.

He doesn't come across as a thug or unintelligent, but seems brash and maybe a little arrogant.

Then again, isn't that what you want your CB's to be while being able to back it up ??

Can't say he's my favorite NFL player, but I think the fans of whatever team he plays for have less concern.

Maybe we can find our Sherman in the upcoming draft. We need one.

I heard a foreign reporter ask him something like: You athletes all go to strip clubs and make it rain. What do you think you are doing to these young women who think they have to be strippers?

Sherman said first of all I don't go to strip clubs and make it rain, second of all my message to young women is that with education and hard work you can build a good career, no need at all to be a stripper.

He's a good human being who taps into a brash, aggressive component of his personality when he's between the lines.

I don't follow these players that aren't Bengals so I have nothing to say either way, because I have no clue. I only saw the one interview after the game with San Fran. But I do know this, in a team sport, it's okay to be a beast on the field, whether you are Pete Rose in baseball or Vontaze Burfict in football. But when the game is over, 90% of the time, it is detrimental to have a player say, especially before a national audience, that they are the best outfielder in MLB, linebacker in the NFL, etc whether you back it up or not!

Why do I believe that? One, because I experienced it in my coaching days, and secondly, it makes it less about team and more about the individual!

Boxing, wrestling, tennis, bowling, and golf it's a different story because there IS ONLY you!

That locker room chemistry comes from having the Burficts and Whitworths who are beasts on the field, but humble men off the field.

That's just my opinion and how I see it from my sports background. You can agree to disagree with respect as I have done. ;)

It's hard for me to say where to draw that line.

When they are talking about their sport, I imagine they are in that "mode" and conduct themselves in whatever manner that looks like.

The only example I can give, attempting to relate, is when I was in the Army.

When I put my uniform on, I was Sergeant ArmyBengal. I was intense and for the most part a real asshole.

I wanted to be the best medic I could be and demanded the best from those around me.

I was brutal on my soldiers, but loved and helped them with the same amount passion.

When I went home and wasn't thinking about the job, I was just Mark.

Mild mannered, beer drinking, and relaxed. No harsh about anything.

However, if I got to talking about Army things, that harshness came right to the front.

Hell, I can still tap into it if I feel the situation calls for it.

My wife always said I was schitzophrenic when I was in the Army.

I can respect what you're saying Army! But there have been way too many great, great ballplayers, who were Superman on the field, and Clark Kent off the field, regardless.

We can only relate from our personal perspectives and history, as we both have done here.

On a team sport, I've seen the Divalike qualities cause animosity and negativity 90% of the time!
