Spain Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Hovan and Archuleta. Tese are the two guys that could come in and reall make this d. Hovan is just what we need for the run. Archuleta would be sweet with Madaeu. So who do you guys think we want ? More important do you think Fas will want to come here. If I was a player Cincy only has one ? mark that is Palmers knee. I might think twice about it with Kitna at the helm. However if your a back up QB you would love to come to Cincy, A safety would also be likely to sign here after the success the secondarey had last year. So I think guys would want to come here. You get a shot to be on one of the best teams in the leauge and fill their wholes. Im suspecting we will have a really good shot at both of these players. Quote
bengalsLB Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 raheem brock and chris hope both would be reasonably priced and would be an upgrade over whta we currently have at there positions. Quote
Stripes Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 I would be pleased with either of these signings, if the price is right. I think Hovan would end up asking for more than Marvin/Mike/Katie would ever allow. Archuleta would seem like a better possibility, and I'd love to have him in stripes. You make a good point about our secondary being attractive with all the interceptions.Other players I would like to see the Bengals pursue are Grady Jackson, Dexter Jackson, McCree from Carolina, Chris Hope, John Abraham, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Larry Tripplet, Raheem Brock and Tank Williams. Quote
Spain Posted January 22, 2006 Author Report Posted January 22, 2006 Abraham isnt getting tagged? I also think we have enough for two players with all those extensions we have to do. Just my math. Also this year I dont think marvins looking for stop gap players because we have arrived. It would only make sense to go after a couple of high priced and impact guys. Also before you say we are two cheap we have made runs at all the best players in the secondary and DT every year. We just got rejejected. This year there is no stighma. Teams wont be using us to drive up the price for other teams. They will honestly be thinking Cincy. Quote
schroomytunes Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 In this years free agency, I like 2 guys in particular:1) Ma'ake Kemoeatu-big guy for the run game, he plugs the middle2)Raheem Brock-Young DE who can put pressure on the QB.-these guys wont break the bank and will allow us to sign some of our OL to extentions. These guys give us valuable depth along the D-line and allows us to upgrade other areas early in the draft. The draft is strong at S,TE, and CB- these are areas that we definitly need to upgrade-so we need to stay away from that in FA, and get those in the draft. Use the draft to your benefit. My ideal mock:1)Ko Simpson(SS)S.Car or Darnell Bing(SS)USC---one will be there2)Jesse Mahalona(DT)Tenn or Elvis Dumervil(DE)Lou--More depth at DL3)Kai Parham(OLB)Vir or Anthony Fasano(TE)ND--both fill needsThis will be a very deep draft, so players will drop due to teams needs..If we could trade KW for a draft pick (3rd or 4th) we could gain more depth on the defensive side of the ball. A few teams that need a WR are (Sea,Den,Wash,TB,Mia,Hou) Quote
turningpoint Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 I really Adam archuleta, I think he's a playmaker, I remember always seeing highlights on SC of him making some kind of game changing play for that team.I really want to see him in Orange and black. Also I'd love to see abraham, but he's just to expensive.I'd like someone like brock or mathis. Quote
Spain Posted January 22, 2006 Author Report Posted January 22, 2006 That De will be rushing from the middle on third downs dont see us taking a DE this year are signing a superstar free agent. We just need someone that can hold up to the run. Quote
derekshank Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Archuletta will be the #1 safety FA in the NFL... so I don't expect to get him. Even if he doesn't get the franchise tag, his price will be very high. We could manage maybe McCree out of Carolina, or Chavous out of Minnesota. I'd be happy with either of these guys (although Chavous is a little old).Abraham will also be too expensive. Hovan doesn't draw double teams liek we need from a DT... and he's primarily a run stopper. We need somone to help with the pass rush. I'd be very content wit hgetting a decent SS in FA, and addressing the rest of our needs in the draft. We can use the rest of the cap to extend our O-Line.If people are really thinking we can get Maholena in the 2nd round, that is definetely what we have to do... we can draft a DE in the first round and a CB or TE in the 3rd round (maybe both if we get a 3rd round pick for KW). This of course would be ideal... giving us a good SS in FA, 2 starting D-Linemen and another CB and TE... this would give us very few holes for teams to exploit. Quote

We just need someone that can hold up to the run.thats why Brock is the best fit for us he is solid against the run and on pasrushing situations he slideded into DT to make room for robert mathias and he would do the same thing for usIn this years free agency, I like 2 guys in particular:1) Ma'ake Kemoeatu-big guy for the run game, he plugs the middle2)Raheem Brock-Young DE who can put pressure on the QB.-these guys wont break the bank and will allow us to sign some of our OL to extentions. Spain Posted January 23, 2006 Author Report Posted January 23, 2006 Agreed LB, he does seem to be a perfect fit. Also Derek that would help get the double off J Smith. We would be half way there on D line. However IF Hovan was signed that would mean the end of thorton. So discount me that money. S Smith can hold the point of attack he has proved that. With Hovan taking Thortons spot we could see a big improvement real quick. Brock coming in cheap and their is our D line. IF we get Archueleta That would be the D and you could go get pope or Max-Jean. This D needs veteran leadership you are not going to fix it with a draft. Marvin doesnt plan on starting his rookies, please remeber. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 No, no more average players...time to go out and get the big boys.I like Hovan, but only sign him for a 1-2 year deal.Tank Williams is the SS we should pursue, becuase he is a stud, and he is young(25).And people please, stop saying we have no money. We Have a lot of money to get some expensive players. We need to stop getting cheap losers who suck and start going after some expensive studs. Quote

The Bengals have identified their needs, there are good veterans out there that will fill their needs, they have more cap space than damn near anyone, but everyone agrees that they will never outbid anyone. I understand that the priority is the OL, but can they get creative just one damn time to land a 1st tier FA? Quote
coupdayta Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Vanden Bosch. Why aren't we going after this guy? Where's the buzz? Quote
cincy9275 Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 i have been pimping these names for a week or two Grady Jackson dt man is huge and a lot better than any we have.Ryan Pickett dt good size very solid getting better every year .lecharles bentley c Carson needs all the protection he can get this guy is better than anyone on our team and he is young and very good draft for the rest ss,cb, te . if we can land anyone of these guys it would be very nice Quote
Dan2330 Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 New generation Bengals, then they need to act like it and bring in a big name. This is not the Bengals free agency of old (who could ever forget cheap snake Mike making the Goose sit in coach on a flight to Cincy).Besides no matter how it shakes out in the Super Bowl we will have to contend with the Steelers for at least 2 games next year. NYBengalfan Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 I liked all of the names I have heard so far, but John Abraham is a head case and he always thinks that he should be getting paid more than he deserves, I read it all of the time in the NY Post. Quote

TJJackson Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Right now, the Free Agents I'd like to see in stripes are (and in order of preference):1) DE Raheem Brock2) S Chris Hope3) resign\extend our own FAs Levi Steinbach Big Willie Kenny Watson Marcus Wilkins Jon Kitna Carl Powell Jeremi Kooistra Walter (iffy) Bauman (iffy on cost vs production) Justin Smith Quote
kingwilly Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 FA's that interest me:1. Dexter Jackson - S TBArchuleta will cost too much $$. Unless we plan to get a SS in the first 2 rounds, look for a FA to step in. herring's days are numbered...2. Toni Fonoti - G MinnyDepending on the progress of our back-ups, Fonoti is a monster. 3. Dave Zastudil - P RavensLarson should be contacting a realtor...may I suggest Shankwell-Banker?4. Nate Clemens - CB Buf5. Will Allen - CB NYGUpgrading at CB would help out on the D-line by virtue of coverage. James looked to me like he lost a step and shied from hits...nto a good sign. Someone to offset Deltha's return to form would mean better pass rush and better rush stopping as a result of better play from LCB.Soon to be cut:Aaron Brooks - QB NOHe may ask for too much $ but if Kitna leaves, who has the arm to step in make the throws...Krenzel? Fiedler? Couch? no. He also has the ability to move and force extra attention on him. Quote

HoTbOy Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 I like Clements he has not gotten a lot of int. but with Coyle as his coach should increase and he is xcellent against the run. I also like Hope, he will lay the wood on you. Hovan and Abraham would round out my wish list... Quote
