indybengalsfan72
http://www.daytondailynews.com/localnews/c...09brawlweb.html5 arrested after football rivalry gets out of control in KetteringBy Mehul SrivastavaDayton Daily NewsKETTERING | A brawl at Elsa's Sunday night between Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers fans resulted in five arrests and the bar's owner being briefly hospitalized after some of the fans turned on him.Kettering police broke up a brawl at about 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Elsa's Sport's Bar, 1216 E. Stroop Road. The Pittsburgh Steelers had just defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 31-17, and inside Elsa's, tensions appeared to be running high."One group got loud and obnoxious and was asked to quiet down," said Kettering Lt. Mark Burian. After the Bengals' defeat, the Bengals fans threw ice at the Steelers fans and were asked to stop by the owner, who was tending bar, Kettering police said. Some of the fans — police didn't know if they were Bengals or Steelers fans — assaulted the owner and other employees.Jason Hemmert, the owner, and Todd Barret, an employee, were assaulted, according to a police report, but both declined to comment.Bruce Hanson, one of the witnesses who tried to stop the fight, got slammed into a wall."I have little doubt that a few Bad Juans were involved in the fisticuffs that followed," he said.Elsa's is known for its Bad Juans — a margarita.A patron, Bob Begley, 65, suffered a slight concussion, his wife said, but he declined comment.Five men were arrested at the scene, according to Burian. A police report also pointed out that after one woman's mother, father and husband had been arrested, she refused to leave the scene and "began to yell and swear at the officers." She was later arrested and cited for disorderly conduct and for having a 2-year-old child in a car without a proper restraint."It's almost always been a quiet place," said Hanson, "Last night was just different." I know we have some drunken mouth-breathing morons show up and start trouble, but I would like to report on the "great fans" you guys had show up and represent your fine city and team. I am a Steeler fan, I was in section 222 for Sunday's game and I have traveled to Steeler games in New York, San Diego, Miami, Baltimore, Denver, Indianapolis, and even Cleveland. That said, I have NEVER seen fans behave as poorly as they did in Cincinnati. On no less than 20 occasions did I see fans throwing things. This goes from ice and peanuts all the way to full bottles of beer and water. At Steeler fans, onto the field and just into the air to hit whomever it landed on. This doesn't even count the numerous objects thrown in my direction. That is really bad, but can be overlooked, due to rookie fans, first time to the playoffs in 15 years, a heart breaking loss in the first round... The physical violence was another issue entirely. With 2 minutes left in the game, all hell started breaking loose. More things were being thrown. Bengals fans started pushing and shoving anyone. People were actively seeking out fights. I witnessed 2 in my section alone. Well, 1 was really a fight, with both parties jawing before punches were thrown. The other one was a Bengals fan tackling an unsuspecting Steeler fan, who was trying to keep things from escalating. They rolled down the steps, then the Bengals fan proceeded to pummel him until people attempted to break it up. Leaving the Stadium was worse. I had 2 beers thrown at me. There were people just laying into anyone with Black and Gold on. Putting shoulders into them, pushing them... Not even just men. I saw several women get shoved. More fights. This was the most abhorrent behavior I have ever witnessed at a sporting event. I expect to get jeered and booed. Fortunately, we had some Bengals fans around us that were decent people and understood that it was just a game. They also stuck up for us and made sure no one messed with us. I can honestly say, even with the large security presence, this is the first time I have ever seen so much violence and feared for my safety at any sporting event. I don't know if this was mentioned at all in your local media, but it should be addressed and you should be ashamed of your "great fans". I know what a great town you have, but I will certainly think twice before ever returning to it.

I've heard of ten times as many bad incidents that happened to Bengal fans in Pittsburgh than your little ice shower. Boo-Hoo. We'll start being ashamed as soon as your fans at Hienz do! Here's an idea. You watch the games in Pittsburgh, and we'll watch the games in Cincinnati. How's that sound?Anyone who travels to the others stadium does so at their own risk. I'm not stupid enough to go to Pittsburgh. I KNOW what to expect. 2 beers thrown at me would be the least of my concerns. Now, how smart are you? Turi
It's a real shame hearing this because I don't expect it from American sports. Here in England that happens all the time. You would NEVER see rivals fans even mixed in the croud. It just doesn't happen here because people will get seriously hurt. You want to see how much police presence there is for just a small soccer game here. I wouldn't like to see that happen in the US. I live in S****horpe, population of about 60,000 and our soccer teams stadium holds about 8,000. When we're playing our local rivals there's guaranteed fights all over town and tons of police, many on horseback, everywhere around the stadium - including the pitch once the final whistle is blown.Don't go down this route.By the way that's directed at American sports in general and not just Cincinnati. Please don't take it that way personally against the Bengals.

ArmyBengal
Exactly why I didn't go to the bar for the game... There are plenty of good fans wherever you go, but we all know for every one good one, there are two more drunken idiots regardless of what team they support. Cincinnati has been waiting 15 years to get back to the playoffs and then on the second play, their star QB goes down and a loss ensues. You have to see the aggravation from a Bengals fan standpoint. If you push the buttons, you are asking for trouble. I would have ended up in a fight had I gone to the bar and some assclown made a comment about how he was glad Carson went down. It's just uncalled for and unclassy... Oh well...WHODEY !!!

bengalindian
Hmmm, first playoff game in 15 years and the second play of the game is the future of the Bengals lying on the ground with one of the worst injuries you can get. Even more, he received this injury against the most hated division rivals and you DON'T expect fans to get pissed? What if the Steelers lost poor Roethlisberger on a hit like that (although he doesn't even come close to matching up to Carson)? What would Steelers fans have done? They would have cried cheap hit, and said that it was intentional. If you have a problem coming to PBS, don't come.

ArmyBengal
Four football fans go rock climbing one afternoon, a Bengals fan, aBrowns fan, a Steelers fan, and a Ravens fan. They had been arguing allthe way up the mountain about who among them was the most "die-hard"fan.Upon reaching the top of the mountain, the Ravens fan proclaimed to theother four..."This is for the Baltimore Ravens!" and promptly threw himself off themountain as a form of sacrifice. Not to be outdone by a Ravens fan, the Browns fan jumped up andsaid..."This is for the Cleveland Browns!" and then threw himself offthe mountain again as a form of sacrifice.Refusing to be outdone by the Ravens and Browns fans, the Bengals fanrose to his feet and yelled at the top of his lungs "This is for theCincinnati Bengals!" and without any hesitation, pushed the PittsburghSteelers fanoff the mountain.
