HoosierCat
from da site...Signed S Tony Bua, second-year player from Arkansas. Bua (5-11, 218) was a fifth-round selection by the Miami in the 2004 Draft and played in seven games for the Dolphins last season. He was released by Miami on Sept. 4 of this year, and was on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad from Sept. 5 through Oct. 18.Released G Jonathan Clinkscale, rookie from Wisconsin. Clinkscale was with Tampa Bay during preseason and had been on the Cincinnati practice squad since Sept. 13.Perhaps they're anticipating that Madieu will end up on IR?Bua's stats with the Fins: 7 games, 0 tackles, 1 FF

I remember him from the SEC against my beloved Vols. Mostly a special teams guy at this point I think.

Could it be that the Bengals figure Clinkscale just ain't cutting it, and they looked at all the safeties on practice squads and decided Bua was the best scrub available? ShulaSteakhouse
I really think this was due to Madeiu's situation. Unfortunately I think he's done for a while, if not the season. The Bengals need to draft or sign a decent safety in the off-season, in the worst way. Unfortunately I think he's done for a while, if not the season. The Bengals need to draft or sign a decent safety in the off-season, in the worst way.Next draft could be a good one at Strong Safety. There are a LOT of guys who could be drafted. You have Bernard Pollard out of Purdue, who looks like a 2nd rounder and is only a Junior, so he might not come out at all. There's Jason Allen out of Tennessee, but he's more of a free safety/corner than a strong safety.Greg Blue out of Georgia is likely to go long before we pick in round 2, and isn't a 1st round guy.Lamon Means from Arizona needs to do a little more to show me we want him, but he has potential. Maybe Billy could tell us more about him since he's from the Baked Flesh State.Anyone think Terna Nande from the Redhawks could convert from LB to SS? He has the size, speed, agility, and lateral hip moves to do it. He'd likely be a day 2 pick.Lewis Page out of UCLA is a great tackler at SS, but he hasn't looked very good this season so he might slip to later rounds.Josh Powell out of San Jose State is another sleeper who hits like Odell and plays like a wild animal at SS. Travis Pugh out of Clemson is a hitter and good for run support, but doesn't do much more than Ohalete.Chris Reis from GA Tech has potential, but once again, he's a lot like Ohalete and isn't much of an upgrade. The problem is, most of these guys could be good, but they aren't much of an upgrade from what we have.I left out Anthony Trucks, who plays like his last name. schweinhart
The site has got Madieu out for Sunday, but they don't need him to beat the Steelers.Bua, Indiana Jones, or maybe even Body look like the most likely for a roster spot if Madieu is done for the year. Bua is proly better than either but gotta think Jones since he's been here from the start of the year, had a solid pre-season showing, and is a truer safety than Body even though Body played FS at Toledo. Not sure who else was on practice squad elsewhere but James Butler sure isn't.Next year is next year but safety jumps out as somewhat of a need. A healthy Madieu is great and K2 signed through 2006 is good. Ohalete has a 1-year deal, but if he'll make his bid as the Bengals start facing harder running teams like the Steelers and Ratbirds for the team to keep him in mind in their offseason plans. He's definitely better than Mitchell. Herring is signed through 2008 but I'd be surprised if they don't dump him.Draftwise, the Bengals should be picking between 26 and 32. The best available safety who can interchange and last that long looks like Michale Huff (Texas). If Bing enters early, he should be gone before the Bengals pick. Some safeties who look to me like they can play both spots in the NFL are Trevis Coley (Southern Miss), Jahmile Addae (West Va), Harrison Smith (Cal-former CB), and Marcus Hudson (NC State--now used as a CB). I'd like to see Daniel Bullocks (Nebraska).Blue looks to me like a straight SS in part because of his lower body build, which more resembles a LB -- kinda like Polamalu. That doesn't mean he won't be effective in some coverage.I doubt Salley can switch back and forth effectively, but he's got time to prove himself to clubs. It's somehwat hard to tell about Salley given how good the rest of the team is around him, but if it came down to Salley or Whitner entering early, I'd be surprised if Donte didn't go first. Is this possibility really one to be concerned about? The injuries he has sustained just don't seem to be the season killer type. He played through pain last week, and despite getting a little banged up again, he is at doubtful borderline questionable. I don't think this is so serious that we need to worry about losing him for the year. They may have decided on adding a defensive back rather than a guard with the extra roster spot. The_Next_Big_Thing
I don't like Bing at all. He's too cherry!Seriously, I don't like his work ethic, and I don't think he's going to come out early.I'm a big fan of Blue. He doesn't make me sad. They may have decided on adding a defensive back rather than a guard with the extra roster spot. The site and Curnutte both have Madieu downgraded to out vs. Steelers. No doubt Madieu is willing to play w/ pain but watching him get knocked out of the game last week when he hit Brandon Jones in the 4th Q was pretty clear that it's a whole lot of pain from an injury that sounds like surgery and time to heal are needed.Any agent looking at his own benefit and Madieu's football future is gonna tell him he will be a Pro Bowler and fetch top dollar for his position if he can string together seasons in 2006 and 2007 like he had last year....but he might not get the shot if his shoulder gets minced by playing out the year.Madieu is a serious gamer, though, so the next few weeks will tell. The Bengals got a couple PUPs to decide on by the bye and a couple others to bring into the practice fold by then. With 10 weeks to go, I would think Madieu gives every chance he can for himself to return at some point this year if the Bengals are willing to make him inactive week-to-week. No doubt Madieu would like to play in the playoffs and help the team get there.
walshfan
Madieu Williams is done for the year... surgery will be required ...torn labrium ....Ohalete and KK are now the starters....Daze-Jones and Mitchel are destined for duty!!!!!SS in the draft will be Greg Blue....Bengals scouted him and came away impressed.. he can cover will and makes wrap around tackles....
