semiotter
Hey guys and gals I was checking out the schedule and man I honestly think we have a very good chance to do this.. 1st at the BROWNS 2nd home vars. MINN. 3RD at Da Bears 4THE Home vars. Houston 5THE at Jacksonville Jags. 6THE at Tennessee So what you think, am I crazy to think this is possible. Or am I just being a HOMER??? HoosierCat
Nah, you aren't crazy. They could do it. Browns, Bears and Titans are certainly very winnable games. Houston scares me a bit only because they're due to beat us, but that's another winnable game. Jax...hard to say, I think they could go either way this season. The Vikings are the big challenge, they're gonna be a tough team this season.6-0 is possible. IMHO, anything less than 4-2 is unacceptable (and probably fatal to any playoff hopes). cincyhokie
There's a chance.I see 4-2 looking alot more realistic. I'll be convinced that this team can dominate from the start when I see it (ala 1988 and 7-0).The 2 games that have me worried are the Texans game and the Jags at Jacksonville. It's all in the play of the defense, like last year the defense stepped it up a bit and the team took off...save the Cleveland game (58-48). If the defense stops the run and let's the offense control the clock with Rudi and the gang, we have a good shot at 5-1, 6-0.
semiotter
Yea the MINN. game got me worried to. But it is a home game, thats a plus!!!

jditty47
4 of first 6 had under 500 records last year. we better get off to a fast start this year. if not we might never get over the hump...

Exactly what I was thinking! Anything less than 4-2 is unacceptable. I say 5-1, we split Jacksonville/Minnesota, and win the rest.
Spain
Im with The King willy, cleveland could shock us! Division foes are deadly at home!

Smith is my role model....right above Michael Irvin. Actually, he is one of my favorite analysts. He's a little more opinionated and louder than most...that's why I like him.Plus I knew it would get on someone's nerves eventually.
thepudgester
To say anything less than 4-2 is unacceptable is well a little off. I'd draw the line at 3-3. You have to take into consideration we have a somewhat young, inexperienced defense, that on top of lack of elite personnel. Let me give you my predictions.@. Cleveland W 34-21vs. Minnesota L 20-27@. Chicago W 24-13vs. Houston W 30-24@. Jacksonville W 23-17@. Tennessee W 27-24So in conclusion, I think 5-1 is a very realistic record, yet I would not be upset at all with 4-2, nor would I be outraged by 3-3. Any less however, we may have to pack up our playoff hopes for next year.
Ickey44
Looking at those scores, it looks like you think our defense is gonna suck.
HoosierCat
To say anything less than 4-2 is unacceptable is well a little off. Not if you go look at the remaining 10 games it isn't. The Bengals' sked this season is more frontloaded than Pamela Anderson. With multiple games against Pitt and Baltimore, plus tilts against the likes of KC, Indy, and the Favres ahead, they simply cannot afford to drop winnable contests early. I agree: 5-1 is actually realistic...but if they go 3-3 look for an 8-8 finish.
CBin2k7
All 6 of those games scare me. Until the Bengals have a playoff run, I will not count any games as a W. But most obvious is the season opener. I think if the Bengals lose to the Browns in week one, it could be a borderline disaster.
membengal
I hate to call an opening loss a disaster, so I won't.But, tell you what, I am gonna enjoy the middle part of September a whole lot more if they are 1-0 for a change. I really hope they come out in that game and step on Cleveland early and take the crowd out of it from the get-go. That would make me feel a lot better as I watch that one unfold.1-0 going into a home opener against Minny would be sweet. PB will be off the hook loud should that occur.Just really leery of the opening game against a rival on the road with a new coach etc. Lot's of emotion in that one. Makes it hard to analyze in the usual ways.

You're right, but if we can't beat Cleveland at home this year, maybe we never will. New coach, with a downright bad team. he's even admitted that he doesn't have good talent. No TE. Bad QB. Relying on a rookie WR who missed a lot of camp. This all adds up to a very winnable game. Crennel has the team going in the right direction, but even Marvin got blown out in his first game. I expect Cleveland to be no different. We are also their division rivals.Minnesota should be tough, but it's at home... and the Bengals played well on prime time last year, so while 6-0 can be easy to explain on paper... we can't be paper champions anymore. We have to prove it on the field... it's time.
Stripes
Everytime I look at the schedule it looks tougher. Cleveland, Minny, Houston, Tennessee, and Jacksonville, Chicago are all games that can't be taken for granted. I hope for 4-2 or better, and I do think it will go that way, but who knows. Kazkal
4-2 or better IMOI think the only game we're a disadvantage talent wise is Vikings but we need our fans to step up and show em why home field is a advantage

ANY team COULD start 6-0, and I hope the Bengals do, but in reality I don't think they will.I think they will beat Cleveland and Chicago for sure. Jacksonville on the road will be a rough one, but if Fred Taylor is out, we got a chance. Tennessee always seems to find a way to beat us, I have a bad feeling about that one. Our two home games scare the crap out of me, the Vikings and Texans. Texans have a super-powered Offense and Minnesota could be very tough. I see 3-3 in the first six for sure, probably 4-2 if things go well and Palmer doesn't start every game off trying to force a downfield throw to Chad. walzav29
Don't get suckered by the Vikings. It is the typical situation where a team signs a bunch of free-agents and everyone thinks they will just gel. It takes time. That being said it is going to be all about game 1. If they lose it's going to be like "here we go again". MArvin is 5-3 at home each season. I think they'll whip the Vikings, but lose to Jax. 5-1 would be sweet. walshfan
Im not making predictions on their record and certainly not scores..cleveland at their place is a big one a must one.....minnesota at home is going to be rough.. Culpepper will be hard to handlechicago is a game we should win even in chicago..they arent very good, houston at home is a blessing --up and coming team...dangerous!jax at their park is going to be very hard very hard indeed..tennessee looks to be a game we should... we should have last year too remember? ArmyBengal
Nobody on this board wants to see a loss period, but I can also see a couple during this span. If Minn puts it together quickly, they will be tough, I'm glad we caught them early on. Jacksonville on the road will be tough and so will the Texans game. 4-2 or 3-3 worst case. The only game during this time that would just PISS ME OFF by losing, would be the opener against Cleveland, but they have nothing to lose (Seeing as everyone expects them to suck), they are a division rival (Always play well against us), and it is their home opener as well as season opener. Worried about this one...Please God don't let the team get the big head with all the media attention and overlook a s**trag team like Cleveland and get beat !!! Amen...WHODEY !!!
