*Waits for schweiny's speech on being able to cover like a corner AND tackle big backs*

......

*And then waits for schweiny's mention of Michael Huff or Donte Whitner*

If that unofficial 40 time is close, I'll pass. Doesn't have the speed to be one of marvin's "interchangable safeties"

Madieu only ran a 4.5 40. I think Marvin values the short shuttle a lot more than the 40, especially in the secondary. Keiwan Ratliff only ran a 4.6 40 but he has great change of direction speed. Pollack only ran like a 4.8 40, but he had an ungodly short shuttle time.

All the making of a Bing-A-Ling-A-Thon

ESPN Classic is airing the Rose Bowl Friday at 8. Have another look see at Bing #20 and also Mike Huff #7. :D

ESPN is also airing the Fiesta Bowl on Thrudsay at 8. Take a gander at Donte Whitner #9. :D

If it's short area quickness, accelerated change of direction, hellacious game speed, ball hawking, and split second reaction in coverage that you're after in a safety, then these are 3 good ones to watch.

How's that Rover. B)

That's a very good time for a 220 lb. player who could best be described as a traditional SS. And if reports are accurate that Lewis was prepared to draft Thomas Davis, if he had been available, then I think we can throw the interchangable safety line out the window.

BTW, the Rose Bowl isn't a very good game to judge Bing in. The game never seems to come to him, and the biggest play he makes all night is a negative one when he gets hit with a critical facemask penalty on the final drive. That said, he was one of the few USC defenders who proved himself capable of tackling Vince Young without help. In fact, it's Bing who had brought Young to the ground before the Texas QB was mistakenly allowed to pitch a TD scoring lateral.

Last, Bing was said to have agonized over the decision to turn pro and after meeting with Pete Carrol earlier in the week was said to have been leaning strongly towards returning to school to hopefully ensure that he'd be drafted in the 1st round...something that isn't a given this year. Ironically, there has been some scuttlebutt that fear of injury, a huge topic on campus due to Carson Palmer's injury, finally convinced him to declare.
