bengalboomer7
Why does this happen everytime we don't get someone. I've said it time and time again that it is proven that you build a team through the draft. How many Super Bowls do the redskins have? 0. How many big name free agents do the Pats sign every year? Not getting a FA is not the end of the world.Take Spain's advice. drink a little more
StripesNTn
And of these players Simon MAY be the first that we were better off not getting. Sapp was a bust , Sharper has lost a step. Truly Our DTs and Dline has been the best unit as far as consistency in the preseason. This team is being built so the linebackers are the key to the defense. We have lots of young talent, and many of these that got experience last year as rookies are gonna be that much better. Thurman is gonna be a monster in the middle, which will help that Dline . Pollack, well on that we gotta see. Landon is quality young backer, destined for Simmons spot i would think. Even our recent acquisition Navies, is nothing if not versatile and a good tackler. The defense will be improved. I may be one of the few, but i think we are better off without Simon.

cover2
Yea! I think it's better Mike keep his money. Maybe he can spend it next year or the year after that. Gee from this morning article Marvin had so many bad things to say about Corey. Not!When you move at glacier speed you lose.
Spain
Ok maybe if we made it clearer! Would you rather have simon and let Levi, Willie, and smith walk . We need to tie some guys up! However Indy looks scarey
DC_Bengals_Fan
Ok maybe if we made it clearer! Would you rather have simon and let Levi, Willie, and smith walk . We need to tie some guys up! However Indy looks scarey I want to see how the money is distributed before I comment on the wisdom of not signing him. But I also want to see Mikey do something with the $6M in cap space besides pocketing it. Extra cap space this year doesn't help re-sign anyone unless they restructure some deals soon. Also, simon doesn't cost as much as all three of those guys. I do think they should let Willie walk if he wants a long term deal though, knees don't come back after that microfracture surgery.
BengalszoneBilly
Manning is that good...So what happens to all that "goodness" when he plays the Patriots? It's nowhere to be found, EVER! He's an over-rated Tennessee hick that has taken advantage of the NFL's new rules on coverage against lesser teams. That's it. I'll take Tom Brady anyday over him.Oh, and to stay on topic, Simon will improve Indy's defense. (No duh, huh?) First of all I did stay on topic if you read my post correctly.. What did you fail to understand about it?? Maybe I can enlighten you ....So your opinion of the good people of Tennessee is that of hicks huh? Do you allways generalize people in such ways?As for Manning ...all Qb's have taken advantage of the new rules.. he's just done it better than most...All QB's in the AFC have had their problems against the Pats...I just read an article about this ...As for Brady..very good QB and Ill not get into a pissing contest with you about who is better.. Football is a team sport..not just a QB can win you championships. Whoa, Walshfan. I was keeping my post on topic, yours never was off. As far as people from Tennessee, they're not all hicks. Just him. Skyline lives in Tennessee and he's no hick!
Jonboat
Looks to me the Colts showed him the $$, they've been contenders for several years but haven't been able to over the hump obviously they think Simon can do that for them, it may hurt them in the long run but they want to win now! I think the Bengals want to build for the future & have shown that by signing our own key players & adding thru the draft & are willing to get free agents but not at the expense of the future. What I think it boils down to is we've got to prove we're a winning team, 8-8 is not a winning record, & then the big name FA will want to come. When we prove to be a legit SB contender , as the Colts are, then you break the bank & go after the FA who you think will get you over the top. I thought even before Simon was released that we could make a playoff run with who we had & I still do. It'll be interesting though to see what they do with the $ we have under the cap & the next round of cuts around the corner, there's going to be decent players available. Whur CHad At?
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted: Sep 1 2005, 09:56 AMÂ Wah Wah Wah... Change your diaper baby. Yeah, we made a HUGE mistake not signing Sapp, who was ever so effective for the Raiders last season. 30 tackles, 12 assists and a wopping 2.5 sacks. We blew it. Instead of signing the overweight, ego-inflated, over the hill tackle, we went with our guys, including Langston Moore, who you seem to ignore, who had 22 tackles, 9 assists, and 1 sack. Oh, and he split time with a lot of guys last year, and wasn't a full time starter like Sapp. HUGE mistake in not wasting money on Sapp. You are so smart it hurts.Ok retard, the reason Sapp sucked last year becuase he played LDE. That was something sort of new to him. This year he will be in the 4-3 systen and he will be in the middle again. Trust me moron, you prob. never played football before. Going from the middle to the end is a change. I played DT in High school before switching my Junior year to DE. It is different.

I mean he is an All-Pro, and we have what how many...0. He has been to the Pro Bowl, numerous times...no one on our D Line has been there yet. scott91575
Wow, you guys have to realize that the Colts are in a different position than the Bengals. They are clearly in a position to play for this year and maybe next for a Super Bowl . If Indy begins to falter they cut Simon and say they gave it a great chance. The Bengals are not in that position. Clearly Indy has put a full out press for Corey. No way any team does this contract but Indy. Does anybody that is mad about this think that the Bengals should out do this contract? No way! The Bengals are not a DT away from a SB. Yet some could argue the Colts are. After hearing the contract the Bengals made the right choice in not taking him. After all that, I think they should have taken Wilfork or Kevin Jones the draft before. That is a debate, but this was easily the right call after hearing the terms. The Bengals are not in the position to offer this kind of contract even if backloaded. The top teams have the luxury of offering top guys huge backloaded contracts since they can say pick him up now and we'll deal with the contract later. The Bengals can't afford that thinking. They need to build a solid team for the future. BTW...name the last SB champs in the salary cap era that did this and it worked out.Mark my words, in 3 years Indy will be feeling the pain of this contract. They will be in contract hell just like the Niners. This is not the Bengals of old. They are growing, if only slower than you like. There are mistakes, but no reason to jump on a guy for 6 mil a year and a backloaded contract when you are more than a year away.

It's not a question of whether he's in better shape than anyone here. Most of us are beer drinkin, crotch scratching Monday Morning QBs who are hardly in shape to play FLAG Football. But then again, I'm betting Sapp doesn't have the brainpower to do MY job either. What matters is that Warren Sapp is out of shape compared to the people he is playing with and against. You give him an excuse of changing positions. Who cares. Yes, it's a change, but in your own words, He's an all pro. He should be able to handle change. David Pollack is being asked to go from a down lineman to a stanind linebacker. He seems to be getting it. Sapp didn't.We are better off without these guys, our young guys are just as good and have more upside. Besides, we aren't in the business of paying for a name.
