I like to ask questions like these. It's fun.

Please eliminate all homerism for the Bengals before you answer this.

Give reasons why you think Bear/Bengal would win.

Think of that TV show on Discovery Channel I believe...the one where they pit animals vs each other.

Get to it.

Both equally deadly to big game, Tigers have a taste for people. Jim Corbett in his book "Maneaters of Kumaon" describes how he shot the man-eating tigers responsible for killing nearly 1500 people. The most notorious was the Champawat Tiger, which alone devoured 436 people, a record that stands to this day.

I'd be more scared to be eaten by a Tiger.

But in a fight the Bear wins. Bigger, heavier coat (defense), more pure power (The Brown Bear posesses tremendous power: a large specimen can break a bison's spine with one blow of its powerful forepaw) and can run full speed for miles (up to 35 mph, all according to wikipedia). A Kodiak can get near 2500lbs, too.

Siberian Tiger is biggest Tiger at nearly 12 ft long and nearing 900 lbs, most others (Bengal, Sumatran, etc)are smaller. More of an ambush hunter, they are smart, powerful swimmers, tigers are known to kill prey while swimming. Some tigers have even ambushed boats for the fishermen on board or their catch of fish. Just outmatched by the Bear based on weight and power.

So...a Tiger vs a Kawala (sp) Bear? No brainer - lol.

I agree tho...and I do believe that the Bears are based off a great black bear. This would also depend on a few things. Element of suprise, battle ground, etc.

Ex. If there were a Bear in a particular forest and if the Tiger were able to sneak behind it and attack, I would believe that the Tiger would be able to inflict enough damage in that one strike that the Bear would never be able to recover sufficiently. Face to face...a tiger and a great black bear...no way. Bears are not slow by no means...the only thing the Tiger could hope to do is hit and run...and hope he doesn't get the old "bear claw back hand" if you know what I mean. If the fight were to take place in a marsh of types, where the tiger could pick a location to stalk the Bear and wait it out for an opening, then the Tiger would win IMO.

Anyhow...I didn't vote since it is WAY up in the air. Simple fact is I wouldn't want to be locked up in a cage with either one if they were hungry!

WTF? This is the dumbest topic . . . based on this (il)logic, we (Bengals) wouldn't stand a chance against the Alliance Elephants, or Huntington Humpbacks, or especially the Remington Thirty-ought-Sixes!

For the record, A Brown Bear and Bengal Tiger would be an even match, as would a black bear and a panther. No cat since the saber-tooth has had a chance against a kodiak, grizzly, or polar bear.

While a grizzly or kodiak would definitely overpower a tiger or much anything else, the bear on Chicago's logo appears to be a typical American black bear. The black bear is about 5 feet long and can vary in weight up to about 800 pounds. A bengal tiger can be up to 10 feet long and weigh up to 600 pounds. Both are good climbers and can manage in the trees well. The bengal does have a little more speed although bears can be fast as well. The bengal will go for victory by sinking it's teeth into the bears neck. The bear will use it's incredibly powerful paw to break the bengal in two (well, maybe not in two, but you get the drift).

If it's more of a cage match type of fight, the bear will probably win. If it's a street fight, I'd go for the bengal.

Kind of like what Odell is going to do to Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson :player:

A bear, specifically the Kodiak subspecies of brown bear, aka grizzly, can be more than 1,500 pounds of ground shaking muscle.

A tiger, specifically the Siberian subspecies, can be more than 750 pounds of silent death in a fur coat.

So, at first blush you might suspect the bear has the upper hand. But size isn’t always the final arbiter of physical confrontation. Cats are natural born killers with one of the least efficient digestive systems in the animal kingdom specifically because they are so good at killing that they don’t have to worry about how long a meal lasts. Bears on the other hand are more prone to scrapping, and the surreal amount of hot lead that it can take to bring down a Kodiak is well documented.

Unless it’s a large grizzly, my money’s on the tiger. If it is a grizzly, it might go the bear’s way but that will be one sorry ass looking one-eyed gimp bear if it gets out alive.

A Bengal tiger is a 800lb killing machine - Not unlike Justin Smith, Robert Geathers, and David Pollack :bengal:

Anything that could run furiously on land and then swim a few miles to grab somone out of a raft from the water is the freakin terminator in my book :(

I'll go with the Tiger because this time of year, the bear is getting ready to go to bed for a while. The tiger will sneak up on him while he's sleepin and eat him!

Bears are slow to anger, Tigers attack quickly. It only takes one shot for that tiger to clamp down on the bears skull and start crushing before the bear goes down.
