walzav29 Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 This is a sad story. It is on NFL.com . I can't imagine the pain that guy is going through. Quote
HoosierCat Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 That's terrible. My condolences to coach Dungy and his family. Quote
rizzy Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 That is crazy. 3 days before Christmas what a terrible way to lose someone. Will be interesting to see how this will affect the Colts. I bet they play that much harder for him now. Quote
walzav29 Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 I feel stupid for even bringing it up in a football sense, but I would think he would just be in a daze as a coach. I don't think 4 Super Bowl's in a row could make him feel any better. I'd imagine Dungy is out for the year. Quote

I don't think 4 Super Bowl's in a row could make him feel any better. I'd imagine Dungy is out for the year. He'll be back..You can count on it..Dungy is very strong willed and will come back to coaching, after things are taken care of in FLA. James used to accompany his dad on the sidelines, and he would want his dad to carry on and win. The Colts are going to be very dangerous and I wouldn't be surprised to see the starters play more this weekend, than originally planned. My heart goes out to the Dungy family. Quote

AMC Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 This is such a sad turn of events. I live in Tampa and actually met Coach Dungy and his sons at the Tampa Airport in March of this year. Here's hoping God gives him the strength this time of year. Our prayers are with you Coach and your family. Quote
GROIIIDayton Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 I hate to even mention this but do you guys think that it might have been drugs? I don't think he would have killed himself and they are saying there was no foul play. Quote

I don't think he would have killed himself and they are saying there was no foul play.On WTHR TV 13, they said that sheriff deputies are saying its a possible suicide. An autopsy is being conducted today, so they said preliminary results could come out as soon as tomorrow. Tony Dungy was quoted earlier this year with saying that he might retire soon so that he could be able to watch his kids grow up, since he missed out on part of James' childhood. Quote
detriotboundbengals Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 God Bless Tony Dungy and his family in this time of sorrow.May God and the Colts organization help you get through this awful turn of events.Bengals fans are praying for you Quote

Frankly, commenting on the tragedy in a football sense is all any of us are qualified to speak beyond offering condolences or prayers. So at the risk of being labeled a cold heartless bastard, I'm struck by how little momentum a once 13-0 football team is now approaching the playoffs with. They've just suffered a very tough loss that came courtesy of a physical beating, may lose again this weekend to a very good Seattle team, and now as a group have to deal with a beloved head coach reacting to a personal tragedy that underscores what's really important in life. Riagogogoindanati Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 So sad. Make sure you tell those you love.....that you love them....TODAY! You just never know what may come. Prayers to the Dungy family and to Indianapolis. Quote
WVUBengal Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 My prayers and condolences go out to the Dungy family. This is such a terrible thing to happen, especially around this time of year. I have always had great respect for coach Dungy and have always felt that he is a underated coach. I wish him the best of luck for the rest of the season, but if he faces the Bengals I will be pulling for them obviously. Quote
kingwilly Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Real Sad. Just no way to imagine. A real tragedy. Quote

Stripes Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Man, ya just hate to hear about this stuff. Mucho condolences to Dungy and the rest of his family, for what it's worth.RIP James. Quote
Stripes Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Prayers and condolences, nobody deserves to go through this. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 A guy from the Indianapolis Star believes that after the season is ovver, Tony will retire from coaching. He says that Tony has other kids and would prob. want to spend more time with them and move on to something else. I don't believe this and I hope it isn't true. If he was to retire, we would loose a great coach and a great role model, and i think it would suck very bad.R.I.P. James my prayers are with ya Quote
walshfan Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 Tony Dungy will indeed be in a daze if he even coaches the Colts in the playoffs... I think the team responds to this tragic occurance by raising their game a notch and playing it out for "their coach and friend"....I read that Dungy didnt want to coach football much longer.. He wanted to become a pastor and work with inmates in prisons and jails...He may feel he needs to spend more time with his children now more than ever....Its a very very sad situation for the Dungy family... Quote
PMThor Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 I don't see him in a daze after this. Actually I see the exact opposite. He will take the next two weeks off, (giving his other coaches some incredible experience by the way) and come back better than ever.It will be the "Brett Favre after his Dad died" factor all over again. If anything, the team will rally around him even more. Not like they need the motivation, but this is the ultimate motivation. Give the Coach, who is a really good guy, wins so you can keep his mind off of other things.I pray and hope that his family will be ok too. This is a terrible, terrible thing to happen. Quote
