DontPushMe Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 CLEVELAND _ Running back Rudi Johnson won't start the Bengals' opener in Cleveland Sunday because of the violation of an unspecified team rule. Plus, rookie wide receiver Chris Henry is inactive despite a fine preseason with Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis opting to dress wide receivers Kelley Washington and rookie Tab Perry. Perry is earmarked to return kickoffs.Johnson, who started all 16 games last season, is coming off a Bengals' best rushing year of 1,454 yards, still figures to play heavily. Chris Perry makes his first pro start in his place. Also inactive are cornerbacks Rashad Bauman and Greg Brooks, defensive linemen Matthias Askew and Jonathan Fanene, linebacker Hannibal Navies, and guard-tackle Scott Kooistra. The Bengals could be expecting a smash-mouth game by dressing just three cornerbacks and eight offensive linemen instead of seven. Safeties Madieu Williams and Kevin Kaesviharn can also play corner.bengals.comIts official now Perry is starting today Quote
BengalsFan77 Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 i just read that, i wonder what he did. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Gee, great way start to the season. I assume it'll be a "Chad" situation like last year where he'll sit out the first series.Looks like Walter has beat out Henry thus far for that WR spot. Quote
membengal Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 gotta tell you DPM, it's stuff like your smiley face icon that pisses people off. this team is not better off for this.try rooting for the entire team, and not just the players you pleasure yourself to... Quote

Its not like Rudi wont play, but he will probly just be out the first series or something like that. Quote
bengalindian Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 I don't mind Chris starting, because he's definitely capable, I just wanna know what Rudi would have done to receive this punishment. It's not a good sign if it's going to occur again. Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Frankly, the bit about the untested Tab Perry returning kicks concerns me far more than who lugs the rock the first series. Quote

It's not a good sign if it's going to occur again. My guess from ML's press conference joke earlier is that he showed up late for some meeting(s) and ML is trying to make a point about "no I in team" or whatever. Quote

Bobcat Bengal Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Sep 11 Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals RB Rudi Johnson will not start Week 1 because he violated an unspecified team rule, a Bengals spokesman said this morning. RB Chris Perry will start, but Johnson could play the second snap and in the first possession. The violation is believed to be minor, such as being late for a meeting. Johnson is habitually the last player to get onto the field for practice or into meeting rooms. Quote
BengalsFan77 Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Chris Mortensen just reported on countdown, that Rudi was benched for being late to a team meeting this week. Quote
WhoDey93285 Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Chris Mortenson just confirmed he was late to a team meeting, but Rudi will still be the featured running back today. He'll probably take off one series. Quote
7/11 Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 i'm real surprised about henry not dressing. Quote
schweinhart Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Perry starting....Sounds to me like they may line up 5 receivers on the 1st play like they did last year IIRC. If they do, CP will have to hit somebody quick, but Perry on these LBs is an advantage.I wouldn't worry about the other Perry as a KR. They'll proly have him and Watson deep and let Watson block ahead of him. Perry is a skilled KR as long as can hold onto the ball when he gets smacked.I'm surprised Henry is inactive. This looked like a good op for him to get some snaps. Quote
Kazkal Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 anyone know why henry is inactive? Quote
DontPushMe Posted September 11, 2005 Author Report Posted September 11, 2005 anyone know why henry is inactive? Who would you of made inactive to have henry play?Washington? No way, Washington is a better player at this point.Walter or Perry? No, Henry doesnt play special teams like these 2.The only chance Henry has at making it active this year is if we go 6 WRs, or someone else steps up on special teams to make deactivating Perry or Walter possible. Green 66 Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 I may be alone in this but I kinda like this move shows that the bengals are a disciplined team that will make hard decisions with good players. Still being said i would hate to think something like this would cost us anything in the game today.Mike GreenWaynesville Ohio Quote

DontPushMe Posted September 11, 2005 Author Report Posted September 11, 2005 Rudi Johnson had a great game, I expected it, he plays well vs the Browns. If you think im upset in any way over this game you are crazy, a win is a win, i dont care who plays as long as we win, in my opinion Perry starting and getting most of the carries would give us a better chance to win, but if we win in other ways im happy also. Also, I never said Perry would be getting all of the carries in this game, or anything like that, I just said he got the start. Quote
