"For some reason, people in Cincinnati have an inferiority complex. They shouldn't have it. We'll be all right. They're a good team. We're a good team. When you start from scratch and those teams are left standing there -- the 6 in the AFC and the 6 in the NFC -- that's what it's all about. And then you go from there. Pretty soon this city will get accustomed to that, and that's my job. Hopefully, we'll get them accustomed to that. It doesn’t matter who you play. It doesn't matter if we were 0-2 or 2-0 against them. Whoever we play, we're going to start from scratch just like they are."

So if you had a choice to play Duke or Xavier in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament, which one would you prefer?

I realize what he's saying is tongue-in-cheek, but I'd still rather play Jax at home than Pitt for the 3rd time.

I think that's all people are saying.

We have an inferiority complex not just because of the last 15 years, but because of how his team has played at home this year, including last Saturday, where they've lost 3/4's of their games this year.

Give us a reason to not have an inferiority complex by playing 4 quarters of solid football at PBS - that's it!

But those of us in the Glass-Half-Full Society enjoy the fact that we are even having this discussion rather than waiting for the bowl games to see who we might select in April.

I want the steelers the first game in PBS. We are AFC North champs. Lets show them why and show them why in OUR stadium. The road to the SB starts week 1.

i want pissburgh. i think we will hand it to them and it wont even be close. i think there is business to take care of with them. we need to lay down the law and take back the jungle they have won too many games in our house.

I had this feeling about a game in October as well. Strangely, I don't have that feeling anymore.

That being said, I don't care if we face Pittsburgh, but did Marvin see the team on Sunday. That product would not beat Pittsburgh. That is why people worry, not because we have an inferiority complex.

Sure, you'd play a weakened Jacksonville team over a 'On-fire' Pitt team. But, LISTEN to what Marvin is saying. It's never the same in the playoffs. Whatever is unexpected will happen, not whatever the regular scouting report tells you. So don't worry Cincinnati, do not worry. Marvin is in control.

You don't think it would be close? Man.. the Steelers had four turnovers in that one game.. and still almost won.. I think it'll be pretty damn close.

Man after reading that quote, I want to play pissburgh NOW. :excited:

Marvin will have this young team ready and will defend the home turf. I think last week was an aberation, they are young and had a valuable lesson taught to them, lets hope they learned from it.

Sure I'd rather beat Pittsburgh than Jacksonville, but if you're asking me who I'd rather play it would be Jacksonville. That does not mean I am afraid of Pittsburgh, that does not mean I want them to throw the KC game. Start Jon Kitna and play to win, but no way to I risk the health of Palmer or Delta.

Everytime I here ShulaSteakhouse coment on here it makes me realize how much he does not know. I don't know how everyone else feels but a first round win isn't that important to me unless we win in round two. I think our best bet is to play pissburgh in round one, and then get denver in round two. We need to get on a roll and have alot of confidence going into Indy. I don't care who we play so long as we don't play indy until the Championship game. Thatis the only thing I hope for.

That has absolutely freaking NOTHING to do with the NFL. In the NCAA, good programs get to recruit the best players. There is no parity in the NCAA. On the other hand, in the NFL, the teams are close enough that any team can win on any given Sunday.

We can play Jacksonville and still get Denver, if Pittsburgh beats New England. Freaking Artrell Hawkins is playing safety for them and Bruschi is banged up. It could happen.

There are benefits to either seed. Rooting for your team to lose is never a good idea and always backfires. I will not do that. I just think that some of the players (Palmer, Deltha, Willie, Levi, Rudi) would benefit from a day off.

All Hail GroIIIDayton, the Master Bengals fans. Everyone should bow and tremble in his prescence. You peasents know nothing of the game of football and should be relegated to folling soccer. You are not worthy.

According to you GROIII, you know more than anyone else on here and everyone who posts an opinion here you don't agree with is an idiot. Yet you never have a valid response to my posts that address the subject matter specifically that you disagree with - instead resulting to immature personal attacks. You do this on every thread and every post seemingly. I'm not sure why the mods have put up with it for so long frankly.

I have the balls to at least state my opinion no matter how controversial, and start a thread or two - not just jump in on threads and respond to them with personal attacks - gets old.

As for your response above - you say you think it's "our best bet to play Pissburgh in round one."

Why? Confidence? You don't really say why you think that as usual. So beating Jax at home won't give them confidence? I'll take the easiest game possible in the 1st round since you have to beat the best eventually any ways to get to the Champsionship game.

There are no "style points" for how you get there - as for the NCAA - it is a valid comparison - it's a one-and-out tournament - so is this.

I'd rather lose to Pittsburgh, or beat them, in an AFC Championship game, than lose to them or anyone in the 1st round, so everyone can just say the Bengals' were a fluke this year and had a soft schedule and proved it by a one-and-out playoff appearance.

If I had a CHOICE of who to play - it would be Jax this year and not a red hot Pittsburgh team that is demolishing people and seems to be on a mission with Ben back.

The Bengals' simply aren't playing at their level right now - harsh reality but true, face it folks, the Bengals' need a team they can beat and get their swagger/confidence back again before facing a team like Pittsburgh - who are a very experienced playoff team.

I don't know how much more clear I can be about why I feel this way - if you disagree - fine - no problem, just lay-off the personal attacks - I don't care if you disagree - state why and move on. But I am sick of the personal crap - we're all Bengals' fans here.

It doesn't matter if it's Jacksonville or Pittsburgh. It really doesn't. For that matter, it doesn't matter if we go up against New England or Indy. Every game is a game, plain and simple.

Pittsburgh red hot? Red not!

They beat Cleveland, so what? We beat Cleveland too. Twice in fact.

They beat Minnesota, so what? We beat them too. When we did it, they sucked. When Pittsburgh beats them it makes Pittsburgh "red hot"?

They beat Chicago, so what? We beat them too, and once again, when we did it, it was because they were a bad team. Hell, Chicago even lost to Cleveland. The AFC North just plain OWNS the NFC North. Chicago only managed to beat Baltimore in our division, and they TRIED to lose that one too. Yes, Chicago has a good defense, but they have NO OFFENSE AT ALL.

Oh, and before that, we beat them despite failing to score points off our 4 turnovers.

Indy creamed them.

BALTIMORE beat them.

So, what's so damned hot about the Steelers? Why is it that the beat the same teams we beat and they are red hot and we had a "soft schedule"?

Some of you people just crack me up. If you feel that getting the no. 3 seed and playing Pittsburgh is the best avenue to a Super Bowl, than I can live with that. I don't agree with it, but I can at least see the logic behind it. After all, if we beat Pitt. we have a chance to host the AFC Championship. Personally, I think you have to get past game number one to get to game number two, but that's just me. I guess that makes me scared of Pittsburgh. O.K. my name is Jet and I am scared of Pittsburgh. I'm going to go buy me a dress and some pretty lipstick.

If you realize that Pittsburgh is the tougher foe, but you want the game, because we want to prove that we are not afraid of Pittsburgh, well that's just foolish!

Anybody ever heard of path of least resistance? Isn't the goal to win a Super Bowl? Maybe we can prove how tough we are in other ways, like maybe eating bugs or something. Maybe we can all punch a door or roll a bum or something...

Posted
Jet, what makes you think Pissburg is not the path of least resistance?

That is a legitimate question. This is why I feel the Jags will be an easier first round game.

1) Pittsburgh is one year removed from a 15 - 1 season. Many of their losses can be attributed to injuries. They are pretty healthy right now.

2) Recent playoff experience.

3) Weather may be a factor with Jacksonville. The sloppier the better for Pitt.

4) I have seen Jacksonville play both early and later in the season. They played their best ball early.

5) QB - this is the biggest factor. Byron is just now returning, hopefully he will be rusty. Even if he is not, I think they can overplay the run and make him beat Cincy with his arm. He has less of a chance to do this than Big Ben. Mobility will also be a factor. Big Ben is a great scrambler and can throw on the run. Byron should be hobbled with that bum wheel. Heck, the first playoff game may be his first game back. And if he can not go, we only have to worry about Garrard running. He is horrible in the pocket.

In no way do I think the Jags will roll over for the Bengals. Either game will be tough. Like I said earlier, I think there is a good 3 point difference in spread between Pittsburgh & Jacksonville. Also, even if they did play Pittsburgh, I would expect the Bengals to win. I would, however, feel a whole lot better about Jacksonville, especially given their struggles at home. Again, in no way do I want them to throw the KC game. I just don't think Palmer should play. Probable or not, a groin strain is a very tricky injury for a qb. If he is hobbled against either Pitt or Jacksonville, he will be a sitting duck.

Four weeks ago, we were 7-5 having lost 3 consecutive games, two of which were to dreaded divisional woes... Now look at how bright a picture we have....

1. We win and we're definately in the playoffs. Lose and there is still a good chance we're still in (but unacceptable).

1. We might get a chance to rest our players as a sixth seed more than our opponent in the playoffs (3rd seed) . Going into our game on Sunday, our fate may have already been determined whereas the Bengals or NE will need to play out their games in order to improve their seed position.

2. The Lions are in turmoil and should be in a perfect warm up for the playoffs.

3. As the number 6 seed, if we win our first game we are assured to play the No. 1 seed. We may spend more time preparing for the Colts than the Colts will for us. I would assume that the final game plan for playoff game one will be concluded by Tuesday. The Steelers can begin preping for the Colts as early as Wedneday the week prior to the actual game. The Colts on the otherhand won't know who they are going to play until after the Steelers game.

4. The Steelers have the perfect blend of confidence and underdog status at the same time. Something Cowher and company seem to thrive on.

5. We have the story line with the Bus stop ending in his hometown of Detroit.

The perfect storm is forming....

Don't flatter yourself. I do believe that Pittsburgh would be the tougher opponent, but if Cowher is stupid enough to game plan for Indy and overlook Cincy, you don't have to bother with the Indianapolis travel arrangements...
