BengalNation1281
So Sunday started out as a good day. My radio show hit its stride in the fifth week of the season, the beer was flowin', and I basically drank myself into a coma before the game even started. So, with nervousness coursing through my veins (along with roughly 15 Coors Lights), I settled in to watch the game.I can look back on it now and say that I was really disappointed, but not surprised. There were glaring issues that the Bengals needed to focus on to truly become an elite team, and I feel that the loss will highlight those to the point that it will finally start to sink in. Less penalties, fix the run defense, get more pressure on the QB...all things that were issues before, all things that can now be effectively analyzed and fixed. I was impressed with Carson and the offense, and this time last year I would have been all over the board ranting about sitting him down after letting the game literally slip out of his hands, but he has earned the right to fumble every once in awhile. Rudi finally had the game that everybody has been waiting for him to have. All in all, even with the loss it was not all bad. I expected two of those by now, and I find it really hard to complain about 4-1.But the main thing that was inspiring to me was this: As the Bengals fan on the radio show, as the only Bengals fan at the bar, and as possibly the only Bengals fan in Amarillo (reports of others cannot be confirmed at this time), I open myself up for all kinds of s**t when my team loses. I am loud and vocal and boisterous, and some people would find me to be obnoxious when I am watching the only team worth watching. Therefore, it was extremely comforting to me that after the game the only thing that I got from anyone was a pat on the back and an apology for the loss, and all of them telling me that it doesn't change anything, that the Bengals are still for real, that we all have to lose one sometimes. Of course, it might have been the fact that I looked like I was about to burst into tears (which I did when I got home...don't laugh at me), but it's all different now. Even the Steelers fans around here don't pass off our game in two weeks as a joke or an easy win, as they always have before. The respect from everywhere and everyone is growing, and that is what I have wanted for eleven years...to be a fan of this team, to be one of the true fans who stuck through the Age of Helplessness and lived and died with this team, and have the masses understand that things are different now.So I anxiously await Sunday, so we can all put this one behind us and look forward to the rest of the season. duus
Great post BengalNation1281. I read this to my wife (well, I did leave out a few pieces). When I read your final quote:"The respect from everywhere and everyone is growing, and that is what I have wanted for eleven years...to be a fan of this team, to be one of the true fans who stuck through the Age of Helplessness and lived and died with this team, and have the masses understand that things are different now"... she simply replied, "you guys need help."Need help? Nah, I would have it no other way. She knows I shed tears as well. She has seen me have "bad Sunday after bad Sunday" for about 15 years now. I get to see very few Bengals games living here in Pittsburgh. The only games I usually get to watch are against the Steelers and those haven't helped me in recent years. I so look forward to watching a Bengal game against someone other than the Steelers, but then the Jags game hurt even more. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring home a victory on 10/23. I need this. My family needs this. My kids will be sporting the Bengal attire, as will I. We will be rocking, and I hope the Jungle is as well!No more tears. Not this year. I was the only one wearing a Bengals jersey...but there were a couple other Bengals fans in the house, and one guy who was there for the first half and had to leave to catch a flight. And leaving the bar late that night I was accosted by a group of Cincy fans. Everybody was bummed at the loss...but thought we'd bounce back. So keep the faith! Joisey -- too bad I didn't know you were in town. I would've made it a point to catch the game with you. Anybody who's ever in SF let me know - I'll help you avoid the depressing 9'ers watering holes.Oh yeah -- there's no crying in football. Anybody who's ever in SF let me know - I'll help you avoid the depressing 9'ers watering holes. Thanks, I'll remember that. I'm usuallly there at least once a year, but most years it isn't during footballl season. I always seem to end up having to stay at one of the 247 billion hotels in the Nob Hill area, and there's this dingy little sports bar (creatively named the Union Square Sports Bar) I've drunk way too many beers in. Not many SF fans in attendance Sunday; early game I was watching the Cards with a couple AZ fans who were happy to see the bengals succeeding. jditty47
ya BN the only point that stood out to me in ur post was that u almost burst into tears. come on bro, there is no crying in football - well if we lose a superbowl then u can cry....but besides that come on man. we faught like hell to stay in the game no matter how bad we played and we shoulda went to at least overtime or even won it. i had my homies talkin s**t to me the whole game, but i didnt cry, i didnt even feel anger...i just felt hope. cuz unlike other years...we actually have a shot when were down now. oh and my friends are major charger fans so i got on them a bit on monday...at the end even though we lost i was proud we faught till the end. were 4-1 still, no biggie that we lost - and at least it was to a good team. i dont care if we lose to all 6 teams that are good as long as we beat the other 10. HairOnFire
I have mixed feelings. Drinking 15 beers is impressive in it's own way, but the post game tears are troubling to someone who has never been a fan of the sloppy drunk. My advice? Buck up, stick out that lower jaw, and challenge someone to a fight ASAP.

Next time, if you can remember it, you should take a short cab ride to the Bayside on Union Street (just above the Marina). It's a good place to catch the games and the scenery is pretty fantastic. Oh yeah, you can also see the bay too. Hope your trip was good despite the loss.
BengalNation1281
I knew that my post-game tears would get a few responses, but I wanted to keep the realism. I wasn't embarassed, and I was heavily intoxicated, and I cried on my own time in my own house, away from the jeers that would inevitably follow me breaking down in a bar.And I almost came to blows with a Vikings fan a few weeks back, so I ain't no punk. redsfan2
15 Beers and you still remember the game? I'm impressed.... I would be sleeping like a baby by then.... Not offering advice, but what works for me is to lay down in the back yard with my head pointing downhill. That way I don't have to get up to go outside to throw up ...... and since my head is already downhill .... I don't have to worry about puking on myself and then laying in it. I will however kill that &%#*ing cat next time it covers me up with dirt.

BengalszoneBilly
15 Beers and you still remember the game? I'm impressed.... I would be sleeping like a baby by then.... You forgot to take into account what kind of "beer" our friend BN1281 had:So Sunday started out as a good day. My radio show hit its stride in the fifth week of the season, the beer was flowin', and I basically drank myself into a coma before the game even started. So, with nervousness coursing through my veins (along with roughly 15 Coors Lights), I settled in to watch the game. IMO 15 of ANY American light beer really isn't all that much to drink compared to the the amount you have to pee to get there. Too many trips to pisser for me, plus if my genitals have to be handled that much in one night, I'd prefer it wasn't my own hand. Instead, buy a pretty young lady a few stiff cocktails of what you're drinking at the bar, and if you're lucky, later on SHE'LL be the one doing all the handling of your genitals later!About your post BN1281...I can sympathize, but honestly I was quite ready for the loss, although it didn't help me like it any more. But the point is I was prepared. Now I'm ready for them to warm up on the Titans this week in preparation for the Steelers coming up after that!
