buck3y3d
Yes, this game has been painfuland troubleing but I belive that we are better than we played today. Also I think that there was some very very bad officating 2day and that if the refs has ruled chads touchdown catch (AND IT WAS A TOUCHDOWN CATCH) then the game would have gone differently.Chad's was not a touchdown catch, but the drive still should have resulted in a TD. The officiating was average and evened out in the end. The play calling was awful. Bob Bratowski, come on. I used to like this guy, but this year he's lost it. Why did we run screens when Pitt wasn't rushing. This game is a set back, but the worst part is that everyone will talk about how the Bengals don't play anyone. This was a statement game and the Bengals refused to make one.BTW, a couple of weeks ago there was a who misses Niel Rackers thread. I said then i thought either kicker was a toss up, today i miss Niel Rackers. Not for the missed field goal, but for the pathetic kick offs. I still think the Bengals can make the playoffs, but how can you lose a game like this at Home. The fans were in to it, and still they played flat. HoosierCat
Well, on the plus side at least Detroit beat Cleveland. And Baltimore's first snap was a QB fumble (recovered only to go 3 and out).So at least it isn't looking like we have anyone other than Pitt to worry about... kingwilly
Let's not try to put a "Happy" spin on this yet. If we can't beat Pitt, we are F'd...It is games like this that show Brat should be freaking fired. 3 rushes for Perry? Not having Henry involved in the scheme? Real bad calls. No downfield strikes for 57 minutes...WTF? We have all witnessed some badly called games in the last 14 years but this one is up there. THanks, Brat for making cowher and leblow look like ***damn geniuses. One comment about the ref's. The way they were spotting the ball was criminal, just criminal. Chad's TD was a td, I don't care what anyone says. Both feet dragged ad then his arm hit, plus he was being pushed...It was a score.Tip of the hat to the Pitt D but we, and the ref's, beat ourselves.I love Odell's fire but his overpursuit cost us many times today. 221 yrds rushing.....yeah, the run D is not a concern....WHOEVER HERE THINKs THE D IS OK IS A MORON! I put this on the staff and the last 2 drafts. Another 1 tackle game for the "wallet known as Pollack", nice.I'm one disappointed black and orange dude today Getting to 5-2 like this, when 7-0 is a legit possibility, sucks ballz. Whur CHad At?
Agreed 100% KingWilly. I love when people say our D is fine, cause its games like this that makes those people look like turd monkeys.Defense wins championships. Our Defense couldn't win a WOmens football game, its a PowderPuff game I think.
HoosierCat
Let's not try to put a "Happy" spin on this yet. If we can't beat Pitt, we are F'd...We can beat Pitt. We just can''t beat ourselves at the same time.Pitt didn't make a wide-open Chris Henry drop a TD pass.Pitt didn't make Graham blow a chip-shot FG.Pitt didn't make Graham kick the ball out of bounds on a kickofff, giving Pitt the ball at the 40.Pitt didn't make Odell jump offsides and give them a crucial 1st down via penalty.Pitt didn't make them waste a timeout because 7 games into the season they can't get a play called in the red zone before the play clock runs out.Pitt didn't make another illegal block in the back penalty killing a great Perry return.etc., etc., etc. That isn't to say Pitt didn't make plays, they did, many and often...but the Bengals had plenty of opportunities to make plays of their own, and screwed them up without any interference whatsoever from the Steelers. The Bengals did the same sort of thing vs. Houston and Nashville and got away with it. Against Jax and Pitt, it's cost them two L's. And at this point I'm at a loss as to where to start to fix it.
kingwilly
Clearly, this was not a case of Pitt purley beating us. Your points are as valid as the 4th Mickey's I've had since I got home from Champs, but reality is it is a loss. I see it as a culmination of your points, or the causes of your point all coinciding in one game. Our star roopkie Wr makes a rookie drop...vs Pitt.Shane-o-matic double flubs....against Pitt.Odell make a rookie misake...vs Pitt.Carson numbskulls several times....aginst Pitt. All true. Sad but true. But the fact remains, it is a loss and vs the key div rival at our house. Fixing this should start with Thornton, Pollack, Geathers and L.Johnson spending some time on the pine. Something to get the attention of the D.
HoosierCat
Fixing this should start with Thornton, Pollack, Geathers and L.Johnson spending some time on the pine. Something to get the attention of the D.I'm sorry, I just can't lay this one at the feet of the D. They held Pitt to 7 in the 1st half, and the only TD the Steelers scored was after Graham set them up at their 40.Another TD came after a Bengals punt that set them up at the same location, and 10 more points came off picks that set the Pitt O up in Cincy territory (the 15 and 47).Forced to acctually drive the length of the field, the best the Pitt O could muster was a FG.Any team's D gets stuck with the kind of field position the Bengals D did today they will look bad. Whur CHad At?
Well I can lay this on the D.THEY QUIT!!!!! and that is unacceptable!!
kingwilly
Joisey..you are right. Good points about the D. Can't all be on the D. Some of it is but not all. I put 70% of this loss on Brat. In every workplace, there is the guy who seems to do well, he's got all the tools and seems pretty together. Then, when the s**t is hitting the fan, he's squandring his resources, pounding beers and generlly f-ing it up. THis is what I will now call pulling a "BRat". Carson had his hand in floundering this game away but without detailing all his mistakes I'll chalk it up as an aberration. Botom line is he needs to be even more "on" in big games like this. Chad, are you listening, mr. dropsie?
derekshank
The Defense let us down... but only after the offense and special teams put them in a hole several times. We're a good defense... not an elite one. Even the best defenses in the league give up points when their offense are no help at all (i.e. Bears, Ravens, etc...). If the Bengals are up 17-7 at half time like it should have been, I expect our defense would have remained stout. Instead, the Steelers were permitted to run the ball over and over, right at the weakness of our Defense. Our D-Line is not physical enough to take a pounding like that for 35:29. That's right, the TOP was ridiculous. We got owned in the 2nd half. We had the ball for 16:29 in the first half, and then only 8:02 in the 2nd half. Why? Because of INT's, punts, and most importantly not having the lead we should have had because of missed opportunities. The Defense played the way it should have in the first half. The offense is what let us down... again. It can't do that stuff to our defense in big games, or we'll lose every time. The D held up the way it should have given the situation. We can't allow teams like the Steelers get into their ideal gamplan. That is what lost us this game.
Stripes
I don't think this is a good defense at all. It does have it's strengths, being pass defense and getting turnovers. Still, when it is this abysmal against the run, the other two don't matter much.
membengal
Team loss. Offense, defense, special teams, all f**ked up equally egergiously. Coaching staff too.Happens. Need to look at the film, learn from it, and concentrate on Green Bay. I assume that will be what ML has already told them.
