Pittsburgh - The Inside Scoop, Part II

Winter weather advisory tonight through noon tomorrow.

Probably 1-2" of snow overnight and in the early morning.

Should clear up well in advance of the game.

Temperature around 30, with winds 10-15 mph.

I'd prefer to see a little less wind for Carson to try to throw into for half the game.

Finally, some NFL football ...

JS --> "If they lose, it could be the official changing of the guard."

It's coming sooner or later, wheather or not they choose to accept it. Tomarrow's...oops, make that today's game would be a perfect time for it to go down as far as I'm concerned! :bengal:

BTW, huge props for the great inside scoop you're providing, but I pity you having to listen about the stinkin' Penguins hockey team when there are real sports going on! A bunch of "Brian Boitano" wanabee's chasing a mensroom urinal cake painted black/ a.k.a. "puck" with a stick on a sheet of ice does not constitute a sport anymore than Olympic figure skating does. <_<

EC --> "If the Bengals were to win, would this wash away alot of the last decade and a half?"

MH --> "I still think they are mentally and maturity-wise another year or two away. I expect a complete about face by the Steelers."

MH --> "The Bengals are close, but I don't think it happens today. The Steelers physical presence shows up today and dominates the game."

MH --> "They still haven't made the strides they need defensively. You go back and look at the last 4 weeks. They have improved a little bit, but not signficantly. The way the Bengals like to match up, you can create matchups with Heath Miller, and that will really help with their running game."

GJ --> "The Steelers have given Carson Palmer a rough time. They have been playing more no-huddle. To really run an effective no-huddle, you got to run defenses quickly. You have to be experienced to do that."

MH --> "It will be very interesting to see if they try that today. Steeler fans understand that, and everything will break loose if they try that. If Carson Palmer get it's to that, you got to watch Troy Palomalu."

EC --> "Rate the Steelers defense in terms of making it difficult to run the no-huddle."

MH --> "I'd put them in the top 3. Maybe the Ravens do a pretty good job of it. The Steelers may be the best in football against the no-huddle."

MH --> "Talking to Bob Bratkowski and Dick LeBeau, these guys have like 4 types of gameplans. You don't know which one is going to work for you. Both have worked hard in case one doesn't work."

MH --> "I think he (Chad) is funny. I think Chad has been entertaining about it.'

MH --> "I like the Steelers, but I don't think they cover. The half always gets me. Good game, but I like the Steelers."

Rumors in Pittsburgh began hitting the airways a few minutes ago that Benji wasn't going to start, and Maddox would instead.

He had not been seen on the field during warmups, which is usually the case. He did just now arrive on the field in the last 5 minutes or so (11:15 a.m.).

They said that Ben WILL start, but I just saw local tv show live video of Benji on the field. He was clutching his right hand, with the ball in his left. His face showed pain without a doubt, as he shook his head. Hmmmm.

Coming off the field from warmups, Benji told folks that his thumb was "really bothering him."

Also, Batch has dressed as the 3rd QB.

Yup just saw that on ESPN. They are all baffled why he would say that just before the game. He said it is affecting his accurcy and he is going to try and play thru it.

TOOOOMMMY MADDOOOX TIIIIIME

I don't even know where to begin. Man, talk about the best Christmas present this stuck-in-Pittsburgh boy could ask for! I've screamed more than any man in history. My family thinks (uh, knows) I'm nuts, but I have not experienced anything like this since I was in college (1990). Add to that the fact that I have been here listening to this garbage for so long. Sweet. That's it. Sweet.

Thanks Marvin. Thanks Carson. Thanks every last one of you guys. You came to play. You brought it. Thanks.

Post Game Nightly Sports Call starts with the following:

"The bungles are not your father's bungles anymore." (Screw you!!!! You cannot possibly use that word when you just lost this game. Man, this town will always rub me the wrong way.)

"What a shame it is. No team has ever started the year 7-2 and not made the playoffs. The Steelers could be the first."

And boy, the whining. It's so nice to hear it! You know, I really think losing to our Bengals on their field really has sent this town into anger mode. Not to worry ... depression will follow.

sore losers thats all cant handle the fact the bengals are the best in the north.

they beat themselves today wow we dominated them. guy junker is an idiot homer

Yep, jungleman is right. The comments going around here right now are that "the Bengals aren't really that much better than the Steelers." That they only beat themselves. That Ben's thumb was injured.

Ugh ... have I mentioned how much I hate this town?

Who Dey!

MM --> "Is the Steelers defense too predictable?"

GJ --> "I think that Carson Palmer at time wasn't sure. I don't think their too predictable at all. Maybe slow."

MM --> "What were the Bengals doing to neutralize Polamolu?"

GJ --> "I think they just didn't look that way. I think he was involved in a lot of plays mentally."

Caller complaining about 2 weeks in a row that they got called for a "low block."

"The offensive line is struggling."

"Rudi Johnson was very effective today."

"The Bengals did a great job of picking up the blitz."

Things I've heard:

* Plax isn't here (probably correct on that one!)

* Ben's thumb

* Bad stadium design (funniest one ever!)

* Lack of 'physicality'

* Offensive line

* Special Teams

* Cowher (the one I always enjoy the most!)

* Lack of balance

* Turnovers

* Lack of pressure on the QB

* Pressure on Ben

* Lack of offensive weapons

on and on and on

But never a mention of the Bengals actually winning. Ugh.

Back to Nightly Sports Call:

Caller --> "Good, well coached teams win the close games. Special teams has not performed well. There isn't consistent pressure on the quarterback."

"They took Troy out of the game pretty much. They schemed away from him."

Caller --> "They need to start looking at next year."
