Will this be Chris Perry's breakout game?

The Vikings have two tackles that can really plug up the middle...Rudi will have to go off guard to get any breathing room imo....

This defense looks like it can be vulverable to swing passes out of the backfield.

their starting MLB is out and the backup isn't good on passing downs..

Lets attack their weakness and use Perry until they prove they can adapt to his elusiveness..

I see Perry with 10 carries and 6 or 7 receptions agasinst the Vikes ..

Rudi will still get 20 touches but I think Perry will be most effective come sunday.

It sure looks to line up well for his game. I would like to see him get some swing passes on 1st and 2nd down to keep the d off-balance as much as possible. If there's a positive to his below average game in cle it would have to be that the vikes don't see him as much of the game plan as the down-the-field pass. Hard to say how this will work out, but it is nice to have this option as compared to last year (Watson was okay, but Perry is a bona fide threat to get loose). I guess it's unreasonable to think that they won't expect anything from him. If the d gets the pressure I expect on CP however, the screen may be just the answer.

The Minny D-line has improved, but TB had a good gameplan wil the Caddy getting goo yrd up the middle. Rudi should do well pounding it against the Williams'.

I expect Perry to get early action, but get less as the Bengals run Rudi as they protect the lead they'll build.

I think Perry gets his first score, beginning of the 2nd quarter. Quick swing pass behind Reggie kelly/Levi.. I'm thinking about 16 yrds to pay dirt making it 14-3.

No one can stop Rudi.

Ill have to say this very delicately to avoid turning this into a "Pushy hates Rudi" thread. But he has been stopped plenty of times before, don't be so foolish to think that no team can stop him. Even great RBs like Dillon, Alexander, James, and Tomlinson can be, and have been, stopped.

I think some of you are underestimating the Vikings defense. They have a great D-line (Kevin Williams is possibly the best young DT in the league), some solid LBs, though id say this is the weak spot, and a good secondary (Smoot, Winfeild, Sharper, Chavous). A lot are newer to the team so they will take some time to fit in together, but when they do that defense can be very good. Hopefully that doesn't happen next week, but I wouldn't expect them to play us like they played the Bucs last week.

Stop understimating him. If he can put 100+ up on Pittsburgh and Baltimore, he'll do it to Minnesota.

Rudi looks better than last year so far.

That said I'm sure Perry will be used a bit more this week and as time goes on - they'll need him to.

I HEAR YA!!! What makes the VIKS def. so much different than the rest of the NFL. Heck RUDI gets his 100+ on everyone.... B)

When you run the ball as much as rudi did last year then ya your probbley gonna get stuffed more.but with perry to give him breathers /less carries should help in the long run

I was at that game, and yes, that may have been the worst game of Rudi's career. He barely made it to 2 yards a carry, but I don't blame all of the performance on him. Throughout the second half of the year, the running game stalled with Braham at center, and Fontenot trying to take his place. The entire offensive line was having problems with chemistry.

Actually, Minn held Caddy in check. He had 26 carries for 70 yards until his last run. The 70 yd TD was from circumstance more than good blocking or running. It was 3rd and 1 with like 1:20 left in the game. Minn had one more timeout and they were stacking the line in the hopes that they could get the stop and get the ball back. Caddy got past the 1st level and there was no one else to tackle him.

I think Rudi will have a good game, it just won't be as easy as last week. Perry should get more work than last week, because he does matchup better with there D-line.

We'll see - if anything, their secondary is their strength, so I see a steady diet of running and some swing/screen passes.

The question is - where's the two-back set I've been dreaming of?

The biggest part of this equation is that the Bengals O-line is vastly superior to Tampa's O-line. And if the the line plays like they should be able to, then the yards will be there. Sure Minny has a good d-line, but our o-line is just as good.

Chris Perry will have a good game, I expect to see the Bengals run wide on the Vikes to change up the looks. Also I wouldn't mind seeing the Bengals spread the Vikes out and run out of some 3/4 WR sets.

Chris Perry will be used on a limited basis against the Vikes. The whole gameplan going in to sunday will be to pound the football down the vikes throte. We should exploit there weakness by hitting there line backers. I also believe that we can exploit the Vikes vunerable secondary by passing to Chad Johnson who will dominate Fred Smoot. Again the key to success is RUDI RUDI RUDI!

Wow, the Vikings defensive strength is their DT's. I'm not sure we'll be effective at all running it down their throats. Where we could be effective is with Chris Perry running wide and short passes to the middle of the field.

Plus, this OL has not been good in the past at opening running lanes in the middle of the field when faced with mammoth DT's. We've had a real problem lining up and running it up the gut of the opposition when we've needed one or two yards.

The problem was the beginning of the year because of injuries and it wasn't the run game that stalled, it was pass protection that suffered enough to make a rookie QB force more mistakes.

Fontenot did an amazing job for the Bengals for a 3-game stretch after the opener but it wasn't enough to keep the Bengals from going 1-4.

After the New England game, it mattered little but Rudi still had his way w/ the Bills D w/o Braham.

The power running game w/ Rudi will be challenged today if the Bengals go up the gut w/ it. Their staple I play right w/ Rudi behind Steinbach pulling and JJ should get some breathing room for Rudi.

Still, this is the game where Perry should assert himself. Not as a runner in between the tackles (and God knows not picking up the blitz) but as a primary receiving threat out of the backfield or in the slot who stretches the defense horizontally so that the receivers can have more space between the LBs and safeties in the vertical game.

These particular matchups for this game will likely nudge the Bengals to give Perry a shot at bouncing a few runs off tackle. Also, look for the Bengals to allow the D-line to overpursue for a couple draw plays.

I'll project Perry at:

Rushing 7-30 yds

Receiving 6-94 yds, 1 TD

Of course it'll be tougher than last week, the Bengals didn't even play an NFL team. :P

I think the key is getting past that 1st level, which will be tough, but Rudi is capable of doing just that. He breaks blocks, and does not go down easy ever. So if any RB can go through the middle, I think it's a Rudi. I just hope that Marvin sticks with Rudi because he is a game breaker.

What do you mean "HOPE!?!" Do you see the word "Retard" stamped on Marvin's forehead?

The ONLY way the Bengals don't stick with Rudi is they let DontPushMe determine who starts and who doesn't. Not a likely thing to happen, don't you think? B)

Yo, DPM. I am glad to see that you switched to a photo of Chris Perry for your avatar and I must admit that he has exceded my expectations. But can you please quit trying to jam everyone with the Corey Dillon references in your signature. We all know you despise Rudi but CD hasn't played a game for the Bengals since he chucked his s**t into the stands in December 2003. If you want to pimp Perry, please go right ahead, but I think your act is getting old. It's 2005...time to move on.
