skyline
Big news. We'll see how it works out.I'm certainly not opposed to Lindner being gone. It just doesn't guarantee that the new people are going to be any better.

ShulaSteakhouse
Happy Lindner is out - he was a God awful owner - just pathetic - and hired some lame people and kept John Allen - who is a huge problem. The new owners probably won't spend any more money, Carl just solidified/sweetened the pot for a local owner to buy it and maintain the status quo.Baseball is what it is - a game of have's and have not's. And the Reds are have not's for now and the foreseeable future.I hope things certainly do change over the next 3-5 years.O'Brien does not belong in a GM role, so I hope he is gone at some point, same with Allen - O'Brien has his value - but it's in an assistant GM or scouting and big picture development role versus the GM role.John Allen needs to go back to counting beans, he's been utterly putrid since he took over the Reds, their track record since then and the constant PR blunders speak for what kind awful, terrible job he really has done. Get him out!

Stripes
Cool beans, now maybe they can put some pressure on O'Brien to get some pitching. And I don't mean Ramon Ortiz caliber pitching either.
AMC
I am intrigued by the connection to the St. Louis Cardinals. And the connection of the Williams' to the Big Red Machine days. Hopefully they bring a fresh concept to how to run the Reds, much like the new ownership group of the D-Rays are doing ....
Kirkendall
Cool beans, now maybe they can put some pressure on O'Brien to get some pitching. And I don't mean Ramon Ortiz caliber pitching either.I agree, but I don't think O'Brien is choosing NOT to get some pitching and I think it's incredibly naive and dumb to think O'Brien isn't qualified for the GM role (as others have pointed out; not you TB). With limited quality F.A. starting pitching on the market -- bigger payroll teams will get their shot first for anyone that does come available -- you can't just find them from a tree and BOOM, we're competitive. There's no way on god's green earth that we, or any other mid-market team can compete with high-sought quality starting pitching -- hence why there's such a premium on them today. And let's just sit back and think for a second, what quality starting free agent wants to come to Cincinnati? Afterall, we have a very very very friendly hitting ballpark. We've got zero probability for post-season success if we remain in the status quo compared to other teams -- TWO in our DIVISION EVEN!O'Brien is doing it the Bengals way. Through the draft by picking up kids to develop. And I challenge ANYONE to prove to me that O'Brien isn't doing it the right way -- Ortiz was a trade pickup. And Milton isn't a complaint, because everyone here, before the season started, thought that F.A. pickup was a good one -- no one would have suspected his junk season; and what's ownership to do when the fan base is bitching and complaining about Free Agents pick ups? Hey, they picked up a free agent, and now we're responsible for $25 mil... Let them do their job for christ sake!
Stripes
Let them do their job for christ sake! Agreed on all points. Despite his crap season, getting Milton last year proved they are willing to spend money if they find a worthy player available that is willing to play in our dinky park. I expect him to have a solid year in '06 (a la Bartolo Colon after switching teams and going from terrible to solid in a year). The young guys look like winners. Harang, Claussen, and Hudson all look to at least be passable in the near future, and possibly pretty good. I loved the Germano pickup in the Randa trade, and we all have seen the potential of Homer Bailey. With professional sports in Cincinnati, patience is most definitely a virtue. CBin2k7
The Reds payroll was some where around 65 million this past season. The White Sox won the World Series with a 75 million dollar pay roll. It's not always about how much you spend, but how you spend it. Sadly, with O'Brien and Narron on one year contracts, this is a must win season for them. I think both are gone at the end of the year, hopefully Allen is not retained, he doesn't have a contract for this upcoming year.

About the pitching end they are not going to come here. Unless we can count on going out and signing an El Duque and a Contreras each offseason we can forget about challenging every year consistently. MLB pisses me off.
