dave Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I don't know how much more snakebitten a franchise can be. First, Tim Krumrie, the heart of the defense, snaps his tibia in a gruesome accident in (IIRC) the first quarter. Second worse injury I've seen next to Joe Theismann.Second, Stanley Wilson, a huge part of the running game, doesn't show up for a team meeting and is found in a coke stupor in his hotel bathroom.First playoff appearance in 15 years, the franchise QB who just signed a $118M extension, tears his ACL on a freak play WHILE completing a 60-yd pass. What the f**k? Three freak injuries, all in emotionally excruciating fashion. Cubs, Red Sox, etc. fans have nothing to bitch about. If this team loses fair and square, that's fine. But this is BS.It's just sad. I get sick and tired of Cincinnati being the butt of people's jokes. I get sick of the low collective self-esteem this area has. Here's a chance to start all over, and...blammo. I know I probably sound like I'm making too big of a deal over a game, but I'm not.Our gang had a sick feeling in our stomachs that never went away. I shouldstart watching bass fishing.Cheers to all you guys. I'm mostly a lurker, but I enjoy coming out here on a regular basis.dp Quote
skyline Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Well, Dave. I feel your pain, for sure. This one hurt. But at least take consolation in the fact that we're no longer the butt of jokes as in years past. If people make fun of us now, it does nothing but highlight their own ignorance. We have quite a few bright seasons to look forward to! Quote
WhoDey93285 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 There is a higher being that just doesn't like Cincinnati. I think we ticked someone off in 1990 or so, and the "higher being" has never forgiven us. Call me crazy but I don't think its coincidence, man. Reds have sucked since then, Kenyon Martin gets hurt when the Bearcats are probably goingto win it all in the NCAA torunament, now Palmer, it's crazy. Quote

Got that same damn feeling tonite. Son of a BITCH! We would have beat the Steelers, I swear. Quote

andybren Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I understand the frustration here, but personally, I hate to dwell in the negative. We have such a promising future, there's really no reason for it.Unless you really want to be the NFL's version of the Cubs, Red Sox, etc. From what I hear, it's a miserable existence. If we had won today, it would have been the true passing of the AFCN torch. Instead, we'll just go into next season as the heavy favorite to win the division, and will soon make this game a faint memory.Who Dey! Quote

Rimington over Marino Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I agree but I hope they don't ever forget this game Let's see, Carson is signed through 2014....I think they'll remember this game at least until then.Brett Favre only won 1 Super Bowl in all those years. He never missed a game. The QB can only take you so far. John Elway couldn't win the big one til they got TD. How many Super Bowls did Montana win @ KC? Roethlisbereger is gonna play for Pittsburgh while Palmer is in Cincy. Defense has to step up and stop the run. Plain and simple. Quote
walzav29 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 This injury was the absolute worse case scenario. The defense is too weak to go on a run against the Patriots, Colts, and Denver. No matter what they will have to fix this defense and I think Marvin will do it. They have to get to a point where 17 points is enough. I have no idea how long it will take Palmer to recover from this. At least he is not a running back, but this is pure depression. I would have preferred to just lose by 45 than to have Palmer blow his knee out. Quote
dave Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 I would have preferred to just lose by 45 than to have Palmer blow his knee out.No doubt. At least then you could chalk it up to "deer in the headlights/young team in the playoffs" (didn't Manning lose his first playoff game like 40-0?). But now, to have the franchise player's future up in the air...ugh. Quote
TecmoFever Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Yeah, I kept asking myself after the game, "Would I have rather been a Bengals fan or a NY Giants fan yesterday?" At first, I felt pretty good that we played fairly well despite the injury (at least in the first half, until the adrenaline from Palmer's injury wore off). Then I realized how bad the injury is and I realized that this was indeed worst-case scenario.Maybe, just maybe, Carson will come back fine. Maybe this will sound off a few alarms (again) that we MUST get help on defense. Maybe this will be the thing that propels us to a Super Bowl win next year. Or maybe we've just lost the most important part of our team, and will wait another fifteen years.Ready to either (1) jump off a bridge, or (2) try to deny my love of sports. My life ends either way. ShulaSteakhouse Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 There is a higher being that just doesn't like Cincinnati. Can you say "Greg Cook"?Yes, God hates us for some reason, and all Cincinnati sports apparently...but Palmer didn't exactly "blow out" his knee. (only tore 2 of 3 ligaments)He will be fine and come back 100% with no lingering issues early next season at some point, that much is known. He didn't hurt his arm - and that's really all that matters. He will obviously get the best rehab and treatment/doctors on the planet.Palmer will be fine - just a question of when exactly now - training camp or a month or two later than that.He gets hurt a lot though - and a better backup than Klitna is surely necessary at some point, that guy is freakin' awful, don't care what anyone says, he's not worth his salary. TecmoFever Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I must admit that I'm at fault. With the winnings from my fantasy football Super Bowl victory (led by #9 himself), I bought Palmer jerseys for my wife and children, to go along with the one that I already had. I've held out because I'm a poor cheapskate, but I finally shelled out the dough. I was so excited that we all wore them to church on Sunday, which may have looked normal in Cincy, but in Campbellsville, KY it was a bit strange-looking.This obviously upset the apple cart in heaven, and God decided that my love of the Bengals has overtaken everything else in my life. I'm extremely sorry for the pain that I've caused Carson and the rest of my fellow extremist fans.Sincerely...A Heartbroken Bengal Fan Quote
AMC Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 After a summer of Reds baseball we will realize what a special year the Bengals had. Here is looking forward to training camp with the 2006 edition of the Cincinnati Bengals.... Quote
