NJ29
Okay, I figured that Anthony Mitchell would get the starting strong safety job, but now Kaesviharn is listed as the starter. A few questions:Will H.D. Jones ever crack the lineup? Can Mitchell win the job?Can Ohalete climb the ladder?

Sportsdoc
Jones..... not a starter this year... he seems like Marquand Manuel but with less experience.........Who signed Dex Reid?Ohateley.... may start by week 1 but on the bench by week 4K2 does not seem like a strong safety...........maybe ML will Madieu SS (if he heals) and leave K2 at FS
Bengal Joe
I hope Ohalete starts. Maybe I should give Kaesveharn a chance but I just don't have much confidence in him. He seems like he's more fit as a career backup and special teamer. I guess he's doing something right considering he's one of the few guys left from the pre-Marvin era. Stripes
Olahete should start week one. He's played with Marvin before (in Washington) and I'm betting Marvin's had his eye on him, waiting for Arizona to dump him.

DC_Bengals_Fan
Not taking a safety in the first day of the draft may cost the Bengals the playoffs. SS is a disaster. I'm praying Ohalte is pretty damned good.
Jonboat
I think Olahete will start against the Browns or @ least as soon as they think he's got a good feel for the D. KK was pencilled in as a starter when Herring got injured but ML said a couple of weeks ago that the list of starters is just a piece of paper for you media guys, since it's still preseason I'm sure that still applies. I'm anxious to see Olahete this week, from what everyone saying he's a big SS & solid vs. the run & imo our biggest weakness for years has been stopping the run so we can use as many sure tacklers as we can get ! GO BENGALS!!! Jonboat
staticx682000
I say use Olahete on running downs and kk on passing.Neither one is very good on passing downs but kk seems a little better....
schweinhart
As long as ML is hellbent on interchangeable safeties, they'd better have safeties who can bring some pop vs. run. Ohalete is a headhunter who'll coldcock runners better than K2 and fight off blocks near the line and second level much, much better.Coverage wise, I watched a WR go down over the middle rather than take a full lick from Ohalete a couple days ago in a pre-season game. He'll make his share of WRs sprout alligator arms, so long as he can be in position to rock their worlds. But he's still got to show ML he can swing between SS and FS before he gets the starting nod. He's still got to compete just to make the team in the first place, so it's pretty much up to Ohalete IMO.
DontTakeAkili
Anyone who follows college football closely has probably heard of Jammal Brimmer, the rookie S from UNLV. He was projected as a first rounder a few years ago, but he was just cut by Seattle. I know there is a reason he got cut, but it doesn't hurt that Seattle might have the best S combo in the league. I don't know if this guy has anything to offer or if the Bengals are interested, but he is a guy people might want to keep an eye on. membengal
Ohalete. The Bengals' prospects this season got brigher with his availability and, sad to say, Herring's injury. Herring was scaring me to death back there at Safety. And that was before the great Owens-non-cover fiasco 2005.
thefrazz
I'm shocked that K2 is listed as starter. I like K2 just for the fact he works his arse off and has heart...but he cannot shed blocks! He's a good back up to have, and has filled the role of back-up time and time again without a complaint from me. But him as a starting SS? Pawleeze!Oh well...maybe he has practiced better this year then he did last year. Watching TJ catch balls that he would have dropped 2 years ago changed my mindset on things. People can learn new tricks in the offseason.2 years ago, I would have taken Danny Farmer over TJ any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Now that just seems like a stupid remark *shrug*

I'm praying Ohalte is pretty damned good. God forbid we take David Pollack to replace Kevin Hardy in round one, the most talented linebacker in the draft in round 2, and a talented wide out in round three. What were we thinking not drafting one of the safeties who NOONE EVEN BOTHERED TO DRAFT on day one. Did you look at the draft this year? Who would you have had us draft at the safety position and when? It was a weak draft for safety. So, we didn't take one.

Only time will tell. Personally I like what we did.
WorldBFree
At one point, Brimmer was the top Safety prospect in the nation, but chose to go back to school. The national televised game vs. Tennessee featured Brimmer blowing some coverage and missing a few tackles and all of a sudden he's undrafted and apparrently unwanted.Ohalate and KK should split time, giving 34 the coverage assignments on passing downs. Ohalate can sit in the box on running downs. Both are going to get targeted by the opponent, so Marvin has to be creative and move Madieu around to keep teams guessing.Reggie Myles was also mentioned earlier in the offseason. I love his speed and attitude. Was #37 a bust at safety?

Only time will tell. Personally I like what we did.For one thing, depth at safety wasn't that bad - there were guys who went in the second through fourth rounds who could probably help right now. And Davis might have been worth trading up for too. It's not so much that he's better than Pollack, it's that Davis would keep KK, Herring, and Mitchell off the field. Although Herring will be keeping himself off the field for a while. Bottom line is we really need Oahalete to pan out, because KK and Mitchell aren't going to get it done - did you watch the Redskins and Eagles games?I mean, really, I don't want to punt this season because of a safety, but that position is outrageously weak right now. bengalboomer7
What ever happened to the Myles experiment at safety. I haven't heard anything about it since the beginning of preseason and haven't got to watch a lot of the preseason games. has he even seen any action at safety?
