membengal Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 One of the trademarks of a highly functioning Marvin Lewis defense is everyone plays, everyone makes plays, and everyone stays fresh. Up to this point we've seen too much of starters being forced to play too many downs due to the lack of depth behind them. I think that changes this season. Guys like Jeanty, Peko, Smith, Joseph, and others are going to get their reps....even if they aren't named starters. So, so on point. Well done, hof. This really cannot be stated enough, part of the problem the D had last year was that it wore down, particularly through injury attrtition in the deep secondary. Which led to breakdowns and the dreaded "big play". Depth, now up front as well, should go a long way toward fixing that problem... Quote
schweinhart Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Well, here's what's got me somehwat worried about Jeanty seeing the field Sunday.....The big play vs. the run. Larry Johnson is much the straight up runner like Willis McGooHoo of the Jills and can hit a gash in a split second, turning it upfield for way too long of a run like he had vs. the Bengals in the preseason. What I saw Jeanty do on that play was 100% botched and was the principal cause of the breakdown. The TE shifted the strong side next to Justin Smith at RDE and Jeanty lined up next to him. Jeanty got completely pinned down into Smith, which blocked Smith from being able to pursue McGoo. The hole was a mile wide made even wider by Landon Johnson getting completely stood up and walled way too far out in space to close the gash. James got shoved out of the way and when Madieu whiffed it was off to the races.I doubt that happens with Pollack in. He's much stronger than Jeanty and in short area quicker. I like Jeanty and think he can contribute in a pinch but I would guess by the time Odell returns, the Bengals may rethink how they have used Ahmad Brooks and start getting him involved at SSLB where he pretty much belongs as the backup to Pollack. HoosierCat Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Slow week, so I thought in light of this it was worth bumping this thread. From Hobsons latest letter's column:Q: Is Jeanty going to be OK to play next game, has he exceeded expectations, is he team rookie of the year material?--Tony, Bear Creek, AKTONY: Both strong-side linebacker Rashad Jeanty and Marvin Lewis think he’s got a shot at playing next week in Tampa Bay. If Jeanty’s not Bengals Rookie of the Year wouldn’t it have to be cornerback Johnathan Joseph? Or defensive tackle Domata Peko? You have to say Jeanty has exceeded expectations because the Bengals basically haven’t lost a game since he’s started in place of David Pollack. They saw him as a guy who would be very good on special teams and maybe give them a lift on some third-down situations because he had been a productive pass rusher as a CFL defensive end.But he’s been much more than that as an every-down player, and his transition from end to linebacker has been remarkable. You wonder where they’d be without him.Looks like a lot of us, incluing yours truly, were a bit off in their initial estimations. Steelers fan KimoTherapy, of all posters, was on the mark. Quote

HoosierCat Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 woot i dident post anything bad go me.Well, y'know they say there's a first time for everything... Seriously, tho, right now I have to say it's between Jackson and Jeanty as to who our best FA pickup was...and whoda thunk that?Oh, Canada, indeed. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Who'd of thunk we'd all be wishing for Rashad jeanty to get back on the field Quote
Stripes Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 When I first read the thread title, the name "Jeanty" rang a bell in my brain as a player that would be a great pickup... Obviously my brain was in the middle of a fart.CFL? Enough said. Training camp filler.Reverse psychology works wonders. Quote
HairOnFire Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Nothing will make you miss a backup LB more than watching his replacement...the 3rd stringer. The bye week couldn't have come at a better time as this team is seemingly tweaked and dinged almost everywhere, resulting in poor timing, inexperience, and problems related to lousy communication on both sides of the ball. Chaps Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Okay, if Rashad Jeanty makes the roster in 2006, feel free to call me a moron then. So I guess this would be a good time to call you a moron? CFL has a lot of quality players, just FYI. Quote
Chaps Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 What to expect. I have read about how he played in the CFL and was impressed. Even though the CFL is in no comparison to the NFL, I have liked what he has done with us this preseason so far.I personally think that he will be a sleeper this season! My only advice would be to not discount the level of talent in the CFL. You'd be pleasantly surprised. Quote
