Paws Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 He just said it on channel 5 as a possibility for next season Quote
andybren Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Let's see, the last Bengal to make similar comments was....Reggie Myles. Quote
walshfan Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Tab Perry will NOT be a saftey next year or any other year for the Bengals... He's a fourth or fifth receiver that returns kickoffs pretty well... Thats what he was drafted in the later rounds to do..return kickoffs.... Quote
Kirkendall Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Troy Brown called me two minutes ago and told me, "never say never". Don't discount the possibility so quickly. If it helps the team, then let's do it. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Why not? He's played WR and RB for us already. Why not put him on defense too? Hell, while we are at it, let the man return punts too! Quote
Kirkendall Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 let the man return punts too!Anyone but Ratliff.... puuuuuu-lease. Quote
futurebengal08 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 let the man return punts too!Anyone but Ratliff.... puuuuuu-lease.Yeah...I pretty much hate Ratliff returning punts...someone should tell him to run straight. Quote
membengal Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Does this mean I can cancel my dream of them drafting, an actual, ya know, SAFETY? Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I've no problem with Perry at safety. He certainly can't be any worse than Olahete or K2, and it would improve roster flexibility and depth. Quote

rwalling Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 WAY too important a return advantage to risk at safety! Quote

But the fact remains that he is a second/third stringer and that showed all too often. Worst thing that happens with Tab is he plays like a backup, too...but so what? Nothing lost and we still improve depth. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I think it's Ratliff that needs to be the safety. It's pretty obvious he doesn't have the speed to be a corner, but he tackles well and is good in run supportHe'd be marvins perfect "interchagable safety" Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 WAY too important a return advantage to risk at safety! Nah. Heck, Brandon Bennett was kicking butt a few years back for the Bengals as a returner, and was still the change-of-pace back behind Dillon. (I'd love to see them give Chris Perry a shot as a returner...) Quote
walshfan Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 My question is why did Marvin stick with Kiewan all year.. Quote
Stripes Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 My question is why did Marvin stick with Kiewan all year.. Because he was careful with the football. His returns sucked, but I'll take that if he never turns it over. Quote

(I'd love to see them give Chris Perry a shot as a returner...)No thanks. I'd be more worried about suffering a needless injury taking him out a long time. Then again, when was the last time a punt returner suffered a major injury? My question is why did Marvin stick with Kiewan all year..Maybe it's Simmons' call? Quote
membengal Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 So......really.....why can't we draft an actual, safety? Why are we moving guys around to a position they have not played since high school?Let's just draft an actual living breathing safety to pair with Madieu and get on with our defensive lives. Quote

Why are we moving guys around to a position they have not played since high school?Let's just draft an actual living breathing safety to pair with Madieu and get on with our defensive lives. No objections to drafting a S.....but....really....what if Tab is actually a good safety? The current coaching staff seems to have a pretty good eye for DBs and has demonstrated an ability to coach them up (see Madieu, James, O'Neal). I'm sure they wouldn't consider putting Tab out there unless he looked like he could be at least as good as or better than K2 & Olahete, if only because of the already mentioned risk of needless injury to our top punt returner. No one is saying Perry is the answer. But...he might be. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 You know, the answer just might be Madieu at Strong, and KK at free safety.... Quote
Stripes Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 You know, the answer just might be Madieu at Strong, and KK at free safety.... I've thought of that too... I don't like the thought of KK playing because of his run stopping deficiencies, but I guess that won't matter if we can figure out the front seven. Having a playmaker like KK might be the key to maintaining the takeaway pace into next year. Quote
kingwilly Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Perry makes plays covering punts and kick-offs, so we know he can tackle. He has the speed to play safety, has played it before (yeah, so it was high-school)...nothing bad can result from him giving it a go. what is the problem?Drafting a S should also be a priority. Quote

kingwilly Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Tab will probably not crack the line-up as a WR. Walter seems to be developing and with Chad, TJ and Henry the first 3 are set. K-Wash may go bye-bye but even he is ahead on the depth chart. The drafting of Tab illustrates ML's insight that versatility is value. Tab has the raw talent, experience and aptitude to play wherever asked. If he wants a shot at SS, then all I can say is "Show me". If he could put on 15-25 lbs, he could also be a mad TE. Quote
